I did see someone run over a beer bottle cap at the park which popped their tires, so maybe the bike insurance isn't so bad of an idea. The employees ensure that the bike frame and seat height fits and that we know how to use the locking mechanism before we get sent out. Bikes are in decent condition, functional for the most part, but could be better.

I swear to all that this was not because I am uncarefull, I had literally used it once in these 5 days to do my weekly groceries and for the rest I have been busy with my study on campus. I went back to the store and tried to explain that I wasn't happy that my brand new tire had already broken down. At first they didn't want to help me. They said: "We don't do guarantees and a lot can happen in 5 days. It is not our problem." I had to stamp my foot and insist that they'd at least have a look at my bike, which they did eventually with a heavy sigh. They looked at my bike but 'miraculously' there was no hole in my tire! It was intact. Probably the air valve had not been closed properly. They pumped the tire up and set me off. Bye. Now, the next morning, you guessed it: my tire is flat like a pancake! I feel scammed and lied to, and even if they didn't lie it shows they execute their job very poorly if you can't even find the cause of a flat tired. Absolutely ridiculous, I will never go here again. There are plenty of other bike shops in Utrecht, and this one is definitely below rock bottom on my list!!

No problem. I'm having a problem with my rear dynamo light on my Brompton. Dude there helped me debug it (lights broken). Noticed I had an aftermarket part on my bike and said, hey I have some stuff from NOV Design for your bike. If you don't know they are a high end parts maker out of Korea - kinda hard to come by. He goes and pulls three boxes full of parts! Amazing! I had to stop myself from buying one of everything. Totally great! They also rent bikes here too if you need one on visit. Good people + Good parts = Good shop. It's that simple. But wait, then: Good people = Good shop - Good parts. Good (people) = Good (shop - parts). people = shop - parts. Ok forget my equation. To ensure you ride off in the best bike possible. Their range varies, but they carry lots of second hand and ex-rental bikes as well as new bikes and also custom bikes. As well as selling bikes they have a great and knowledgeable maintenance staff who can fix most anything with your 2 wheeler. Additionally they'll fit most things you buy for them for free or cheap. Their range of accessories go beyond just locks and saddles, including front racks, baskets, chains, lights and crates. If you're new to Breda, and need a reliable and trustworthy bike, you could do much worse than De Klein Fietsen.

But I WAS surprised that in bike city no one came up with this idea erlier. I saved their number on my mobile phone despite my naive hope that I'll never have to call them. Shortly after I had to and I was thankful to hear that one of them was in the hood and I didn't have to wait too long. The guy came equipped with spare wheel, bike pump and toolset. The bike was quickly fixed and I don't remember what the service cost but I do remember that it is very good value for money and no extra urgency charge. So, I recommend everyone to save the number of DAFT to get quick hassle-free help in bike emergencies.

I emailed them over a holiday weekend, so it took a little while to get a response since we had to go back and forth a bit. Very convenient, but I had to wait an extra day since they couldn't meet me until after 11am. And even though I asked for the price ahead of time, they forgot to send it to me. Though, I think the cost was reasonable. I would just make sure you know the price before you go if it's not already on the price list. You can pay in cash or they will invoice you and you can transfer the funds that day. They have an app, but it's iOS only for now. :(
