I will preface this review by saying that I am from the State of Hawaii so a Ho'olaule'a is somewhat second in nature to me. That said, I must commend the planning and steering committees of this event for doing such great and thorough planning and coordination. Street and Craft vendors took their places on the lawn along with food and beverage vendors. The Alondra Park becomes Little Hawaii with the ethnic foods and crafts. From what I learned, this Ho'olaule'a has been going on for nearly 20 years. Over the years, the participation and interest kept mushrooming to become an event looked forward to yearly. Some things to know: 1) Sani Pottys are available. 2) Trash cans and recycle bins available. 3) Parking available (this year it was $3) on and within the El Camino College parking structures 4) The event is free 5) Go prepared to sit under the sun (sunscreen, hats, beach mats helpful to have) 6) Keep it light because you may have a long walk. So bring only what you need and leave the rest behind. 7) No pets allowed (only service animals) 8) Entertainment provided; hawaiian music and dance. 9) Go with an empty tummy. Many food concessions available An annual event even I who has Ho'olaule'a in my own hometown found this event to be fun, friendly and fulfilling. Hana Hou Ho'olaule'a

So fun to attend. I love how there's a bunch of things to do like eat, shop, watch performances. They have a good amount of food stalls. Usually, the lines are long especially around lunch time and is expected. Of course, the food prices are a little higher since it is a festival. The food is yummy, some better than others. The lines go fairly quick considering that a good amount of time, they're heating up the food on the grill if you get barbecue, for example. The vendors are plenty and most accept cards. There's a lot of things to buy such as jewelry, tons of clothes, plants, accessories, bags, hats, etc. The performances are so fun to watch. The dancers are great. The mc is fun and informative. You can bring your own blankets, banigs (yes, I'm Filipina), and lawn chairs to watch the show. Everyone is friendly! Everyone! Parking is easy. It's 5 bucks at the nearby structure! I can't wait for next year!! Everyone should go, even once to experience island vibes!

Wonderful Event. Bringing Hawai'i to Southern California. It really feels like home catching friends and family, meeting cultural practitioners and hula sisters, getting to eat the best dishes that we love and miss! This and soooo much more!

This annual event is a Family tradition for us! It's the largest Hawaiian festival in the South Bay (at Alondra Park) and maybe even on the mainland overall! Families gather here to watch a FREE Show, shop many different beautiful items from Hawaii directly & purchase some of the yummiest food available! We love coming here every year and even have family fly in, drive in from it of town to attend this beautiful event with us! It's all outdoors, so yes it can get a little hot! But if you're lucky enough to be able to come early when it first starts, you can get a good shady spot under the trees! Just be sure to bring a blanket and jacket bevy it does get chilly in that shade! We always bring our beach chairs too to have a nice comfy seat so we can enjoy the show! We absolutely love coming here every year & Not just because we're Hawaiian but because it's such a beautiful event to attend and spend some well needed quality time with our Ohana. :) ((As Stitch says: "Ohana means family, & family means...No one gets left behind."

so happy that I was able to make it to this annual Hawaiian celebration. festivities began at 9am, but I didn't arrive until after 11. by then the party was in full force. I walked through the backstage since I parked along Redondo Beach Blvd. and saw a multitude of dancers getting ready for their moment on the stage. I just felt the love of the islands as I passed through. for a moment it felt like I was in Hawaii. there were probably a few thousand folks at the celebration when i arrived. plenty behind the scenes, on the stage performing, watching the show with blankets, lawn chairs and umbrellas, and folks in line for food stalls and shopping for merchandise. if you missed bringing yourself something back from your last Hawaii trip, fret no longer. they have just about everything here, well except for those chocolate covered macadamia nuts. hawaiian shirts, fabric to make hawaiian attire, plants, home decor... such a multitude of island gear. towards the back and further end of the huge lawn, is a hawaiian band playing, so as to not interrupt the show. everyone here is happy and the atmosphere is relaxed. really, you feel the love and joy of the islands. got myself some hot malasadas and spam musubi before heading home. there was a multitude of free parking on the southern end of the Redondo Beach Blvd. lot as i was leaving. walk through the lake with beautiful ducks and across the playground. this affair lasts two days, every third weekend of July.

I try to make it to this Hawaiian festival every year this event takes place in Alondra Park. Parking has been going up from $5 to $8 to park in the structure. If you can find street parking i highly recommend it unless you buy a lot of stuff and food but don't mind walking. It's not really big but can get packed. One side of the area is where all the vendors are you can buy cloths and other Hawaiian crafts and goodies. The other side is the food where lines can be long and food can run out. It's nice if you want the feel of the Hawaiian spirit they have hula, music and other shows going on throughout the day on stage. It's a great place to be the family for some outdoor fun.

I went to Ho'olaulea at Alondra Park this year with my best friend who is Hawaiian. She has been coming for years, but this was my first time. I loved everything about it! SPAM Sushi, Teriyaki, Kalua pork, Hawaiian Chop Suey, Rice, shaved Hawaiian Ice. Hula all day! They had it all! I was so excited to be there. There was a huge turn out of vendors. They had everything from tropical plants, artwork, car seat covers to clothes. It was an excellent spread. Not to mention all the eye candy! I heart Samoan boys! =) I will definitely come back next year.

I'm here every year! It's usually the 3rd weekend in July and the park will be packed! We set up a little "base" outside the main area of the festival so we could relax, eat and listen to the performances. Great variety of Island food; pricey but it's usually a fundraiser for a hula troupe or something. Lots of boutique type booths as well, selling Hawaiian/Island style merchandise. It's a great event - hula, ukelele and Tahitian performances all day Saturday and Sunday plus there's even a service on Sunday. Come early if you want a good spot for the performances. Park in the El Camino parking lot for a fee or try to find parking around in the neighborhood. There's plenty of portible restrooms if the regular ones are in use. Expect a long line at the shave ice booth!

The Ho'olaule'a is one of my favorite activities to do in July. A lot of time and effort has been placed by the Hawaiian Inter-Club Council of California in creating this Polenesian cultural event from ono food, having great Polenesian troupes performances, and a variety of merchandise vendors. Most of all, my daughter and I was showing our support since her aunt was doing the hula at one of the performances. Here are some recommendations/tips/information when going to this event: - It is free. No admission ticket nor entrance fee is required to attend this event. - Parking is $8.00 at the college. If you do not mind walking approximately 1/3 of a mile, parking is free in the residential area. - Service is held at the park on Sunday morning. - Bring water. - Wear sunscreen/hat. - Have a mat/picnic blanket, or a low back/short folding chair. If you plan to see the performances, please do not bring regular size folding chairs(unless you plan on sitting in the very back) because you will obstruct and impede on others' enjoyment of the show. - Bring cash. Some vendors do accept credits but most of food vendors accept cash only. - Please be courteous and do not take over other people's stuff. A family was sitting on our blanket when we returned from getting malasadas. I had to politely ask them to move. - Wear a Hawaiian shirt, dress, t-shirt, or lei to show your aloha spirit. They have good selection of ono food. Undecided on what to try? At the very least, try a malasada, shaved ice or a spam musubi. Unfortunately, they ran out of spam musubi by 2:00p.m. so get them early. Some of the vendors are non-profit organizations and are doing a fundraiser, please provide them your support. Also, there are many Polenesian merchandise available for purchase. They have Polenesian textile, jewelry, t-shirts, bags, books, pulmeria clips, etc. My daughter loves spam musubi so we always look for new t-shirt prints. The most popular item, I think for purchase are the plumeria branches. Be sure to ask what color bloom it will be. Most of all, have fun, sit back, watch a performance, and enjoy the event.

Its footprint encompasses the entire downtown area of Hermosa Beach with many street closures. Average attendance is 125,000 people over the 3 days. This year was the 53rd year. You can expect the same insane fun with five stages of music: Beach stage, Garden Stage, Garden Acoustic Stage, Java Man Stage and Carnival Stage. It will also feature a large Carnival for families with brand activations throughout the whole footprint for all to enjoy. Food and desserts will be ample whether dining at a local business or visiting the Food Fair and Dessert Depot. And of course we'll have over 250+ vendors in the streets for the shopping pleasure of all in attendance--we call it the Makers Mercado. Everything at Fiesta is open and free to enter for the public (except the Garden which has a $5 cover). The Garden will feature sponsored beverages as well as local tasty cocktails, beer and wine. Added this year is a new wine Garden between the Carnival and Makers Mercado. Loved all the carnival rides for the kiddos and live music. The beach is opened up to hundreds of picnic-ers beginning at around 4 and festivities begin at 5:30. Also called the Sunset Concert, it features both popular and unknown bands playing on a stage set up on the beach with the Pier as the backdrop. There's usually an opening band before the headliner, but all the music is beach-appropriate and universally liked. It starts at 5:30 p.m., and ends at sunset at between 7:30-8 p.m. The crowd varies from families with small children to the young singles crowd who mingle and chat (and need I say flirt) with neighboring picnic-ers. Most of the crowd brings blankets, coolers, picnic baskets filled with beach friendly food (anything that can be eaten without utensils or plates), and even bottles of wine. The police seem to leave the beach drinkers alone during these special events, but make sure to bring plastic cups for your adult beverages since glass of any kind is not allowed on the sand. We always bring wine (screw top or pre-cork it at home), plastic cups, napkins, cheese, crackers, meats, hummus, pita, veggies, etc. and turn the picnic into dinner. If you have a low portable table, it helps. Chairs are nice, but unnecessary. Also, bring a sweater since the beach gets chilly the minute the sun goes down!

I did not go with a child's optimism to the Roadium, but I did hope to find oddities to engage my mind, trinkets to admire and imagine about, and in general find something that would be right for me at a bargain price. And the Roadium on a Sunday, provided me the opportunity to find all the previously mentioned items and things, plus it also help me get steps in, in a slow pace, while I absorbed the sun's Vitamin D. I am surprised to say this, like super surprised, but the item that most caught- really arrested- my attention was a picture that centered the country's current sitting president: Trump. In the picture, Trump has his head down, eyes closed, hands and fingers interlocked, and he seems to have a face of meditation, maybe receiving peace and/or knowledge. And behind stand a variety of historical and political powerhouses of the past, like Nixon, Reagan, Washington, Lincoln, and others that I could not recognize to name with confidence. However, all had their eyes closed, and had an aura of tranquility that also carried palpable notes of worry. What struck me the most is that the group, in tense serenity, included men and women of color. It is important to note that I clipped the picture, to give the reader or viewer the opportunity to collect their own thoughts and land their own interpretation. That got heavy. I also clipped a picture of quinceneras. One was dressed in Cinderella blue with a carriage, horse, and carriage handers were in the background, I thought it was A.I. generated but perhaps some people do have quinces like that, in fact I know they do, I used to wacth my Super Sweet Sixteen on MTV. Getting inside the Roadium is hard on a Sunday. But apparently worst on others day because the Roadium has different vendors on different days and each attracts a different type of crowd. For instance, on the firstMonday of the month vendors from the Rose Bowl Flea Market come. Please know that I am recycling information that was provided to me by one of the vendors. Research, please to verify accuracy. However, she also explained that on Mondays, when the Vintage Vendors come, parking becomes nearly imposible to find, even on the street. On this day, it cost 5 dollars, the cashiers only accept cash, The place has trinkets, food, and finds, seriously, it is a cool walk to see, touch, and get lost, if that is something one can do- shop vendors with nothing you want to buy, but still find meaning in the seeing and touching. I had peanuts on this day, but they were special because they were freshly toasted. Like I got a few to try (both extra toasted and not so toasted) and they were still warmed from the machine that toasted them. The touch of a warm shell was enough for me to be impressed but the freshness was key. This vendor explains that sometimes the peanuts in the store are 10 days old, after they were first roasted. Again do research. I saw micro Mexican candy stores with some of the candy that really communicates non-tourist streets of Oaxaca. I also bought three shirts. One was 8, two other ones were three dollars, and I feel like they were honest finds. I took a video of a barbie like doll, not barbie, using a Segway, which I thought was a wink to the modern that made sense yet never seen. I also saw a Spiderman Halloween shirt. And I thought how weird. It was him siting Spidey like, and he was pumpkin orange with bats behind him. It was juvenile because it was Disney product from theri Halloween bash time. So this place does have what was one precious yet never bought. I can see how someone might get something today to use at another day, or simply, be creative and DIY stuff from the stuff they found here.

They also sell a lot of roasted peanuts that's freshly made and they have a lot of good food stands as well. The only thing is that the parking can be a little crazy, but other than that, this is a really good outdoor spot meet and I love to come here to grab some cute things for reasonable deals. This was a relatively small show held in a small hotel conference room because it was really niche and specialized with a focus on high-end original comic book artwork. No comic books, no costumed cosplayers, no B-List celebrity autographs. It is a pure published art show, where most of the dealers brought at least $1 million in priced original artwork merchandise for sale (or trade). Attending as exhibitors (according to their website) were: Will's Comic Art Page (Will Gabri-El) Genesis West (Mike Thibodeaux) Koch Comicart (Pete Koch) Cool Lines Art (Rich Donnelly) Josh Gray Leo Chua Nostalgic Investments (Bechara Maalouf) Odyssey Comic Art (Saul Zimmerman) Panel Page Art (Glen Brunswick) Art Restorations Specialist (James Pascoe) Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center (Tom Kraft) Most of the dealers were highly reputable sellers who have a public online presence selling through their own websites and recognized as expert authorities with decades of experience in the comic art hobby. This is a fast growing sector within the art world and comic book hobby. I'd estimate most artwork for sale ranged from as little as $25 and as high as pieces priced over $100,000, with most pieces in the $3,000-10,000 range for highly recognized super-hero characters rendered by top named masterpiece artists. Most of the artwork was from the Silver Age to Bronze Age era's of comics in the 1960's through the 1980's as the sweet spot most collectors clamor towards. There wasn't much modern (recent) artwork present. On the positive side, it was almost all published artwork and not riddled by mediocre unpublished commissions and no-name amateur artwork nor mass produced (and often unlicensed) prints you'd find at many if not most comic conventions. This convention was for the more higher end and prestigious collector and investor more so than casual fans. Admission was $20. It's a fair price given the overhead costs to run a show. To the savvy collector, that $20 is easy to pay to gain access to one-of-a-kind rare original artwork, where you're negotiating deals in the thousands of dollars. Even if you can't afford to spend hundred, thousands, tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands, it's almost like visiting an Art Museum to see historical original artwork in-person at this show. For an inaugural convention, the debut of the LA Comic Art Show has promise and potential to grow into a great convention without getting too big or losing focus. I'm looking forward to seeing how the show evolves in 2019. Parking was super easy and FREE in the hotel parking lot. The hotel itself is conveniently located near the 405 South/North Freeway as well as the MTA Metro public transit (the station is just across the street), also near LAX Los Angeles Airport.
