    Northern brook cold brew
    Philip B.

Amazing local coffee roaster with a passion for great coffee. This family run shop has a fantastic selection of coffee, as well as the BEST cold brew I highly recommend their "Northern Brook" cold brew. I typically get one right before my long Saturday bike rides and it's the perfect boost. These people really care about their product and customers. My usual order is a bag of beans and a cold brew and it comes to around $14. The bags of coffee are delish, and they will grind in-store. They'll also do a custom grind depending on how you brew your coffee (drip, aero, French, pour-over, etc). 5/5 would recommend anytime!!! Get here ASAP

Love this coffee so much we take it on vacation with us!

Oh it's just coffee...not when you have it from Hooked On A Bean. From the cozy store front to the family that owns and operates this beanery it's absolute perfection. We've purchased a few different kinds and each are equally amazing in flavor and quality. I drink a decaf and their decaf is superior to any other brand I've ever tried. The fact that they hand blend spices to add to their coffee is mind blowing and the careful attention paid to small batch roasting means each bag has been given undivided attention. You taste it in every cup. It doesn't hurt that the owners are one of the most kindest and sweetest families that you'll ever meet. Flat Rock is lucky to have Hooked On A Bean. And all those who walk through their doors will be Hooked...on their beans.

Fresh perc coffee while relaxing on the boat

What an amazing family owned business. The smell of freshly roasted beans greets you at the door and the friendly staff is there to make you feel welcome. I look forward to my weekly visit to pick up more beans and a couple iced coffees. They have a nice selection of freshly roasted beans and their own custom blends so I guarantee you will find something to love. If you're not sure what to buy they will gladly assist you in finding the right coffee to suit your preference. Then they will custom grind it however you need. If you love coffee and if you appreciate great service I definitely recommend stopping in to see for yourself.

I have been to this location several times to pick up bags of coffee and iced coffee. Each time I've gone in the lady at the register has seemed lost. There was no greeting and if anything I have always been ignored for other customers. Specifically customers whom she seems to know on a personal level. Recently my wife, requested a bag for pickup, and it was given away. My wife believes in second chances so she requested another bag, but due to our daughter having surgery she requested delivery. The owner stated that they delivered, but that they were already giving away the requested bag that they had made and set aside for her. This just shows the level of unprofessionalism and poor customer service. As a Christian, who should have empathy for others, you should have stated a) I deliver and follow through or b) I'll hold your bag until you can pick up, not oh I'll just give your bag away. If anything this is the opposite of following Christ's teachings. Christians are to be servants of one another. The proof of how this company runs can be seen in the attached photos of the conversations between my wife and the owner! Interesting response, because every time I've come in it's been either just myself or one customer in there, but I still get ignored. Nothing overwhelming about that. Also at no time have you stated anything about prepaying until now to make sure that no one gets upset with my review.

Autumn Roast is delicious. Hope it's available all the time.

Friendly faces are ready to make some amazing coffee for you. I love the fusion of chocolate and orange so I went with the orange mocha, minus the marshmallows. There are places where the espresso hits different, this is definitely one of those cases. It's delicious, truly. You can smell the orange with each sip, it's a beautifully balanced drink, kind of like a good cocktail. And it's not overly sweet! I'll be adding this spot to my rotation and I'm looking forward to the next set of seasonal drinks.

They roast their own beans and also sell beans from DTROITR. I ended up buying a bag from both roasters, so we'll see how that goes. FLAT WHITE - 4.50 +1 for hazel honey I got mine with whole milk, and it was creamy and mildly sweet from the honey. It had a slightly acidic flavor, and the overall drink was very smooth and enjoyable. It was a bit small, but we could really taste the espresso flavors. BLUEBERRY LAVENDER MUFFIN - 4 We also got a blueberry lavender muffin to enjoy, but it was very cakey and dry, almost dense. It was also too sweet, so it was hard to pick out the floral notes from the lavender. I would not get this again. Cute shop. Good coffee, hope the beans are good too.

The business is tucked away in a strip mall sitting around the corner from the main road and is not readily obvious from the main road where you almost purposely have to be looking for it to see it. The business as mentioned in other reviews defiantately has the look and vibe of the rustic little touristy stores you see up north where I assume this is exactly what they are trying to achieve and makes this business a fun place to peruse. As the desire for a good cup of coffee is what brought me here, I ended up getting a cup of their medium roast Ethiopian coffee where the beans are roasted in house. my coffee was full bodied, nicely balanced with no harsh notes and quite tasty. An excellent cup of Joe at a very fair price of $3 for a large cup. Nice! One of the gals who worked there told me that if I liked that coffee than I would really like"Grunting Buck" medium roast where I purchased a 16 Oz whole bean bag for $16, Great price for any specialty coffee but one that was just fresh roasted is an amazing deal in my mind. For a small shop that has a lot of character there is a lot to look at and see here which is part of the interesting experience of shopping here. Staff is super friendly as they greet you as you walk in and offer assistance, if required, and then gives you space to shop at your own pace. Lastly there is a hot made to order food menu for breakfast and lunch to go along with their Barista operation. All in all, a superior small business that promotes made in Michigan that needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. Five stars in my book!

I came on an off day so the place was closed. It looked small but I decided to come back the next weekend and check it out but they put out a sign saying closed : Out Hunting. Determined I came back for a 3rd attempt and boy am I glad I did! Inside it is much larger than the outside would make you to believe. There is so much to look at and consider purchasing. The best part is it is all high-quality Michigan-made! Also, bonus is that for your first visit you are treated to a free cup of fresh brewed coffee; I loved mine. I got a delicious chocolate/caramel candy bar from the U.P., some craft beer for when my friends visit and some locally harvested honey for my biscuits and tea. Score! There is art work all over the walls. I was amazed at the size of the stuffed turkey - it was massive. If you are into hunting, well look no more. There are gifts galore for the hunter in your life. I saw knives, deer scent spray, apparel, jerky, you name it, they have it. You can't help but feel proud to be a Michigander after visiting this shop. Shop local, support Michigan and hurry on down to Deer Camp Coffee Roasting and Outfitters.
