This is ridiculous. $15 to watch a 6th grade basketball game for 40 minutes and they don't even have enough seating BY HALF. No senior discounts so grandmas and Grandpa's have to pay $15 to stand and watch their grandkids play. Plus it's 90 degrees inside. DO BETTER. Stay away from these tournaments at all cost, it's a scam. Yes, they have an organized website and they found someone to design fancy tournament logos, but don't be fooled. This org is fueled by greed. Hoopsource somehow determines they can charge more for 5th and 6th grade games ($15/person) than HighSchool varsity basketball games. To the Hoopsource staff, those products are not the same. It's a joke and not too late to make a change. As you can imagine, all parents and families are pissed off about this. Last weekend, I watched a couple, who were rightfully shocked they had to pay $30 for a 5th grade game, make snarky comments at who I assume were tournament staff or volunteers. That didn't go over well and everyone in the lobby watched two pathetic old men get in a pissing contest dropping f-bombs around families. So a real great environment Hoopsource is fostering... And then the scheduling. They'll plug any team anywhere to make that registration money rain. We've played outside of our skill level to fill out a pool, or like last weekend, we moved up a grade plus skill level, and I paid $60 for my family to watch our kid lose games by 40 and 50points. What's the point? The winning teams don't get anything out of it either. If Hoopsource could refund some of my money to help pay for the team's group therapy they'll need to overcome last weekend, that would be great. However Hoopsource may want to save this money, because the consensus from most teams I've spoke with is they're going to start looking at other tournament organizations. read more

This organization is a joke, for lack of a better word. They charge upwards of $16 a person for you to watch kid play basketball then have the audacity to ask parents to run the clock & scoreboard. The facilities are often held at this rundown schools. They can't even bother to restock the toilet paper in the bathrooms. They cater to club sports and allow the players/coaches to act however they want with no accountability. Somebody needs to give this business some healthy competition and force them to change their ways. read more

Just one of the worst ran youth basketball programs I've ever seen. Poorly managed brackets on a 3-day weekend require people to play one game a day and pay their ridiculous entry fee for each game. Oregon Amateur Basketball has far better tournaments, and only charge an $8 entrance fee. Do better or get out of the area. read more

Hoopsource tournaments are a complete rip off. Most of the locations they hold these tournaments in have poor/inadequate/uncomfortable seating, no wifi, gross restrooms, no outside food policies, and they charge $12 pp/per day just to watch! That means for my family of 4 to watch my 6th grader play mediocre 6th grade basketball, it's $48 per day ( tournaments are usual multiple days). In contrast, I'm headed to a d1 college game tonight, and tickets are $ 6. There's something wrong here, Hoopsource is greedy and taking advantage of families in the Portland area. Yuck! read more

I attended the NW Hoop Summit this two weekends ago. What a disappointment. 1. Scheduleing of the games.  We have two teams with some siblings on both teams. We were scheduled at the same time and in two different places. One of our teams played on Saturday was at Reynolds High School in the morning/afternoon and the other team at Rex Puttum High School in the evening. On Sunday one of our teams played at Alkin Middle School in Washington and the other team at Reynolds High School. They played an hour apart and then played at the same time. As a parent it was difficult to be at both of my kids games being so far apart and at different times.  I would for your organization to have been consider this the next time you see both our teams playing in the tournament as you have done in the past. 2. Gyms. The gyms that were used were very hot and had no air conditioning. It made it very hard for the kids to play and sit and watch the games. Next time maybe you could provide some fans. There was not one fan in the three schools we played at. 3. Referee. It was a very disturbing game in which the referee displayed unnecessary behavior. It was unbelievable to have a referee give a technical to someone that was talking to someone else in the stands. He was very rude and disrespectful. His behavior during these games is not acceptable. We should be able to come to a game and have a conversation with whomever we want in the stands without our team getting a technical. Nothing was being said to the referee during the game until multiple technical were given for reasons not related to the game. I have been to many high school basketball games and have never seen this before. There was another referee there that spoke up about this performance and said he had never seen that before.  This referee should not be allowed to referee anymore games if he is not able to be fair and consistent by following the rules. There must be some form of accountability for his actions. We are dealing with kids and his focus should have been on the game rather than what was occurring in the stands. He is there to referee. For a coach to get a technical for saying travel is unbelievable. The referee said we lost the game but the score sheet said we won. He obviously did not want our team to win. A referee is supposed to be objective and make sure that the rules of the game are followed. This referee did not do his job and the kids had to suffer because of it. This has been by far the worst tournament that our kids have played in. The way our team was treated was unacceptable. You all did not do your job as an organization. read more

We again came to the tournament this past weekend and my boyz did not dissappoint! Our group from Vegas showed up and showed out. Tuff crowds, but the boyz were ready to compete and they did that! Great staff this weekend, especially the young queens that were hosting at the front of the facility. Shout out to our first time coaches for working through the tough weekend! Overall we enjoyed playing in the Hoop Source tournament over this past weekend, the coaches in involved treated everyone everyone very well and we say many different teams from new places that we had not played before. Some of the locations from one day to the next were a little spread apart, but we liked seeing new gyms. The refs the first day were great and the following day were average - but did as well to be expected. We look forward to coming back the following month and hope to see some of these new teams again. One of our match-ups was lopsided, but we are improving. I've worked for HoopSource as referee for the past five years and have always had a good experience. I typically have worked with good partners when I'm assigned games. If I was assigned to work with a new official they're always eager to learn and open to feedback. Their tournaments are very good as well. We recently came back to Oregon for a family trip, AKA my son playing with his AAU team. HoopSource got it right! We came to OR thinking this was going to be a lot of the same, hometown referees, bad organziation, and an overall bad experience. Being from Seattle, we always expect that from the peeps down South :) However, this tournament organization was different! They were on top of everything. They have a cool app that you can download to stay on top of game times, etc, as well as great referees, venues, and overall, we had a blast! I would recommend these guys over anyone else in the area. They do it right, and took care of us from the North. Thank you guys, we will be back, you can assure that, I have already talked to the coach about coming back to all your tourneys this year. One piece of advice, if you would, please provide more concessions options at your facilities. Hoopsource Basketball organizes many quality youth basketball tournaments throughout the year in the Portland Metro area. The tournaments provide the opportunity for youths to further develop as basketball players and members of the community. I have attended many youth basketball tournaments for over 15 years, and Hoopsource Basketball is by far the best run organization I have seen. #1 priority is keeping the games moving, to the detriment of the athletes. Without exception, every single tournament we have been to has been the same thing: referees that don't care to manage a game, causing kids to get hurt. All for the sake of keeping games on schedule. I'm not a fan of most for-profit tournament organizations, as it takes away from the individual school programs and their ability to survive. Hoopsource, while bringing in the top club programs in the region, promotes an overly physical hack-fest. I've talked to a number of state certified high school officials, and they have told me they do not referee hoopsource tournaments because they are urged to keep games moving. They mention hoopsource by name. If you want your kids to face the toughest teams the Northwest has to offer, you'll be hard-pressed to find higher level competition than at a hoopsource tournament, but don't expect many fouls to be called, and don't be surprised if your kids get hacked. I don't know what other basketball programs hoopsource offers, so other aspects may be top-notch. Youth tournaments... Not so much UPDATE: 5/16/16. Confirmed! After playing in the 'spring youth league' my previous experiences were validated. Crappy venues and refs that care more about keeping the game moving than managing a clean game. Then, we participated in a 'spring showcase' tournament. , SINGLE REFS for games (great for kids getting hurt, overly physical play, dirty tactics), and having to walk almost a mile to get to the court (no nearby parking) and teams still having to provide people to work the scoring table. literally got kicked out of last game within seconds due to a flagrant foul, which may have been worth ejecting one player but they straight up called the game and said we were banned until further notice. This wasn't the first time Hoopsource did us dirty, in many of our games refs and parents simply had bias against us as we didn't have a coach or official jerseys. We talked smack but every other team did too which the refs also called us out on. Overral we paid 600$ to get kicked out of two games, get yelled at by overly-attached parents, have the worst referees in the game, and we had to go to so many different gyms in such various locations like Milwaukee, Vancouver, and Gresham. Never again will me and my squad use Hoopsource or recommend it. read more

Without HoopSource basketball I wouldn't have been a successful player and wouldn't be currently a successful coach because of the ELITE competition I squared up against each and every week. Hoopsource is the #1 place to go for winter tournaments along side a tremendous spring and fall league on the entire West Coast. They do things the right way! Hoopsource and their tournaments are terrible. The goal of this organization is to make money by getting as many teams as possible into crappy gyms. This is our 4th year playing these tournaments only because our school gets a slight discount. The worst part is the refs they are horrible. 80% of these refs are only there for a paycheck. They don't make calls because they want to get the game going. Stay away. I wish there were more options for youth sports. Hoopsource shouldn't be one. read more

Last day of the tournament is at Hudson's Bay High School with no good spot for parents to watch the games, and where we were able to sit we got kicked out because they needed it for softball. So glad we'll never have to be in another hoopsource tournament again. read more

I've reffed for a number of different clubs, leagues, and people. This is my first year reffing for hoopsource and they are by far the most organized and reasonable league I've refereed for. People getting mad about calls is inevitable it happens every game no matter how good you call a game, you cannot and I repeat you CANNOT! Catch everything in a game, I love being around the kids and being able to tell them what they are doing wrong so they grow into great players. The competition varies and if you are in the D1 level expect major competition there are some great teams and players playing at that level. Even the other levels have great competition. I recommend hoopsource for anyone looking for great competition I've played basketball for a number of years and wish I had this when I was younger. If you aren't sure about your team at which level I'd ask Ryan, I've seen some mis matched teams in some higher levels then they should be and mad at the reffs when their teams are getting blown out. Great league great competition recommend anyone with a AAU team or high school team to get some good comp in. read more

Continue to be disappointed that the refs Hoopsource continues to hire are uninterested and poorly trained. I asked for my admission fee back since during two games a ref was not paying attention to the game he was hired for, rather he was watching the game on the other court that seemed more interesting to him. He missed several obvious calls and players were getting hurt. I texted the number I was given by the man at the front desk asking for a refund. The response I got back from Hoopsource is as follows, "Really? That's the text you want to send us? This conversation has ended. Honestly, Hoopsource is an okay League. I've been with Hoopsource for a couple years now and every year it seems to get worse. I'm pretty sure the refs aren't trained whatsoever and they don't usually know what they are doing. The scores from the day used to be posted a couple hours after they happened, now it takes about 2 days. The teams you play are totally random, one game I was playing men, the next I was playing 7th graders, in the Freshman division. Even if you lose both games one day, the next week you have a high chance of playing way better teams. You get put into the worst gyms where the out of bounds is tape and you can barely keep your feet in bounds when your on the side by the three point line. They don't care about you, they care about the money and how many teams are entered, and they just want to keep the game moving. Also the admission is really annoying, having to pay every week just to watch. read more
