At just before 4pm the shop is still full of stock. This used to be a village bakery that locsls used. It is now a shop that is out of touch with local need. The pricing of packs is deceptive, and no clear pricing for packets of items. Not sure Warrens will be in Braunyon much longer due to price mark ups and deceptive pricing

Warren's is not in the best location, with a narrow pavement outside not leaving enough room for two pushchairs to pass each other. There must be some way to give a little more space to the pedestrian and a little less to the car in this part of Braunton. As for the cakes the photo says it all. Too many cakes and not enought time

Personally I prefer empanadas, but Barnecutt makes pretty darn delicious pasties with variety of fillings. According to my sister, it's supposedly the best local pasty shop. Barnecutt's is a great bakery serving a variety of hot food, bread and cakes, but what I really love is the pizza. For £1.50 you can get a decent sized slice of hot pizza. There's tomato, cheese & pineapple, pepperoni and vegetarian to choose from, all delicious. The base is really thick, sauce full of flavour and they don't skimp on the cheese. I cannot fault it. My only complaint is that you can't buy full pizzas. Like a lot of their hot snacks, they are served to you in a 3 sided box for easy street-eating and then wrapped in a paper bag. The staff are friendly and everything is well made, super tasty and good value for money. A word of warning for anyone hoping to visit the Liskeard bakery: get in quick before the lunch time rush or you might miss out on the good stuff! There aren't enough bakeries like this left in the UK and we need to support those we have left!

The chicken version also has leeks, while the beef seems to contain a root vegetable, either turnip or Swede, maybe? Regardless, they are both delicious. A friend tried the lamb and mint, reporting lovely flavor, but a bit of chewiness to the sparse meat tidbits, The Chough's treacle tart is very tasty, with bright flashes of lemon zest here and there to lighten the molasses top notes and sugary richness before it becomes overwhelming. The Bakewell tart is also very nice though it uses sliced almonds instead of the more traditional almond paste, which isn't to everyone's taste. Finally, we took some of the scones home to eat with piles of jam and clotted cream, and they proved up to the task, though otherwise unremarkable as scones always are.
