I can live with that since I order an extra cheese dip anyway, but I'm the only person in my family that will eat there. Everyone else refuses because of the excessive amount of seasoning in the taco meat. There is so much seasoning that the meat is almost black and it overwhelms the dish. We thought it might be a one-off thing but it has been like eating a spoonful of straight seasoning every time we have ordered anything with ground beef. We have tried asking for less seasoning but the waiter did not seem to understand what we were saying and it came out as bad as ever. What finally sealed the deal for everyone else is one person ordered a shrimp dish while the other three were chicken. Thankfully the person with the shellfish allergy saw the random shrimp in her chicken plate before she took a bite. That carelessness would have landed her in the ER. As someone else said, the pricing is inconsistent also. I get the exact same thing every time and it is rarely the same price when I pay. We don't eat at the restaurant due to the dining area smelling very strongly of cleaner. I still order out from time to time since it is one of the few local places but they could do so much better.

The owner is friendly and kind, he went out of his way to make me feel welcomed. A simple concise menu with sandwiches, burgers and such. I ordered a grilled chicken breast sando with fries and a lemonade. The sandwich was okay, made to order and served its purpose. The fries also good. The lemonade was okay too. 3.5 Stars rounded up for the kind owner 01299

A friend and I recently ate lunch here together. It's a great soul food restaurant, located in the…read moretype of neighborhood that I'm only comfortable frequenting during the daylight hours. On this day of the week (Wednesday), the restaurant featured their fried chicken. A local resident had strongly and repeatedly recommended Mae's food. My friend and I both ordered the fried chicken. I'm sure glad that I did! It was perfectly breaded, seasoned, and cooked. We were given our choice of cut, and we both chose chicken breasts. It was nicely-sized and fresh. I would definitely recommend it, and I would order it again. For side items, the collard greens, sweet potatoes, and blackeye(d) peas were all delicious and properly prepared. I ate every last bit, especially since the portion sizes were a bit too small. I would suppose that tiny portions dramatically reduce food waste. The square of cornbread was quite welcomed. I had also heard that Mae's cooks up some delicious pork chops (on Thursdays) and meatloaf (some Fridays). I look forward to trying those as well. The building doesn't have central air conditioning, but rather a series of window units. During the height of summer, it can get uncomfortably hot inside the restaurant, so they do a lot of take out business. If you want to eat inside, be sure to pick a cool/cloudy day. Also, the parking situation is a bit chaotic, with no designated spaces marked out. It's kind of a free-for-all. The safest bet is to backup into an open spot, just for better visibility when you leave. I made the mistake of parking head-in. It took me forever to back out. The street that runs in front of the restaurant is full of fast and careless drivers. Be sure to take some cash with you, because this place doesn't accept any credit or debit cards.

The ribs were flavorful, and the pulled pork was just as good. You could taste the seasoning without it overpowering the meat. Living in Texas now, I've had plenty of BBQ, and I'm just going to say it: this was better than Texas BBQ any day! It was such a treat to have some brought to me for my birthday, and it definitely did not disappoint. Good BBQ, great flavor, and seasoned the way BBQ is supposed to be.

We ordered the veg pizza and the a meat combo pizza - imagine yourself giving your 9 years old child a permission to invent a pizza and just make it . That was the quality and taste . This was not a pizza - it made me want to get even a little Caesar's 5$ pizza instead - it was that bad. We also ordered mozzarella sticks but those never made it to the table (person at the counter : " oh sorry I completely forgot about them") It probably took 20-25 mins for these 2 "pizzas" to come to our table , god only knows what the staff were working on - certainly not on making a good-tasting pizza.. My advise is to keep on looking for other options for a late , middle-of-nowhere dinner .
