I took my 7 year old male boxer here on Wednesday , July 26th 2023 for lameness in his left back…read moreleg and swollen lymph nodes. I explained to this vet that my boxer was experiencing leg issues for 2 months in different limbs and getting slightly more lethargic over time. The vet took his temperature, which was normal. He then felt him over quickly , and sent us off with pain medication and an antibiotic. I asked if he would be doing blood work, or any other testing for the lymph to confirm it's an infection or what it could be and he said "no could be mild infection or something else that the meds would clear up", since he wasn't showing any other symptoms. I asked but what could cause this swelling? He said "hard to tell, but something these things just happen but work themselves out". I asked if we should do X-rays or MRI of his leg. He said "no I would not suggest that at this point, probably just sore muscle that will work itself out with pain meds, not worth the money and effort at this point"... We were there for about 15 minutes including check in and check out. I could feel something wasn't right so I called for a second opinion to another vet Saturday July 29th 2023 and they suggested I take him immediately to ER vet and ask for a lymph node culture and MRI. I took him that day to the ER in Indianapolis. They did a culture of the lymph nodes and X-ray. The X-ray showed no break, but they suspected a serious tear. The culture came back Wednesday, August 2nd 2023 as blastomycosis dermatitis - a very time sensitive, life threatening fungal infection ! We took him in that day back to Indianapolis. Serious infections only have a survival rate of 50%. Some dogs lose eyesight and have eyes amputated. It attacks bones. It attacks the skin. It is a living organism that is simply trying to survive by eating your pet....My boxer is under 24/7 care right now for this serious fungal infection that SHOULD HAVE and COULD HAVE been caught earlier if this vet did not act so lazy and careless in his "diagnosis" - and I say diagnosis very loosely as he did zero testing to really even diagnose my baby. Thank God I am a watchful advocate and had the brains to seek a second opinion. My family and I are now emotionally prepared for this battle as we go through the dangerous treatment of killing the fungus. Fungal die-off can cause extreme detox distress. Please pray for my boxer, Ziggy is his name. Send positive thoughts of strength , comfort, healing, a calming spirit surrounding him (and us), and full recovery.

When I brought in my puppy with diarrhea, the vet gave her medicine he had made but did not check…read moreher for a parasite. She did not improve. I took her to Dr. Jack Chaille at Best Friends Veterinary Clinic, and he recognized right away that the problem was probably a parasite. He tested her, determined which type it was, and prescribed 2 medicines. In one day's time, she was doing better. After she finishes her medicine, Dr. Chaille will test her again to make sure the parasite is gone. If the vet at Eastside had been more thorough, she'd be better by now.

This vet and his staff normally one day per month, hold a clinic inside Rural King in Shelbyville…read moreto give locals an opportunity to have their pets vaccinated at a discounted rate. I have went there with my mother and her Shih Tzu for shots. The staff is gives you a clip board and some paperwork to fill out, just like at a human doctor's office, ha, then you may wait about 15 minutes for your turn as it can get quite busy. They then go over a few things about your dog to verify the correct treatment or regiment of shots to administer. And about 5 or 10 minutes later you're done and on your way out the door with your dog, a metal rabies dog tag (if that was a needed shot) and paperwork stating it has been vaccinated. The cost for just a rabies shot is about $25, and for multiple shots, depending on the pets needs, it may go as high as about $60. So this is a bit less expensive than going to the vet's office, and more convenient for some. Appointments are not necessary when going to the one day clinic. It's first come, first served. His office in Waldron about 15 minutes away is right downtown across from the restaurant and near the grocery store. Easy to find in this tiny town, as those are the 2 main busiest businesses in town, ha.
