I'm glad it was Costa Sol Rafting. Make sure you book at least a day in advance, a week or 2 during busy season. They will pick you up so don't bother driving. We were at a Hostel in San Jose. First of all. I don't care what anyone says. Our guides Jorge and Ronnie kept us alive. 3 out of the 6 of us fell out of the boat during our 1st class 4 rapids. I was lucky enough to have stayed on the boat so I was privileged to see Jorge and Ronnie work under pressure. They were absolute experts while shouting commands at those in the water and at us in the boat. We all made it out! Sounds scary? Look people. You're white water rafting class 1 to 4 rapids. So don't complain how dangerous it is. Go to the rivers that offer only cute class ones if class 4 is not your thing. If my rescue story isn't enough reason to choose Costa Sol Rafting, not sure what you're looking for. All the companies raft the same Pacuare River. BUY THE DISK!!! Check out my pics. Your camera or Gopro will not duplicate the skills of Ronnie. He was an amazing camera man! He also did barrel rolls in his kayak. Such a beast. Oh and they feed you before AND after! Yay! The Lake Mansfield Recreation Area boasts two main attractions directly across a narrow road from…read moreeach other. First is the lake itself -a gorgeous 29-acre pond with a strip of sandy beach front, grassy shaded picnic area, benches and swings. On the other side of the road is a forest with a network of forest trail walks. The trail is mostly flat and made of crushed stone. We parked by the main entrance at the beach and headed north on the well marked Main Trail before we peeled off to the right to walk the Loop Trail which eventually rejoined the Main Trail and took us back to our car. It was peaceful and tranquil today as the only other soul we saw was a young lady jogging along to her music. It was gorgeous out there- the trees were bare of leaves in preparation of the inevitable harsh winter and we agreed it was one of the better hikes we'd had in a while. One cool thing we saw on the Loop Trail was a humongous boulder off on the side of the trail. It appears on the trail map as (you guessed it) "Boulder".

What a fun, adventurous river tubing experience for the whole family. Some parts of this river is…read moreslower, some parts faster moving, a good variety and speed. We arrived around 12:30 noon, paid, everyone got a wristband, took a tube (and life vests for the younger kids), loaded with the tubs onto the yellow school bus that took us about a 10 minutes ride to the upper part of river. By the time we got into the river to start, we can see the water rising quickly from the release of the water from the upper part of the dam. (No point to come too early as the water level was too low so you're not going fast down the river, until the water rises.) And that's where the fun & adventure starts! This place was well run, very affordable price (compared to other places nearby), the family running the place nice. There are 2 clean porta potties and lots of tables where everyone can have lunch after. Great fun to social distance and be in the water and the great outdoors. We brought strings to tie some of the tubes together for the kids. And we saw some people even bring their own paddles. Unlike some places, they aren't strict with what type of shoes you wear (if you want to at all). I was hesitant to take my family there due to some negative reviews but this place didn't disappoint. Highly recommend and we'll surely come back.

You can either strap the tubes onto your car yourself, drive up to the starting spot and tube down the river, and then they shuttle you back to your car, or they can drive you to the starting spot. It was about a 1-1.5hr tubing ride which was a perfect length. Had truly a great time, and ended with hot dogs and root beer floats!! Really a great find and a great deal, and happy to support a small family business.
