We were enjoying drinking around the world and stopped at Hops & Barley to have a drink. Quick lines, nice cold beer choices.

Want to spend 3 hours on a guided stroll down Park Ave stopping in restaurants, shops and learning…read moreabout some history? Check this out! Nice for locals and visitors. Having seen a lot of post cards for this event around Park Ave, we decided to give it a try this past weekend. We went with the Saturday tour and unfortunately, we were interrupted with some rain during our tour so we didn't get the full history and stroll that usually is part of it. Bummed but we didn't let it stop us from having a good time. Reid was our guide for the day and also a founder of this Food Tour. He was fun and very lighthearted throughout our experience. I do feel that since there was rain we missed most of what the tour was trying to accomplish, which was to give us a history lesson as well. I do have to say, I didn't learn much but since we were scurrying to each location, I know it was difficult. They do warn you of the rain, I mean, hello! It's Florida! So they recommend bringing an umbrella! Do yourself a favor and do that if there is more than 30% chance! You will be glad you did. For a $47 price tag, check out the stops we headed to and keep in mind, they are the same stops for each tour but they will be adding a new tour of the other end of Park Ave in the next few months. This is a tour of 6 businesses which consist of: Prato Ancient Olive The Spice & Tea Exchange Orchid Thai Cuisine Kilwin's Sassafras Sweet Shoppe Prato I have been various times so I already knew it was going to be a great kick-off to the tour. When you booked, there were an option of Wine or Beer. I went for the wine and a red wine was waiting as we were seated at the table. We tried 2 of their pizzas and had their house bread as well. It was lovely as you really can't have a bad experience in Prato. However, I think this would have been a great opportunity for someone from Prato to chat about their business but Reid did a pretty good rundown. Ancient Olive By far, Ancient Olive took the cake for being the highlight of the tour. WOW! Not only does this shop rock in it's own right, they know how to host a tour of people who love food and want a taste of local. We had someone from Ancient Olive walk us through an Olive Oil & Balsamic tasting, think Wine tasting but with Olive Oil & Balsamic. They also had some tapenade and a goat cheese spread with balsamic and almonds to snack on. They carry a local all-natural beverage mixer as well, Bungalow23 and we had the Prickly Pear. Just when we thought we were already in heaven, another door opened: Ice Cream with Olive Oil and salt... OMGGGGG... I could have stopped the tour here and taken a bath in this. You are not supposed to shop on this tour but it was raining and I spent almost $70 here. Such a great stop. The Spice & Tea Exchange They have so many teas, salts, spices and peppers than you could ever imagine. The best part is they have kick-a recipes to use and we tasted two of them on this stop. Beer cheese dip and an orzo pasta. The pasta was delicious! We also had one of their cold brew teas. Lovely stop. I did feel a little rushed from here on out but that may have been because the rain kept us at the 2nd stop for a long time. Orchid Thai Cuisine I have been here and unfortunately, everything we tasted, chicken satay and their appetizer platter was everything I have had here before. Didn't get much of a new experience here and didn't really learn anything about the business except they have been there for 6 years. Kilwin's My least fav stop on the tour. Not sure why we went with Kilwin's since it's not local. When we arrive, we really didn't learn anything about the business and no one from there interacted with us. We had a taste of the Winter Park Mud, vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips and carmel. It was good but the ice cream wasn't very smooth, it was more crystalized. I am not into fudge so I gave mine away. It was the turtle fudge. Sassafras Sweet Shoppe I adore this store so I was excited to see this on the stop. However, we only spent about 2 minutes in here and grabbed cotton candy and went and ate it under an awning outside and were sent on our way. A very abrupt ending but it was still raining out so I guess we couldn't expect too much. Overall, wasn't blown away but I did it with 2 friends and the others that were on the tour were fun as well. It was a lovely way to spend the afternoon even if the stops and content didn't blow me away.

Good food, new friends, perfect weather. What more could you want on a Saturday afternoon?…read more We had a great tour of Winter Park with Kiel. He's very knowledgable about the area and locations where we made stops. We also had great service at each of our stops, as Kiel is on a first name basis with everyone on Park Ave. I highly recommend this tour for out of town guests or if you'd just like to get to know your neighborhood a little bit better.

It was a great day to experience Inverness, Florida! What a beautiful, small town. We also spent time in the Artisans Art Gallery (most of us went back to either of the stops after the tour because we had seen something to purchase). However, the highlight was the four restaurants on the tour where we were treated to such incredible food pairings. Trust me when I say, no one left hungry! We were treated to unique American dishes, BBQ, seafood, and home made doughnuts and ice cream. It was a fantastic time and other than it being hot we had such a blast! We got to stop at 3 different bars which allows us to support local businesses and try new places, which we loved! You can also bring your own alcohol that is stored in a cooler but they have to be canned and unopened. The max capacity I believe is 15 people and there are 4 seats on board that don't have pedals so if you have limitations or just don't want to pedal, there are places for you to sit! We were excited to learn about the history of Ybor City as well as its blended culture and the amazing food. We were not disappointed. Kristie's knowledge of the city and its history is unsurpassed. This could have been a historical tour instead of a foodie tour. It is that in depth. Now the food. I hope you brought your appetite. We started at Café Quiquiriqui with the local staple - the Cuban sandwich. The pressed Cuban bread was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. The layers of mustard, pickles, cheese, pulled pork, ham and salami were perfect. Then we moved to The Bricks for The Rooster - a rice bowl with shredded chicken, tomato, pickled red onion, roasted red pepper and mixed greens served over rice with a cilantro lime aioli. Delicious! Fresh and crisp with flavors that pop! We then started a big portion of the history tour. We visited José Martí Park (Isla de Cuba) - a park that is actually Cuban soil inside of the United States. Amazing history at this location. From there, we moved to the cigar factory district and visited the museum quality displays inside the lobby of the Scientology building. We made our way to the Ybor City Visitors Center where we watched a brief video on the history the city and picked up a few souvenirs. We then headed past the historic casitas near Centennial Park and the Italian Club. Next was the German influence food stop - Barrio Tacos. What? A taco restaurant? We had a full sized taco called "Das Taco". It is a combo of shredded chicken, chorizo sausage, fried onion crisps, a homemade cabbage/brussels sprout slaw with a delectable horseradish sauce. German influence all over this dish. This taste treat is only available on this tour. You can't order it off their menu. Plus, we had fresh corn chips and their terrific salsa. We finished our tour at Nicahabana Cigars for a cup of Café Con Leche in some of the most comfortable chairs in Tampa and a sweet treat from New York New York Pizza - fresh zeppoles with powdered sugar. All throughout the tour, we got snippets of the local history and local folklore. We laughed and took tons of photos. This was seriously one of the best food/history tours we have ever been on. Bring your walking shoes, stay hydrated and have a blast. There may be other tours in Ybor City but don't waste your time on those. Pick The Original Ybor City Food Tour. You won't be sorry!

The tour met in the chamber of commerce building (which was beautiful) and left just after 10:45am. The tour consisted of 7 different stops, but only 5 of them served some type of food. We tried samples such as beef patties, pot stickers, pastries, soda, and more. As locals who love the area, we've tried most of the top spots on park avenue. None of what we would consider "top spots" were visited. The tour guides said they tried to find spots that we may not know about, and they did just that, but it didn't seem very intentional. We felt as if they didn't spend much time hand picking the perfect places to stop. I'll dig into that in the next section. One of the places we stopped was Fresh and Co, which is a chain. We couldn't believe the tour stopped here. Another stop was a local candy and soda shop, which offered taffy samples, but didn't really belong on a food tour. Blu served a pot sticker, which was disappointing since it's a seafood restaurant. Our first stop was at the local farmers market, which seemed a bit odd. We also didn't like that the guides never know what the locations are going to serve us. It's random. If you're hoping to get full, don't plan on it. Most of the samples are TRUE sample sizes. We went on a food tour in the fall with another local company, and were so full by the 3rd stop that we could only eat a bite at the fourth. That's how it should be at a food tour. It was nice learning some history about the area of WP, but we wouldn't recommend this tour. A plus is that you get 10% off the day of tour at any of the stops. We enjoyed going back and using this at the Ancient Olive Store. On the other hand, we've both been on the scenic boat tour, which is amazing.

Not only was it the perfect #alldaydate for us it was also so educational. Jerald was so fired up and knowledgeable about all things Disney it blew our minds. He was the real star of the show in our mind's eye. It was as if Walt himself was our tour guide. We started at Epcot behind the scenes before World Showcase opened. We went during the flower and garden show so all the landscapers were manicuring the flower models. He told us all the tricks they use how they make building focal points in each of the parks. Then we went behind the scenes to see how the American Experience show works. From there we went and saw the Shops at Disney, Laundry, Costume Design/manufacturing/ storage. Lunch at Whispering Cafe was excellent. Last stop was a tour of Magic Kingdom. The grand finale was us walking down the Main Street parade route just in front of the parade. We felt like part of the show and VIPs. They let us stay and watch the whole Festival of Fantasy parade which was so entirely awesome appreciating what we had just scene behind the scenes to make it all happen. Thank you Disney Adventure for an unforgettable experience. BTW, for all the parents of little ones out there...our kids got their very own "Mary Poppins of a nanny for the day. Our tour was given by cast members (employees) of the Disney Institute. Shout out to Monica and Stu! These are the people who act as ambassadors for the "Disney Way" of doing things for corporate team building visits. They are enthusiastic ( either that or darn good actors) about Disney and are very knowledgeable about pretty much all things pertaining to the house that the mouse built. Ever wondered about the supposed tunnels under the Magic Kingdom? You will find out on this tour. Ever wanted to see how Disney maintains all the attractions? This tour is for you. From costumes, landscaping, trash collection, trading pins, parades, transportation, maintenance, entertainment, if you can think of it, this tour will do everything short of giving out proprietary information to answer your questions. The tour is pretty much all day with lunch provided. If you are a picture buff, this tour is not for you. As Stu put it, you are only allowed to take pictures if you see babies in strollers. Every thing is referred to being onstage or backstage. Taking pictures backstage was strictly prohibited except for the Disney tree farm and nursery. Seeing the Animal Kingdom parade in its storage house was really neat. The tour is pricey. This experience is for the person who has done pretty much all that Disney has to offer as a guest (if that is possible). You have to be sixteen to attend so it's a nice adult only day on the properties. Now here is some very minor downsides to the tour. One. Disney World resort is so expansive that Disney could easily make this an 8 hour 5 day tour. They have tried their best to give a broad overview that is entertaining but does not wear you out. For someone like me that wants to know all the nuts and bolts of very specific aspects of how Disney works, you will walk away at times wanting more. Two. As I said earlier, the tour is pricey even with lunch thrown in. When it ends around three in the afternoon, I wanted to go straight into Epcot or Magic Kingdom and look for some of the things I learned about. It would be nice if they gave you a complimentary admission into one of the parks that would not burn a day off of the tickets you probably already own for the time you are going to be on the properties. Three. I really wanted to spend more time in the mothership park Magic Kingdom, but each of the four parks is given fairly even time. Four. The meal was at the Wilderness Lodge. It was a good meal, but serving heavy setting wet ribs is not a very good choice for a tour that involved a lot of walking and standing. It was fairly cool in October, but eating a meal of ribs in the summer would have been miserable. Finally, you really don't know the agenda for the day until you get there. From what Monica told me, Disney tries to change up the tour from time to time, but since it is pretty pricey, I don't know if I would roll the dice and risk taking the same tour again. There is so much to see I would want a new experience. Again, these are minor downsides and are only ways Disney could enhance the experience. Don't let this list of five insignificant quirks change your mind. The tour is worth it. This is a really good time and a break from the normal Disney experience. Give it a try.
