Hi, I visited this place on Thursday, February 27, to schedule an appointment. I requested an oil…read morechange, a plate light replacement, a passenger-side mirror replacement, and a check for the EPC light that was on my dashboard. When I arrived for my appointment the following Monday, they didn't remember the oil change or the mirror replacement, so I had to remind them. Regarding the plate light, I provided the wrong one--that was my mistake. The team did a great job replacing the mirror, and I truly appreciate their time and effort. The oil change was a bit pricey, but I also appreciate the service. However, I never asked for the check engine codes to be deleted, yet I was charged $250 for that. What I specifically requested was for the EPC light and the shaking while driving to be checked, as I believed they were related. When I picked up my car, the check engine light was off, but it came back the very next day. Again, I never asked for the codes to be deleted, and the EPC light was still there. I understand that this is an old car with many issues, but I've been driving with those check engine codes for two years without any problems. I am not a native English speaker, but I know what I said--I'm not that bad at English. The workers here are very kind, but not the best listeners, I believe. Thank you again for your time and effort. This was my experience at this place

I found R&L by accident. My old machinist was retiring and had heard of them. I'm so glad I found…read morethem. I have to drive about 50 minutes to an hour to go there, but it's worth the effort because they are professional and do things right the first time. I first dropped off a flywheel for a balance, That went fine. Then I hurt my (marine 383) engine so I had my old machinist surface my cylinder block before I reassembled it with fresh rings bearings and gaskets. I was a little concerned about ring break in so I had R&L run in the engine. Got a bonus, their guy did a little bit of tuning with a jet change to put my afr values right on spec. Before R&L my engine was running well, now it's effectively perfect. I got a nice dyno sheet out of the visit too.

So, I was "encouraged" by the local boys in blue to be a bit "less threatening" in my review, as…read moreLeo and the crew feel unsafe. Here are the facts of my ordeal with this "business". Late spring of 2021 I ordered a completely machined and rebuilt 350 (bored out to 383) to include a new carburetor and fuel pump. I had some issues with the 350 that was in the car (frame up restoration from the "Nova Guy" in FlA), was knocking a bit and smoking. Engine was installed at a separate facility (DuPonts service car in Dover, NH) with precise instructions to NOT touch the carburetor as it had been set up to mate with the engine. Power plant was PERFECT. Not excessive horsepower (425), but sounded exactly as I had requested. Took it to some local car shows, then drove it 267 miles to my hometown for a car show first weekend of August, 2021. I noted that the idle kept speeding up. Upon returning back to Dover I took car to R&L to figure out the idle problem. They had Danny come out and readjust the carb. He adjusted EVERY setting on the carb. Idle was good. 2 weeks later, on the way home from Bentleys car show the gas gauge went from 3/8 to empty in about 20 seconds. Upon smelling strong scent of gas, I pulled over. Just as the car stopped (presumably out of gas) I heard a loud snap, and saw flames from the dash vents. 2 fire extinguishers did not even touch this blaze. I was left to kneel in disbelief while my $35000 car burned down on the side of the road in Wells, ME on a Tuesday night. I got a ride home, car still sitting on the side of the road awaiting tow to facility unknown. Next morning I called the Wells PD to find out where the car had been taken. Bobs towing in Kennebunk, 45 minutes from my home in Dover. Went up to clean out what was left of my belongings and try to figure out what happened. Bob (the owner of the business and a respected local businessman) came out and watched as I opened the hood, removed the air cleaner. I was looking down behind the engine (firewall) when Bob said "well, there's your problem". The float adjust screw on the Holley had worked it's way out and was laying on the back of the carb, threads facing up. Hadn't been tightened properly and had worked it's way out. R&L denied any possibility it was their fault, questioned my integrity and called Bob a lier. Even hinted that perhaps my (now) ex-wife may have caused the car to burn. They were the last (and only) ones to touch the carburator, which they sold me with my $8500 engine. I had the car underinsured (hadn't upped the insured value after I had the engine installed), have multiple folks from car shows who are willing to state that the car was worth 35K, I had it insured to 25. I sold the "carcass" for $4500 (I had bought it back from Hagerty for $250). all I was looking for from R&L was the $5500 I was out from the loss. Instead I get called a lier, get my integrity brought into question and get my ex wife accused of arson. Think LONG & HARD before you do business with these people....... Oh, and let's see how long it takes them to get this review removed and have the police come visit me (again).
