Disorganized mess. Incorrect labels/signs leading you on goose chases. Unhelpful staff that is borderline rude. Additionally, there are no restrooms - so while you're lost trying to find books, following incorrect labeling, and navigating the otherwise chaotic disorderliness, you can rest assured that they will be unaccommodating. I recently took my family here, and as we were compiling a stack of books worth a couple of hundred dollars (we're working to stock our home library built-in shelves), our toddler son needed to use the restroom. We asked if he could use theirs, and they said no. Rather than spending my money with them, I left my stack of books where they were and took my son to the restroom at Barnes & Noble, where I continued my book shopping. As for the bulk of used books I need, I can obtain them via Amazon and AbeBooks, and don't have to support a rude local business that is unhelpful and falls short of providing a quality experience. Why shop local when you can shop at the giants who care about their customers? I will never return. read more

This used bookstore has a massive inventory. It is not visibly appealing or inviting, but contains many rows of floor-to ceiling shelves laden with books. The cost is typically $6 for a hard-bound book. That is quite a DEAL! read more

Amazing! This is the hidden gem of Springfield for anyone that is a serious reader. They have thousands and thousands and thousands of titles, all of which are in great shape! Further they have good quantities in stock of every title, which is great so you don't show up only to find they just sold out. Additionally, super friendly staff that is both knowledgeable and friendly! To me that is extremely important, if you don't believe me than go watch a little film entitled "You've got mail" starting Tom Hanks. Prices are surprisingly low, even on books that are new and not used. Overall, if you like to read or know someone that does, hooked on books is for you! read more

What a great store! The thing I love the most is that if you can't find the book you want, they will take your name and number and give you a call when it comes in. The staff is very knowledgeable and always so willing to help. I live really close by so this bookstore is the most convenient. That being said, I drive to Half Price Books located on Glenstone when I can/have the time to avoid Hooked On. I do this for two reasons. Firstly, Hooked On has a nice selection, but it's hardly worth having to communicate with their staff that generally cop attitude. There are two people, both whom look over the age of thirty, that are tolerable. They are kind, and informative. But the college people they hire are assholes. Secondly, I drive to HP instead of Hooked On because this establishment takes books on traders preference, i.e. the hormonal college kid who doesn't like the look of your "how to remain equine in a sapien world" will hand it back to you with a "no thanks" without checking amazon to see how much it could bring them. TL;DR: Hooked On books is hooked on hiring hormonal hussies who judge every book they see by it's cover. read more

Everything you want in a used bookstore. Great selection and done of the friendliest staff I have ever come across!!

I can always find something fun as I climb through the many stacks of the best used bookstore in Springfield. They have so many books it takes me an hour to make selections and then another twenty minutes to figure out that is what I want. Most of all I love the smell of this store, it smells like old books and that my fellow yelper's is the smell of knowledge, adventure, imagination, and just plain creativity. The prices are extremely affordable, mostly 1/2 of the cover and they will give you a great deal on trade credit. They have books on every subject matter you can think of and sometimes more than one of the same book. And if you can't find what you want just reserve it and they will call once a copy is traded in.
