    Welcome drink
    Dennis M.

Pretty good experience. Check in with the gate guard and they will let you know where to go. Probably far to the right and around to the coffee shop / gift shop. Go in and let the barista know you are with a tour and they will look you up and give you the included welcome cocktail. Eventually your guide will come get you. Overall, you tour the house, learn about rum and especially Don Q rum. You do sample a 7 year aged rum by itself , then blend with water. At the end you do a very nice mix class. We made a rum old fashioned and a oiña colada. Overall 4 drinks total in the event. Nice place. Recommended!

My travel companion had his heart set on doing a rum tasting tour at Don Q, so we had to make sure we tried it during our time in Ponce! However, be advised that this is NOT a distillery tour and you won't get to see any areas where the rum is made (that happens at an entirely different site). They offer three tours daily, but only the 1 pm one is in English, so plan accordingly. Currently there's capacity for about 27 people per tour, but when we went on a Wednesday, our total group was only about a dozen. We didn't pre-book and just walked up, but if you have a larger group or don't have a lot of flexibility on dates, you may want to reserve spots in advance. Parking is just on the side of the road opposite the entrance, and you can buy tickets at the little hut next to the gate. The rum tasting is $60 and includes access to the gardens, and we were told we could go to the gift shop and add on tickets for the Japanese gardens and the Vigía Cross (an observation platform) for $5 per person, but we didn't do that. When you enter, you go to the gift shop to check in and receive a welcome cocktail, then you wait on the balcony, which has an amazing view and is a great photo opportunity. You start by watching a short video about the history of Don Q. The tour goes quickly through the house, and you don't get to stop and look in the rooms, so I recommend taking pictures as you go. (There is a separate house tour for an additional fee.) From there, you go to a tasting room outside the house, where you'll try an aged rum straight from the barrel and then with water. Then it's back to the house for a "mixology class," which is really just making a pre-measured rum old fashioned and a piña colada. Still, it's fun to do, and you end up getting two more drinks! The tour ends in the gift shop, and there's plenty of time for questions throughout. It takes 1.5 hours total. I didn't realize that we wouldn't get to see much of the house and its historic furnishings, so that was a bummer. And I wish they would provide water, because they give you quite a bit of alcohol and it can go to your head in the heat. (They tell you to drink water, but they don't make it available or have a place to fill water bottles.) Definitely pick a designated driver who doesn't drink all of their rum, or get an Uber! The gardens are pretty and are worth a stroll after the tour. There are some nice areas for photos, like the floral arch at the bottom of the gardens. The gift shop has a small selection of PR souvenirs in addition to bottles of Don Q rum. Overall, the tour is worth it if you're a rum enthusiast and/or are prepared to drink three cocktails and a shot of barrel-strength rum at 1 pm. If you're less interested in alcohol or you want to see more of the house, I would recommend taking the house tour instead - there is a bar in the gift shop, so you can still have a drink while you're there. Either way, it's a fun and unique local experience. Enjoy!

We learned exactly how the rum is made, everything from the barrel origins and their whiskey distillery partnerships to the local fungi that grows around the aging facilities. It was also cool to find out they ship and bottle in Florida, and even generate their own electricity on-site. The tasting was the best part. It's wild how subtle additions like a coconut ice cube or a few coffee beans completely change the flavor profile of the rum. Great people, great drinks, and an awesome gift shop. We had perfect weather for it, too. I will definitely do this again.

We stopped on our way between the beach at Quebradillas and the airport, and were glad we did. The tour has changed in 16 years but the welcome was still warm and embracing. Everyone from the guard at the front gate to random workers were super helpful. We started in a pavilion waiting for outr tour to start. The cost of the tour gives you a token to a drink at the bar -- made with Bacardí of course. We decided to wait till after the tour for the drink. The tour was interesting. First a ride on a tram around the campus with Gabriela providing explanations, then we toured a museum which started with a short video followed by a walk through rooms with artifacts from the history of Bacaradí. The high point is an exact replica of the bar at the abandoned and collapsing Casa Bacardí in Havana. The tour by ended in the adjacent gift shop where you can buy Bacardí merch and special editions of rum. Then a walk back to the pavilion where my wife had a piña colada and I had daquirí. Lots of fun. If you have time, the Bacardí tour is well worth the time and the price of admission.

We got here on Sunday night and for about half and hour we were the only customers. The Sangria selection is simply overwhelming, there are about 80 Sangrías to choose from. They also have a selection of tapas, which you can "mix and match" through their sampler menu. We ordered the Sangria sampler which contained six different Sangrías (3oz each) for $18 and the mini food sampler (3 types) for $15. The sangria flavours that we ordered were: grape, passionfruit, coconut, guava, coffee and tamarind. As for the food, we ordered the Queso Frito, Guayaba Empanadillas and Chicken Alcapurrias. Each of the food items came in servings of five. I really appreciate the waitress's effort to explain the menu, as well as the food items to us. It wasn't necessary, as we would've figured out a way out but she was attentive and informative. I must say that upon arriving here, I expected some homemade sangria. Surely I didn't expect all 80 flavours to be made in-house, but I wasn't ready for the realization that all 80 flavours came from store-bought and sourced bottles. When we got the sampler, I was surprised by how overwhelmingly sweet the Sangrías were and the lack of fresh fruit flavour. The food was pretty good, I especially loved the saltiness of the queso frito. My suggestion for the owners is to start selling house-made sangria as nothing will ever beat the fresh-made taste. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the variety of flavours, as well as the service.

I can't put your finger on it exactly, the waiter was downright snobby. And looking at the other reviews here, I'm not the only one with that impression. After some additional unnecessary discomfort, we eventually settled the check and left to have dinner elsewhere. -- They said they didn't have a wine list when we asked for it, but the same waiter came with a list after we sat there indecisively deciding whether to leave or not. Didn't like the initial dishonesty. We were placed at a table under the air conditioner, which dripped on our table cloth. After putting in our orders, the waiter comes back and tells us the grouper carpaccio was out and suggests something else. We tell him to just waive it. He suggests another entree which we politely refuse. A short while later, the waiter says the grouper is somehow available again. Isn't that funny? Dishonest service and try-hard snobby ambience.
