I decided to get a rook piercing and found Honolulu Piercing Company on Yelp back when they were still located in Waikiki. I didn't have an appointment, but they were able to take me as a walk-in, which I really appreciated. I was extremely nervous, but my piercer immediately put me at ease and took the time to answer all of my questions. Honestly, choosing the type of bar for the piercing took longer than the actual piercing itself. The rook didn't hurt at all and it was over very quickly. Fast forward about six months later, everything was fully healed when the ball on the end of my piercing fell off. I couldn't get it back in on my own, so I drove back to Waikiki. They helped me right away, no questions asked. I'm also really happy they moved to Kaimukī. The new location is much easier for me to get to and the parking situation is way better. I booked a same-day appointment with Mel online, and when I called to let them know I'd be a little late due to traffic, they were super understanding. Onyx was incredibly welcoming and helpful, guiding me through my options and helping me pick out my first piece of jewelry. I ended up going with the 5mm rose gold hammered disc, and it turned out perfect for my lobe piercing. I was a bit nervous, but Mel explained everything clearly and even joked that plucking a beard hair is worse, which turned out to be true. I barely felt a thing. The shop itself is spotless, located in Kailua with ample parking, which made the whole visit even smoother. Another big plus: Honolulu Piercing Company is APP certified (Association of Professional Piercers) and uses only implant-grade jewelry. The quality and safety of the shop are top tier. The pricing may be a bit on the higher end, depending on what jewelry you get, but for something going into your body, it's 100% worth it. Originally I wanted to go with the real gold piercing option but was convinced that the titanium, painted option would be a better fit. I went with this option, and the jewelry is two different colors. I was aware that the color may fade over time, but in the salon, the colors were different from the start. I mentioned this, he convinced me otherwise, and now looking at it outside of the salon, it is two different colors. On top of this, Tony is rude. He asked if I have stretched my ears before, in regards to my extremely old piercings that are admittedly stretched and somewhat of an insecurity. I told him no not intentionally so, and he followed up with the statement that my earlobe will tear all the way through in 15 years if I keep up with "that shit". He started to pierce my other friend and then brought up my first piercing again, telling me he could pop a gauge in right then, doubling down. So not only was I not happy with the jewelry, but also uncomfortable with the piercing environment that he created. He also went on to complain that women piercers get booked more than him, even though he was more experienced than them, and honestly after this experience I get why. read more

I bought nearly $2,000 of jewelry from this store - great quality, expensive. They installed the jewelry for me. Three piercings on the left year, four on the right ear, and a nose piercing. The problem was a couple weeks later one of the piercings fell out. Luckily it was in my bathroom, otherwise I would have lost a lot of money due to how expensive the jewelry is. They said I could come in and they'd tighten all of them for me so it wouldn't happen again. Cool. I show up and an employee named Mel tightened all the piercings. They didn't charge me anything. She was very nice. Fast forward I need an MRI and they were kind enough to remove all the piercings for me for free. I then returned a week later and they reinstalled the piercings for me with no charge. All of this is great except for one thing. While I was there I would tell the employees how nice Mel was the first time I went in to get my piercings tightened. They all agreed Mel was very nice. I mentioned her when I went in after my piercings fell out, I mentioned her when I went in to get them tightened, I mentioned her when I had them removed for my MRI, and I mentioned her when I went in to finally have the piercings reinstalled. I did this because I like making sure good employees are recognized for their efforts. The problem was on my last visit I was telling the girl who was finishing tightening my piercings that Mel was very nice, to please tell Mel I said thank you - the lady said she would tell Mel. After she was done, I then asked her name so I could leave a review on Yelp to mention Mel and other employees for their help. The woman said her name was Mel. I kinda of stood there confused because if she was Mel why didn't she tell me it was her, that I didn't recognize her, and that she appreciated my in-person compliment? Instead of letting me talk about Mel as if she weren't there when she was the one tightening the piercing? I asked if she was a different Mel or the same Mel I'd been talking about and she said "I'm the only Mel who works here"...I'm like okay, well thank you for all you've done? Like why didn't you tell me you were Mel? I can understand if she wanted to be humble, but it just didn't feel like one of those situations. It felt very weird. There was no followup to any of it, just, I'm Mel. Overall the employees here are nice. They may not tighten your expensive jewelry on right enough the first time so you could lose a lot of money, but if you manage to capture the jewelry after it falls out they will reinstall it for free. If you have a good encounter with Mel and don't recognize her after visiting again she won't let you know it's her apparently. They have a bathroom they'll let you use, I appreciated that since I was pregnant. They didn't clean my jewelry after they removed it from my MRI and then reinstalled it so it smelled weird - that could also be on me that maybe I was supposed to do that so be aware to clean your jewelry if getting it put back in, I don't know why I thought that was something they'd do. Honestly I wanted to write a five star review about liking this place. To say accidents happen, expensive jewelry fell out, they put it back in for free, and an employee didn't make you feel absolutely stupid when trying to pay them a compliment the couple times you returned but here we are. I guess I am annoyed because it should have been a good review and now it's not. The person who installed my jewelry the first time (where one of them fell out) is named Bronson. He was nice, but all of the expensive jewelry should have been tightened properly the first time. read more

First off their new Kaimuki store is GORGEOUS. I love the way they set up their displays it showcases how designer and high end HPC Jewelry can be. The staff is so charming and homely which is the vibe you want to look for if this is your first piercing. The front desk helped me calm down my nerves by engaging in conversation with me. The place is clean and sanitary (it is a brand new store) which is a tell tale sign that they take their cleanliness seriously. Bronson was such a delight to have as my piercer. He made me and my husband feel comfortable and when it was a bit uncomfortable he helped to soothe me. I have yet to see the piercing healed. But I'm so looking forward to getting more by this shop. Yelp brought me here. I was in waikiki for a Yelp event and I knew there's a piercing place nearby so I ended up here! I had my helix pierced before, but it gotten itchy and I removed the stud too soon, next thing I knew the hole closed up. I've always wanted to get it done again but I just never acted on it. Fast forward 7-8 years later, I decided I just had to do it so here I am. Booking an appointment on their website was easy. Walk-ins shouldn't be a problem too if it's during the week I suppose, unless there's a specific person you'd like to have. I chose Bronson after I read some of the reviews and I had a great experience. The place looks clean and it has individual rooms. I was a little nervous because it's my first time getting a piercing by hand. My 3 lobe piercings were all done by a gun, and my old cartilage one was done at Claire's with a gun too. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or I just didn't take care of my piercing well, it got itchy so I removed it and it closed up, so I thought maybe I should do something different and see if it would help. (Hope it will. Will write an update in a few months.) Bronson was gentle and patient to explain what should expect and the aftercare to me. I showed him my old piercing and he saw the scar and marked it with some ink. He handed me a mirror to see if that's where I like to have it. I also asked for his opinion if that's a good spot for helix piercing and he said it looked fine. I lied down and he got into position. After inhaling a big breath he did it very fast on my exhale and it was really just a pinch; my son pinched me harder than this many times by accident lol. After the piercing he put the stud in. My ear started to heat up but that's normal. It was a smooth and easy process. I like how their aftercare instructions are so simple and easy to follow. Bronson also explained to me the downside of using different antibacterial stuff that can cause more harm than good. Stick with water and saline rinse and never touch the piercing for a while! I also like the little card they gave me to take home. It had all the info of the piercing and the healing time. I don't remember Claire's telling me that much info. I think the lack of awareness was also part of the reason why my first piercing got irritated and closed up. I picked the titanium stud from NeoMetal. I looked up the company later and it manufactures implant grade titanium and specializes in jewelry for piercing; that's very assuring. (Excuse my lack of knowledge in body piercing.) The whole process including tax cost around $85 with a big bottle of neilmed saline spray included but not including tip. Overall I'm happy with my experience! I hope it'll heal well this time. Finally took the plunge to get my first ever piercing here! I walked in on a Monday afternoon and there was a bit of a wait for walk-ins. You can also make same day appointments here and they don't ask you for your card details, but just make sure you actually show up. Everyone at the shop is APP certified which really put me at ease. Jade at the counter was so nice and patient with answering all my questions. Mel was my piercer and she was so friendly and really helped calm my nerves. The piercing itself barely hurt at all (like less than when I get my vaccines sometimes) - Mel was so skilled! She also took the time to give great suggestions on placement to make sure that the spot was to my liking. Since I'm not from the area, Mel gave a bunch of great suggestions for piercing studios near me for downsizing in a few weeks. They have a great selection of jewelry here including BVLA. Had my forward helix, conch, nose, and both nipples done at the hikina location. Every experience was fantastic, but Bronson, who pierced my nipples, was outstanding. From being calm when I felt anxious to the actual piercing itself, he was top notch. I expected a 10/10 pain and it was like a 4 or 5 and I truly feel that's because he was skilled and efficient. I called at today noon to check if they could do piercing for my 4.5-year-old. The person on the phone initially said only Tony could do it, but then he said it was okay for us to stop by around 1pm. We drove for 30 minutes (Waikiki traffic and constant road closures). When we finally found parking and walked to the shop, keep in mind I was with my 4-year-old, there was a line. When our turn came The guy told us he couldn't take my daughter because only Tony could do piercings for kids aged 1-4. I asked when Tony would be available, and he said to wait because he was helping three other girls. After 30 minutes of waiting, and with my daughter crying, he made an appointment for the next day... in Kailua instead of Waikiki. I would have to call again trying to figure this out and ended up canceling my appointment. Poor service and bad communication. read more

5 stars for Tony. He was incredible with my little one. We got her years pierced the day after her one year birthday which is the soonest they will do it for good reason. As a father this was hard for me but after talking to friends who had older children this is probably the way to go. Older kids may be more traumatized. For babies, it's definitely not a pleasant experience but they get over it quick. The pain of the piercing itself isn't what they really hate. It's the restraint you as a parent MUST do. Tony went over everything very thoroughly. Being a parent himself, he's wonderful with children and babies. With a baby, it's essential that you as a parent do exactly what he says and securely hold the child very securely. Failure to do that will only extend the process and make it more difficult. We did a lot of research on the company/person to do the job and I'd only recommend Tony at Honolulu Piercing for infants. I absolutely LOVED my experience here at the Honolulu Piercing Company. I visited not once, but TWICE in one night because of the awesome service here. Initially, I came in to purchase smaller plugs due to irritation with my lobes. The person at the register, Jam, was very accommodating and helped me pick out a pair of glass plugs. I was also provided with extra O-rings, alcohol wipes, and sterile lubricant, everything I needed to take care of my ears during my trip in Honolulu. From that experience alone, I knew I had to come back again and get my dream piercing, a rook. My piercer, Lia talked me through everything and was very reassuring given that it was my first time getting a cartilage piercing.
