Im a complicated girl; i want a little island oasis but i still want to be surrounded by buildings. Is that too much to ask for?
Apparently not, since this place actually exists :)
This rooftop garden is small but its somewhere to take a nice little break from the "big city" that is downtown Honolulu. Its located in the financial building next to the University of Phoenix building (theyre attached so you can actually walk through the University of Phoenix building to get to this specific building). There are elevators between the security desk and the fitness center (that has stairs that go downstairs). Be careful not to get confused! Theres another set of elevators that are next to another entrance to the fitness center, but there isnt a security desk there. Plus, the elevators that lead to the garden dont have such a fancy hallway as the other one.
I got a little lost, but was able to ask the security guard where to go. The park IS open to the public, so dont fret about being a trespasser :] She directed me to take the elevator to the 6th floor, then walk up a few small flights of stairs, which would lead primarily to the garden. Dont be alarmed if you happen to see the parking garage when you get off the elevator; thatll just ensure that youre on the right track.
The garden is small but pretty. There's a small boardwalk that leads you to a couple of covered benches with ash trays, as well as an area that is a little more open with grass. There are a few palm trees, as well as a round tree with a small stone wall underneath it. This small little getaway is generally pretty quiet, with only a few people out here and there to take either a smoke break or have a little conversation.
This rooftop garden was so nice, in fact, we ended up taking a friend's maternity photos here :) read more
