Like the United Church of Christ (considered a sister denomination), it does not expect those who attend to carry specific beliefs on any issue, but focuses on studying the Bible together to try to become better followers of Christ. The core values are promoting true community (both within the congregation and the wider community) and deep spirituality that calls on us to question our beliefs and whether we are living into them, calling us to pursue justice with a passion that demonstrates our appreciation of all Christ sacrificed to show us how to live. While this church, like all I have attended, could do better in some ways, it is unreasonable to expect that only saints will seek out a community of others struggling to live into their faith. As far as I'm concerned, a church that was the first in town to become open and affirming, to join Health Care for All Oregon to support universal health care, and that is seriously challenging the orthodoxy on Palestine-Israel is head and shoulders above most and worth checking out. In a time when faith in religious institutions is falling, this is a church that will only become more relevant to the struggles ahead when other progressive churches fail to.

I left the moment the closing worship began. Oddest church service I've ever attended. Not recommending. Moving on in search of a church that is scripture based. Most of the "art" inside is equally "inspiring." Other than the bas-reliefs of Joseph&Mary with the Child Jesus, and the ascended Christ looming over the altar, it's a blah church in the round. Architecturally&artistically, not that great. In other aspects, it shines, like its neighboring Adoration Chapel, and services like the St. Vincent de Paul food bank. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer&participate in serving the community. While the church is meh&the worship is alright, it's the community that matters.
