I was obtaining a referral for an ENT specialist in Reno and was initially referred to a provider…read more Unfortunately, I later discovered that the ENT office no longer accepts Aetna, which created an unexpected setback. As a result, I had to call back a second and third time. Both Lacy and Caitlyn were incredibly patient, caring, and friendly throughout the entire process. They took the time to answer all of my questions, provided the information I needed, and promptly submitted a new referral so I could be seen. Lacy and Caitlyn didn't stop there--they went above and beyond by providing additional resources and helping me explore other options. I truly appreciate their kindness, professionalism, and willingness to help. Thank you both for making what could have been a frustrating experience much easier to navigate!

My family member was placed in an…read moreextremely cramped room with two elderly homeless patients from a shelter who were belligerent, fighting, screaming, and yelling at staff. One used a bedside commode only inches from her bed. The environment was chaotic, frightening, and completely lacking in privacy. After we requested a different room, she was left in a public family waiting room for more than three hours. Basic requests for water and assistance with painful, bloody IVs were repeatedly ignored. Nurse Camille was rude, confrontational, and dismissive of legitimate medical concerns. When we attempted to escalate those concerns, Charge Nurse Grace supported Camille rather than helping us obtain appropriate medical attention. Most disturbing, Grace repeatedly refused and physically blocked our attempts to speak with the House Supervisor. She told us, "He will not come down for this. He is going to follow my leadership." She also responded to our concerns with, "It is what it is." A charge nurse should help patients access the appropriate chain of command--not stand in the way of it. The lack of compassion, professionalism, privacy, and concern for patient safety on this medical-surgical floor was shocking.

This was around 3:30 pm, I ask her if she had something she could give him till dinner came, she said only snacks and that would not be good for him, I ask if she had jello and she said yes, I had to ask her if he could have jello and she said yes and brought him jello. I used the call light to ask if he could have some insulin around 4 pm and I was told his nurse was at lunch and that they check insulin at 4:30 and his nurse would check it at that time. The nurse came in about 4:30 gave 4 units of insulin and a shot to relax his muscles. Dinner came at 5:30. His insulin was down to 248, after dinner it was 277! Still waiting for the nurse, she is waiting on the Dr. to call back to tell her how much insulin to give. All this time we had to call the nurse, she knowing his insulin was way out of control, not once did she check on him! While waiting he ask told the floor nurse he needed to go to the bathroom, he had not be since 11 am and it was now 6 pm. He called the nurse again at 7 pm for help to go to the bathroom!! Really, is this the protocol for a hospital, a patient has to ask after all those hours!! A nurse came in and said I have to check, I don't think you can go till 8 pm!! I am 77, my husband is 81, the care he was given once entering his room was on a scale of 1-10, was a 0. I am very worried about his overnight care or lack of!! Rosemary Young 530.306.1825

What followed was not the provision of medical care consistent with Nevada law or accepted standards of practice, but a sequence of dismissals, misrepresentations, and dangerous prescribing decisions (AGAIN) that placed me, the patient, at risk and violated my rights. 1. Clinical Analysis of the Discharge Record Even though the staff verbally "scoffed" and suggested it was just a 'kidney stone', the After Visit Summary tells a different story: Official Diagnosis: They have officially documented Ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction as a primary diagnosis. This is not a "simple kidney stone"; it is the exact pathology identified at the first ER. Abnormal Lab Results: My urinalysis showed Trace Protein and 1+ Ketones, which indicates my kidneys are under stress. Medication: They administered Ketorolac (Toradol) at 6:32 PM. Toradol is an NSAID that can be hard on the kidneys; given my history of kidney failure, this needs to be monitored closely. Breach of the Standard of Care: This occurs when a provider fails to provide the level of care a competent professional would. (e.g., dismissing an acute UPJ obstruction as "chronic pain" without new imaging). Failure to Diagnose / Delay in Diagnosis: The refusal by SMRMC to perform a new CT or MRI despite worsening lab markers (Protein/Ketones) and a 1.9 cm lesion. Patient Abandonment/Violation of Rights: Repeated requests for a Patient Advocate were denied, and call buttons were ignored. I WILL ADD THIS TO MY ON-GOING CASE, PICTURED BELOW AND THE COMPARISONS OF BOTH EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT FALIURES.

NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)…read more I now have experience with almost two dozen families that have expanded or began their brood at Saint Mary's labour and delivery department. Amazingly, they all sing praises to the doctors and RN's on that floor. I also know that the more complicated obstetrics cases are sent here. Sometimes via helicopter, if necessary!!! Wow! Sometimes things don't always turn out as easy as ABC. Due to pre-existing conditions or complications some babies need a little help after they're born. Enter the Neonatal Intensive Care team at Saint Mary's. The knowledgeable doctors and incredibly caring nurses at Saint Mary's are the best when baby is in duress. There is picture after picture on the walls of many of these babies and how big and healthy they are today. Miracle workers might be too strong a word. I don't think so. I recommended a neighbor use Saint Mary doctors and facilities. Her little girl ended up 6 weeks premature and so sickly they didn't expect her to live. I can't tell you what these women did, but right now that same little girl is turning cartwheels in the park by my house! I'm sold.
