Partial view of La Parguera after leaving the dock

Literally the coolest thing I have ever done. Went during the offseason so it was relatively quiet at the mangrove sand bar we visited before hitting the bio bay. The bio bay alone was worth every penny, our guide was knowledgeable and very friendly answering any questions and providing info about the area and history of both La Parguera and the bay itself. I felt like a kid again being able to swim in the bay. All fear of being in the ocean at night evaporates as the dinoflagellates (the bacteria) start glowing as it turns to night and light up all around you. It's truly a magical experience.

I have done bioluminescent excursions in Jamaica, Mexico, and Thailand. Puerto Rico - La Parguera - didn't disappoint. It was important to me that we actually swam in it (other bays on PR don't allow this). Nicole was an amazing guide. Thank you!!!!

I have taken the sunset tour twice and it is absolutely amazing! We will probably take this tour every single time we visit PR. Pro tip: Plan your tour when the moon is small- as close to the new moon as possible. The bio bay shines brightest when night is at its darkest!

We did both the snorkeling, and the bioluminescence bay tours with Hook'd - we booked the bioluminescence bay and we were so happy with Captain Nicole and the whole experience, that we booked the snorkeling with them that night. In both cases, Captain Nicole was just the best. She is very knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. She knows a lot about the area and the history of it. The sea life, the stars if you're lucky enough to go on a cloudless night. We had a great time snorkeling, and she gave us numerous options for what snorkeling we'd prefer to do and really made this a pleasure. I highly recommend Hook'd on Adventure for any adventure they offer in the Parguera area. Both Nicole, and Angel are fantastic. This is the kind of family business that just beats any other kind of business.

Captain Angel explaining the mangroves on the way to witness a stunning sunset

If I could give 10 stars to captain Angel, and Nicole I absolutely would!! They made the entire experience one of the most magical and memorable experiences I've ever had. Incredibly knowledgeable and experienced no doubt. I will never forget the evening I got to spend witnessing an incredible sunset on the boat and swimming in the bio bay was breathtaking!! I will return!!

Had a fantastic sunset cruise and swim in the bioluminescent bay! Nicole was fantastic and so knowledgeable about the area. Will definitely be back!

Our boat Captain Nicole was great! She was very knowledgeable of the history of La Parguera... She took us to several spots to swim and see.. Well worth the money!!! So happy we chartered a tour.. Would definitely recommend to friends and family!!! You will not be sorry!!!

What a great adventure!! This is a MUST do if you are in Puerto Rico. We stayed in Condado but made the 2 hr trek to La Parguera for this Sunset/Biobay boat tour. (We actually made a day of it by seeing the beautiful mountains, Ponce, and Las Salidas on the way) Our boat ride through the bay was magical stopping to see the pelicans nesting in the mangroves and swimming in the crystal clear waters as the sun set. Our captain had drinks and floating devices on board. Then, the magic happened...our captain took us into the biobay where we were able to swim in the water. Little "sparks of glitter" were all over us as we swam and it will be one of those moments my kids and I will never forget. The captain even let us swim under the catamaran haul to go into a darker area where you could see better. It was amazing! I know I will think of the night often. If you are on the fence about going, I hope this review is the one that convinces you to go...you won't be disappointed!!

Nice, safe boat

I researched the main areas on the island to do it and chose this area because they tow the kayaks out so you don't have to paddle far. With little kids and doing it late at night, this was a factor for us. It did not regret my choice and this company did a great job! First off, we were late and they waited for us. Our group was 10 people and we headed out. It was a perfect night weather-wise as the sky was a bit cloudy, but you could also see the stars. The cove they take you to is quiet and calm, although there are other groups there. We got 1 hour of total time on the water, so you could split it up however you wanted. We kayaked for about 20 minutes and it was so cool, watching the glow everytime you paddled. There was a corridor leading out of the cove you could paddle to, but we decided not to do it, who knows if it would have been darker out there. We swam for the rest of the time and it did not get old. Splashing around the glow was incredible! You have life jackets on the whole time as it is pretty deep. They gave you drinks on the way back to enjoy!

We did the 7pm tour because we brought young kids, but the 9pm might have been even better. My 11 year old said this swim was more magical than Disney world. A truly once in a lifetime experience! We've also done the bio bay in fajardo and that was cool but this was above and beyond, probably 100 times more bioluminescence

We drive out on the boat about 15 minutes all black surrounding us. We get somewhere towards the middle and the guide is all like okay go. The wave of awkward silence gripped us. Because, Go? Go where? Certainly not in this pitch black ocean/sea/bay/river or wherever we were lol. It took the 8 of us a minute to trust it. Life jackets required and stay no further then 5 feet from the boat. A guy went first and we watched. Then my daughter. Then me cuz well, my daughter lol. It was a great and fun experience waving around watching the plankton glow with our movements. Waving water over our limbs they lit up like ethereal glitter. We all swam on top of one another remarking Primo/Prima (cousins) because we were all too scared to go out further or spread too wide. It's a pitch black water experience and you don't know what's in the water or around you. The stars were absolutely beautiful with the lack of light in the area. They too refused to be filmed. Divas. I respect it. It forced us to live in the moment instead. Forced us to store the excitement, joy and experience in our minds and hearts. He let us swim 20 minutes. After the first 10 we were too overjoyed to be scared. There were after all, 8 of us in the water at that point. We swam close and near the boat and did weird movements to catch the plankton in a good glow. The guide was experienced over 30 years and very cool and relaxed. He was trustworthy and I say worth every penny. Even if you can't get photos you get the experience. It was one of my favorite experiences of all. Absolutely worth it.

They stop in the boats and let you jump out and swim! The boats are about 20 people per boat. They do take reservations if you call ahead, but they will also will take walk ups until the boat is filled. Bring a change of clothes. The parking is a public area and you have to walk a little bit, but it's not bad! It's about $10 per person, but worth every penny! Go on a darker night for sure!!! This is a must if you are visiting the south side of the island.
