I purchased a truck from this location which I would never do again. From day one it has been…read morenothing but a headache. Truck died on me at a job side 3 days after the purchase. I called Steve Cockrell for help because the extended warranty I purchased it didn't seem to be in the system and they couldn't help me. After almost four days of back and forth I was able to get it checked in at the Costa Mesa ryder shop. They kept it for 10 days, I called every day and the problem couldn't be fixed. Keep in mind I am paying for a rental every day while it's in the shop. I got the truck back after 10 days and IT DIED AGAIN! This is by the worse experience I have ever had with ryder. They still have the truck in the shop today makes it a 12th day. Do yourself a favor a shop trucks else where. Ryder it is not the right place for your used trucking needs.

So i was happy with that. The frustration comes from poor communication and reliability. It started when my box was shipped to a different city than original city I had requested for. The change occurred without me being notified or asked about it. As soon as I noticed it they told me it cant be changed because something about how one location doesn't keep the box there whereas some do. I mean thats fine but a heads up or communication ahead of time would be nice for one to prepare. I personally called this location multiple times to access my box and was not able to get a hold of anyone. It was extremely frustrating and I just ended up having to drive there to figure it out. When i got there i was asked did i call before coming to let them know i was coming. Um yes several times but no one answers the phone. Moving sucks in general but i was really frustrated with the lack of responsiveness and communication throughout this process.

He is super easy-going, knowledgeable, and helpful every step of the way. He showed me all the trucks that I was interested in, gave me the whole walk-through, and gave me very helpful suggestions. I originally wanted to rent a trailer, but found out that my car doesn't have the correct hitch. Jacob suggested the medium size truck because it comes with a built-in ramp so that I can roll the treadmill in instead of lifting it up. This ended up saving me because the treadmill was so heavy. I ordered it online an hour before we needed it and he was ready for us when we showed up. He was so helpful filling out the paperwork and advising us on how to avoid excessive fees that U-Haul apparently is famous for, and got us quickly into a brand new, oversized van for exactly the same price as the smaller, older ones. He had such an upbeat attitude, what is not to love here? Do not be wary that the business is not a corporate U-Haul dealership, especially because, from the outside, it looks deceptively dark and iffy. This small business owner wears many hats, including his smoke shop and gift items. Hence the official name, Smoke and Gift shop. You will see the large sign on the outside of his shop, plus a smaller U-Haul sign posted in his window. There are small number of trucks parked in the parking lot. He really knew how to make this customer happy and make us laugh. I would recommend him in a heartbeat.

Thankfully they made it right and switched our reservation to this Uhaul in Upland. It is in a smoke shop which was open on a Sunday until 12pm. Man that is the owner of super kind. Note that you don't go inside the front of the store. Park at the back of the strip mall. Pick up and drop off. Most of it is done on the uhaul app. Also, get a bigger truck so you don't have to do 2 loads like we did!
