I can't believe I haven't already yelped Homobiles on-time, entertaining and reasonably priced community car service. I had Homobiles pick up my cosmopolitan niece and her sweet friend who had never left the Midwest, when they visited San Francisco on their summer break from college. They got picked up right on time and Homobiles kept me in the loop so I knew when they were safely ensconced and when they would be dropped off. On the way, my insouciant houseguests asked their driver, Lynn Breedlove, about the 'homo' in Homobiles. Being the owner and founder of Homobiles as well as a queer cultural icon, Lynn gave my niece and her friend a colorful, entertaining, insider's romp through queer history on their way to my home. They arrived un-phased by Friday rush-hour traffic through the thick of San Francisco and Bay Bridge. Safe, efficient, student-priced with a stand-up history lesson en route. Living in The Presidio of San Francisco is the best of both worlds. I have the peace, quiet, and beautiful nature along with sounds of the waves, yet I am only 3.9 miles from my job in the Union Square/Financial District. The one downside is getting home when I have been working my odd hours so it was to much relief when I was told about Homobiles from a co-worker and former driver of the 24/7 queer ride service. I simply text the phone number with pickup address, drop off address, and asked for an ETA. I was impressed that not only did I get a text back almost immediately and the text told me my wait would be less than 15 minutes. No need to wait outside they would text me when my driver arrived. A very kind man by the name of Val picked me up and we had a great conversation on the way home. I love that this is a suggested donation service as we all have those times in life where we are in a jam. I just hope people don't take advantage of it. I have no problem with giving my hard earned money to such a great innovative idea that helps build and keep community for our community. Homobiles is just awesome! The first time I had called them, I didn't have any cash on me for a ride from 16th St. in the Mission to Bernal Heights and she didn't have a card machine. She could have driven me to the closest ATM to get cash, but she simply told me "don't worry about it, I'm just giving you a lift." I still feel bad about not being able to pay, but she was incredibly nice about it. For $30, they will also drive you to the airport and provide friendly conversation on the way. Since they're still pretty small, there have been times when they didn't have any drivers available on Friday/Saturday nights. However, they at least have the courtesy to tell you straight off the bat rather than telling you they'll be there in 20 min. and never showing up (I'm talking about you, Yellow Cab and DeSoto). read more

Homobiles is not simply a ride-share services like SideCar or Lyft, it's definitely more than a taxi services, at it's least it's a community service, at it's best it's saving lives. I go to many doctors appointments, from Kaiser to Ward 86 and after many of them I want to just curl up into a ball and cry. But not after a ride from Homobiles. There is strength in community and beauty in sharing a common experience with someone who empathizes in the deepest sense. Homobiles drivers do just that, they understand what it takes to get out of bed for some of us and they are there to led a hand in one of the few ways they can, by offering rides. I have heard a lot of good things about Homobiles. After being disappointed by Yellow Cab and Luxor, I put Homobile's number in my phone. I texted them on two different occasions when I was out and needed a cab home...to their credit, those were busy nights (weekends) and the morning of the SF marathon. On those occasions, they texted me back promptly and said they were not available. I appreciate that, given that I think most cab companies will not tell you no, so you're left assuming a cab will show up for you...and then 45 minutes later, you're still waiting because they're not going to show up. I really liked getting a real response and I also like that you can text them. Last night I took a cab home because it was late on a Thursday night and I figured a regular cab company would probably be too busy to come pick me up. I was considering taking the bus to my house on the other side of town, but I didn't want to walk through the not-so-nice part of the Mission at midnight by myself and then stand at a bus stop alone. My friend texted Homobile for me since you seem to get a better response time if you've used them numerous times and they know your number (this is what I was told...not sure if it is true). I waited about 15 minutes or so for my cab...not bad at all. I was impressed! Awesome service! read more

I am SO glad I found these guys! I'm never using another car service again. They're cheap, friendly, absurdly prompt, and my driver was fun, friendly & had a pretty fabulous music selection. Another bonus is that I will never again feel uneasy about finding a ride home from a late-night club while wearing full bondage regalia. Oh my God homobiles, I love you. Not only do you answer, you're punctual, honest, and treat me right. The worst thing I've experienced is a flat out denial if they're too busy (which is honest! and I can figure out what else to do instead of sitting on my laurals after being lied to about how long I should expect to wait) which is rather rare. I only wish that I was always sober enough to remember that this is an option. I'd much rather give these boys and girls my money than any other taxi service in the city. Greatest service ever. This non-profit organization helps out the gay community. The drivers are all volunteers and are super nice. My experience from texting them my location and talking to the operator to actually riding the homoshuttle was amazing! They completely work off donations (cash only) and if you don't have that much money or none at all. They don't mind. It's all about keeping people safe. After dropping off my friends and I at our hotel our other friend was planning to walk by to her apartment. (This was at 1am). The driver insisted that she shouldn't walk home. My friend she had no money and the driver didn't mind and was still willing to give her a ride. SUPER GREAT! Help them out and by using homobile and avoiding using cab service! read more

Since I've never been able to get a hold of the Disco Cab, Homobiles sounded like the next most colorful & rockinoutest late-night ride. Plus, my jury's still out about being seen in those pink sanchez cars. It was way simple - text their # with my address & name, get a text confirmation, then wait for the car. No apps or anything needed. My driver & I chatted it up while she told me some of her hot mess ride stories. I was partying it up last night at the DNA lounge, and when it came time to get some sleep, all the regular cab companies were unreachable. I had a flyer they'd dropped off at my work, so I texted. They arrived within 5 minutes, the car was clean and in good shape, and off we went. Very friendly but not invasive (like some cab drivers I could mention), and got me home nice and fast. I texted them around 7:30pm on a Sat night, and got a response of "checking" right away, within 30 mins, they texted me "10 pm we will serve you from A to B, " the friendly driver showed up 4 mins late but he texted me to let me know. I love Homobiles! I have a weekly recurring ride to work and back I work at a gay bar in the middle of the night and get out right as the bar rush takes up all the taxis. Your best bet on getting a ride is to pre-book, which means texting them at least an hour in advance of when you want to get picked up. You can prebook WAY in advance, too! Especially if you're going to the Airport, you should pre book when you have your flight planned, just like a Super Shuttle. The drivers are friendly, non-judgmental, and happy to help. read more

I spoke with an incredibly friendly driver outside of the Lexington Club and snagged a business card. They prefer to be contacted by text at the number above. 24/7 service at a rate of $1 a minute. These guys are the BEST!!! You text them what you need, they get right back to you, text you when they get to your location (BOTH times I've used them, they arrived EARLY!!) their car is so clean, great music on the radio, nice, friendly driver (he was pretty hot, too!), and the cab fare is a "donation" that's like a dollar a mile. Of course, you should give them more money for a tip since the cost is ridiculously low. Any time I need a ride somewhere, I'm texting Homobiles!! I arrived in San Francisco for Outside Lands last month. My friend, Jiz Lee, who is a queer sex worker, recommended Homobiles to me and I was very excited to try it out. I first found out that I was running late to the festival to catch Nine Inch Nails. I called them, they arrived in under 10 minutes, and our first driver was wonderful. He was talkative, let me charge my phone, asked if I wanted to change the music, and was nothing but kind to my friend and I. I ended up giving him 10 bucks. I then needed a ride back after the festival. They remembered me, got to the park quickly despite the traffic, and even though I didn't have any money, they didn't mind. The next day, they were so busy driving others to the festival so I couldn't get anyone to come get me. Lynnee spent over an hour trying to find a ride for me and was so apologetic when he couldn't. That night, I lost both of my shoes at the festival and was crying in pain because of my feet. Texted Homobiles once again, told them I was in pain, and Lynnee got to work and urged someone to take me quickly. My ride came within 20 minutes and he got out of the cab and came to walk me back over to the car since he knew how much pain I was in. We ended up having a long discussion over music and I had a great time with that driver (Michael?). Overall, I couldn't have been happier with this service and they saved me so much time and effort during my short time in San Francisco. As a queer 15 year old girl who sometimes doesn't feel as safe as I should in the city, they've saved the day. I'm so thankful for them and I can't wait to use the service again. I've since stopped using this service, but I encounter quite a few former Homobiles passengers who all say the same. They are hard to get a hold of and most useful when there's tons of time to wait around for them to get there. They do provide the community a great service when they show up, but that if makes it hard to rely on. They really need to get an app, and they'd be hand over fist better if they ever get one. read more

"Moes Gettin Hoes Where They Needz 2 Goes" Visiting SF. Needed to pack my sisters into a car to take them to BART in pouring rain. Yelped. "SF Car Service." Homobiles? Heck yes. Friendly dispatcher. Car arrived quickly. Packed my sisters off and away they went. Cheaper than a cab, better smelling, and much much friendlier. OK, Homobiles. That was a good first impression. But can you repeat it? At the end of our visit, my girlfriend and I wanted to give Homobiles another go - this time to SFO. Being a "planner," I texted Homobiles in the morning with our location and desired pickup time. Received a prompt reply (with a smiley face) assuring me that we would be picked up. And picked up we were - on time - by Shani, who also happened to be the evening's Homobiles dispatcher (dazzling display of multitasking). Shani was an abso-freaking-lute delight to have as a driver. (Ask her about how much she loves Boston.) She got us to the airport quickly, safely, and comfortably. And at a truly reasonable rate. Homobiles was started by Lynn Breedlove as a response to reports of violence and other discriminatory acts against women/queers perpetrated by cab drivers. Everyone should have the right to get around safely. And Homobiles is helping to make that right a reality. Within a minute they reply with their estimated ETA - and suddenly you realize this is a different kind of service. They are nearly always only 5-15 minutes away AND they actually show up when they say they will. You get into one of their privately owned cars with one of their fabulous gracious drivers. The drivers are the best - each and every one has his or her unique style. They are all queer or queer friendly. They get you where you need to go using GPS in most cars and then you arrive and they ask you for a donation that is typically about 25-33% less than Yellow Cab. USE THIS SERVICE! These people really rock....I called on Christmas Eve 2013 and Christmas Day...and got the same person who was very awesome.....Her name was Kim and she was a sweetheart. She picked me up at the Powerhouse, and drove me home. we had a nice conversation while traveling. i give her a big thumbs up... I will also say that being on the HIV Health Care Planning Council. I know that several of the individuals that use them and have always heard nothing but very good comments about them. Maybe it should be brought up to the Council about seeing about if some kind of agreement can be done with Homobile and the Council about rides for the individuals. read more

So I don't know about the few bad reviews (all involving pre-scheduled, pre-6 AM pick-ups, for some reason??).... what I do know is that, as a gay man (I think I'm part of the homobile mission?) it's nearly impossible most nights to catch a cab from Soma home to the Castro. Empty cabs turn their lights off as they drive through the middle of Folsom (surely this is some sort of homophobia?). Homobile is a great option to get home when the other cab companies would rather not bother. Not going from Cat Club home to the Marina? Sorry! Anyway, each time I've used them (always a Saturday night, Soma to Castro), they have been quick and respectable (review for a later time - the few cabs that stop to take you Soma to Castro, with drivers who drop hints that they are expecting sexual favors). If I ever take a yellow, orange, or green cab again, it will be because I forgot to make homobile arrangements in advance. Homobiles is unlike any other cab service; They provide a welcoming and safe atmosphere to the GLBT community and their allies. This non-profit organization is staffed with volunteer drivers, and the fee is a suggested donation of a dollar per minute (and unless you're homeless or otherwise seriously impoverished, please pay at least that plus tip. This is a good service and needs to stay around). Our driver arrived at exactly 7pm on a Saturday night, and we had a blast chatting with her on the way to our company party. Homobiles came to my rescue big time. My van broke down and I needed to get to an auto parts store, have them wait, and then get back to my truck to do the repair. This wasn't a neighborhood where I wanted to leave my van sitting broken for a long time. One text to Homobiles, and my ride was there within 10 minutes, driven by none other than Lynnee Breedlove, the founder and genius behind it all. Less than 20 minutes later I was back at my van with the part I needed to be back up on the road. Lynnee even offered to stand by in case I needed another part or anything. Short version: scheduled 5:00am pickup to SFO, 4:58am arrives, after calls back and forth, they would come at 5:40am, but they were apologetic and admitted their mistake. Longer version: reviews for most companies were very spotty, mostly hit or miss, except the really pricey options that go for $50 from where I was (9th and Noriega) to SFO. Found Homobiles with great ratings and only one bad experience (out of many positives), also like mine of missing the scheduled time. But they quoted me $30 so I was hoping they'll come through. the dispatcher was friendly (they remember your name) and tried to make it work, but bottom line was when I called at 4:58am he said he messed up and forgot about it, and would call me back. So I called the list of 3 other companies I had as backup and one of them came in 10 minutes, hopped on and made my flight. On the way there in the other car, at 5:20 Homobiles calls back and said he'll be there in 20 minutes. I told them I called another company and he was very apologetic about it. Because of their honesty and service I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1, although nearly missing my flight is always stressful. If you do use them for early pickup, make sure you have backup. read more
