The ortho doctor I saw several times for this problem first injected cortisone into the shoulder which, when I awoke the next day, caused the worst pain I had experienced since the onset of my problem. Subsequent visits with the ortho guy and a MRI outlined my only option to be surgery even though the ortho guy was uncertain exactly what would be found during surgery. Being that I had arthroscopic surgery on the left should several years ago with this ortho doctor and have never felt 100% healed, I opted to try an alternative method of treatment. Jim and Valley Acupuncture came recommended to me by my masseuse so I thought...why not? I saw Jim each week for several weeks and then bi-weekly for another few weeks from March to May of 2014. I am happy to say that while I am not completely and totally pain free, I am as close to it as I believe will be possible given my activities and my age (late 50's). Prior to seeing Jim, I woke many times during the night with tingling and a heaviness that caused severe pain in my right arm. Since being treated by Jim, my nights are free of pain and free of the heavy feeling that I experienced prior to my visit to Valley Acupuncture. Jim is professional and personable and truly cares about his patients and their well being. Valley Acupuncture will be my first stop when I need to see a health care professional for any and all arm, shoulder and back issues. I expect Jim is equally qualified to treat other maladies and will use him in the future as the valuable resource that he is.

I decided to check out this place on a whim at the request of a couple of friends. It wasn't…read moredifficult to find and as soon as I stepped through the door I felt welcomed. I browsed over the yoga products, hoops, buddhas and jewelry. They actually had a very nice selection. Then one of the employees, Greg, gave me a tour of the place. He showed me the yoga studio; the meditation room, which was a dimly lit room with floor pillows all around with the sound of peaceful meditational music playing softly; the study, which was a room with floor seats and floor tables, a couple of bookshelves to read the works of Carlos Castaneda, Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, (to name a few) and books on Feng Shui; and last, but certainly not least, the Amethyst Biomat room, which looked like a a massage room. This I tried. I had to lie down on the biomat for about 25 minutes and just meditate by myself. The mat is filled with Amethyst crystals The mat felt warm while I was in this dimly lit room diffused with essential oils. Everywhere I looked there was something positive. The Himalayan salt crystal...The white sage...The dream catcher on the door... Totally awesome relaxing experience! I left feeling very calm and peaceful. Definitely will be back.

5 years ago I had a snowboarding accident that basically tore apart my shoulder. Since that time, I…read morehave gone through two repair operations and undergone 3+ years of physical therapy. As a resident of Chicago, I made sure I had treatment at Chicago's best: Northwestern, then Rush (same surgeon to perform Derrick Rose's knee operation). The end result was a recommendation to have a shoulder replacement, but given my age (30) I needed to get by for several more years before proceeding with that operation. Thus I continued "maintenance" physical therapy at Rush. During that time my close friend, Dr. Deniz, began persuading me to give him a shot. I was stubborn, and refused for a very long time. Finally I gave in and although I felt like I was "cheating" on my Physical Therapist I gave him a try. During my first appointment he did push my thresholds, and I was sore. However, being a former athlete I'm well aware of "no pain, no gain". Once the initial soreness subsided a few hours later, I almost instantly noticed my range of motion had improved. The following day, I went to my regular appointment at Rush and even my Physical Therapist began to ask me what changed or what I had done differently that week. She was impressed to say the least. After just 1 appointment, I made a very easy decision and decided to switch to Dr. Deniz and have been going to him since. Geneva is a considerable drive, and seems like a silly distance to travel considering I live in the West Loop of Chicago, a few blocks from Rush Hospital.
