British Columbia (BC) has some great wines a couple hours North East of Hope in the Okanagan Valley. If in BC, i suggest experiencing the local terroir. The prices for wine (in BC) are more than in the states, aren't that bad, and great considering the exchange rate. Customer service has been pretty good to. i asked about a wine i had while in South Africa & heard had been for sake some place in BC. The staff took the time to look it up in the BC (i assume provincial government database). They confirmed it had been sold in the province, but not in stock any where. A sad result, but atleast i definitively knew.

A good location for those lodging anywhere within downtown Hope -- and for us, so convenient, just a short walk of a few feet from where we stay! Though small, it carries good selections of the standard beer and other liquor products, along with decent selections of some of the more craft products, and such. And the service we've received has always been very friendly. and helpful. Another 'big plus' daughter and I have found while shopping there - is meeting/visiting some friendly, local residents of the city!! It's a local store, conveniently-located, and for us, has been a fun place to catch some spirits when in Hope.

The other restaurants couldn't even offer GF, so we skipped them, but we wandered here for a drink. We were pleasantly surprised by the staff, who were so friendly, a large selection of drinks, and a menu that our waitress was able to walk through for gluten free options. Yay. It is a traditional hotel seating area. It's loud, it's fairly unorganized, and it's busy so you wait a while. The chairs aren't all that comfy. But the drinks make up for it and like I said, gluten free options were key for me. The food is traditional pub fare mostly, with a few full size options. They are fairly greasy and cooked at the restaurant next door, so the poor waitress has to go pick them up and carry them over in big covered platters. They hit the spot though and sometimes that's all it takes.

My aunt and mom both got steaks and I just got garlic butter prawns because I knew I was going to end up on food clean-up duty. The garlic butter prawns with ciabatta garlic bread was absolutely delectable!! I honestly wasn't expecting such good food in a hotel restaurant. They were slathered in butter (lol), and it was seasoned perfectly. I wish there was more bread to go with it though. The steaks were cooked perfectly medium rare for my soft mouth and were covered in a pool of a delicious sauce reduction. The bed of mashed potatoes were perfectly smooth and went well with the steak. The vegetables were well-cooked, but pretty plain (the norm for western restaurants). There was a good variety of vegetables though, which I enjoyed a lot! Unfortunately, I don't see the steak on their most recent online menu anymore. It definitely needs to be brought back! Service was impeccable, we were well taken care of by our server. Ambience is typical hotel restaurant vibes--casual-fancy.

It has quite a large selection of beer, wine, and liquor. The prices are pretty good and the usually always have sales through out the year. I also appreciate the selection of Craft Beer in stock. They have just about every flavour of Stanley Park which is my favourite beer. The store is fairly new. The store has a lot of natural light and is always clean. The employees do a great job to help answer questions if a customer has any and they always have suggestions to help narrow down choices. The store isn't usually super busy which means you can get in and out pretty quickly especially if you have time deadlines to meet. I will continue to use Whatcom Wine & Spirits anytime i visit Abbotsford.

Not because I'm an alcoholic, well, not -just- because I'm an alcoholic; many of the gifts I buy and give are alcoholic in nature. The store is large and well laid out, I had no difficulty finding the various sections, and the organization seemed intuitive. The owner was friendly, and talked me through some of the more esoteric liqueurs. The fact that I was unfamiliar with a number of his products surprised and delighted me. I am a fan of new and novel tastes, and it's not too often that I run into something I haven't seen before within the confines of the Valley. The one product that I was looking for that he did not carry was Strega. Hopefully this is remedied sometime soon. I can't recall if Galliano was on the shelf either. It's just a personal preference, but I like to see a nice selection of Italian liqueurs when I browse. The prices were reasonable, essentially on par with the rest of the city. It's on the east side of Abbotsford, so if you're at that end of town, or just passing through on the nearby freeway, this should be your go-to liquor store.
