I can't say that I imagined myself Yelping about garbage pickup, but, hey, when you find good people doing a good job, it's only fair to give them a shout out. My daughter was moving out of her college rental and somehow we found ourselves with a lot of trash on our hands, including a Barcalounger kind of chair that only a college kid could love, but that I wasn't about to haul into any kind of storage except the permanent kind. I Googled trash removal, found Hometown Disposal, saw they had a couple of flattering reviews and gave them a call. Jo, who answered, was not only friendly and helpful on my first call, she called me back to clarify something and then called me back again to confirm the pickup and make sure we put everything in the right place on the right day. The charge for picking up the dozen bags of garbage was $30 with $25 more for the chair. Seemed reasonable to me. As would only happen near a college campus, the chair and a few bags that apparently looked promising were taken a day earlier by trash pickers. My daughter and I were long gone, though, and the only reason I found out about it was that Jo called me to tell me that I would be getting a refund of $35. Now, she knew I lived in New Jersey and I told her we were going to be gone when they picked up the trash, so there was no reason for them to call me and tell me, except they're honorable people. Do not recommend, others offer better quality service for similar pricing - just shop around. They skip routes and make excuses. They say they'll come back to pick up and show up days after their commitment. They include a surcharge due to "fuel prices" which may eventually go away, according to customer service. So, they charge additional fees, raise rates, but don't honor their end of the contract in providing quality service. This company will ultimately end up having to reduce rates to nothing and sell to another servicer because they will lose to many customers. Whoever purchased Hometwon has driven this company right into the garbage dump. Well done. read more

Hands-down worst company I have ever dealt with. They had a regular practice of not picking up trash. I patiently dealt with it for several years and it happened so many times that I lost count. It would happen on average about once every 2 months. This was not due to holiday schedules. It got to the point that when I put the trash out, I had no idea if it would be picked up or not. I finally had enough when they didn't collect trash for 2 weeks straight. No holiday, no communication, I even left it out an extra day each time just in case they came around. This was the 2nd time they skipped 2 weeks in a row, the same happened a year earlier. After that, I cancelled service and found another local company to pick up what was at that point 3 weeks of trash. I called to cancel and explained the situation and why I wouldn't pay the final invoice. The lady I spoke with did everything she could to lay blame on me and try to charge me for service that they didn't provide. She even tried to claim they have cameras on all their trucks - implying they could prove I was lying. Even though they didn't provide service, she said they were billing me anyway and if I didn't pay it would go to collections. I've gotten several bills for that invoice since, and have explained to their collections dept twice why I won't pay for services they didn't provide. But they keep trying. I would recommend never using this company. And if you have service with them, to cancel. Their service is terrible, their customer service is terrible and their prices are far higher than local competitors. Do yourself a favor and don't get involved with these people. read more

They continually forget to pick up trash. You can't connect to them on the phone. They don't respond to texts.

1) high priced for minimal services 2) only conpany that offers recycling but can't have recycling without waste pickup. 3) no idea when holiday monday pickups will be. 4) the website is difficult to use to make payments. read more

They have doubled prices since Covid. They didn't charge a fuel surcharge for the longest time, and now it's at least 13.00 and has been as high as 16.00! It's cheaper to use another company. The base price may be a couple dollars less, but the added fuel charges make it more! read more

They used to be so reliable. I don't know what has happened with this company but they just don't show up. Supposed to come weekly, we're lucky if they come once a month. Billing is a nightmare. They seem to just pull an amount out of the air. Done with Hometown Disposal. read more

Ok. They suck. 0/10. We paid quarterly for garbage removal every Friday. Out of the whole quarter, our garbage has been picked up FOUR TIMES! They don't call to let us know, they just don't show up. We have called multiple times and the issue is never resolved. I definitely don't recommend, unless you want weeks of garbage piled up in front of your house. Not sure how they're still in business. read more

DONT DO IT. They take your money (even late fees when it is automatically withdrawn by them from the bank) and refuse to get your trash. They actually drove past me holding my infant son without taking my recycling. These people promise credits when they ignore your service and they never happen either. HORRIBLE read more

We paid for the service for several months without them taking ANY trash. We've been taking our own trash to the dump. They told us they'd get it the following week, I watched them skip our trash at 7am. They literally walked over and looked at it and moved on. I wouldn't waste your money here and pick someone else. read more

Today's recycling changes are a joke... we're going from 2x pickup a month to just once. Hometown offered a free second bin (because who doesn't want to store a second 96 gallon bin at their home?!) but no price concession. Rejected the second bin, but still no price concession. The investment by the company is obviously less in fuel and labor charges AND they profit from the selling of recyclable materials to boot! Fuel surcharge still present even with the HUGE drop in fuel prices over the past year. Very disappointing - will be shopping around for different options. read more

Superb, reliable service, and offering single-stream recycling in a very non-recycling-minded location. It's good to support the local guys, and the prices are fair. They take excellent care of us, are courteous drivers and even replaced the lid on my trashcan when 'the other guys' just let it lay on the ground after picking up my trash...that level of attention is what made me switch 4 years ago, and I've never regretted it. I enlisted their services in a by-weekly schedule starting in January and paid their fee upfront. They were to pick up on a bi-weekly schedule. They picked up one time in January, one time in February and one time in March. They did not reschedule pick up but told me that because of inclement weather they could not pick up and or times to make up of failed pick-ups. But they charged me for the failed pick-ups and was told that do not credit for non pickups. Seems kind of ironic that a business of their reputation would not service their customers to the fullest and not charge for no service. I have had hometown for about 2 years now. I originally signed up for one can pick up. about three months later i called and upped that to a two-can pick up (which they still have me listed as one can and for some reason keep overcharging me and refusing to fix it). When we moved to our new home about 9 months ago, I added the recycling bin. For about 6-8 months now, I have been being overcharged because I am not listed on the correct plan, no matter how many times i call to have it fixed. The route that my house is on must be one that is commonly forgotten because there has been about 6 or 7 times that my trash was just not taken. At all. Sat out for a week, just about, each time, and still - no one came..Not until i called 2 or 3 times to find out what was going on, but by this time my husband and I had already made dump runs and had to pay extra to have the municipal authority allow us to dump our trash. I was overcharged by $30 on my last bill, so they removed that overage - due to their mistake - and I ended up only having to pay the normal amount....here we are a couple of months later and I am getting a delinquent bill notice that I now owe them that $30. I called to speak to someone about it, AGAIN, the other day and as I am telling this woman about my situation and why I am not supposed to be charged this $30 amount, she tells me that it was taken care of, even though my new bill clearly stated it was included in my new bill amount. She refused to listen to me, argued and ignore what I was trying to politely explain to her, and then she hung up on me!! At that point I was done. Months and Months of this BS gets old. very poor customer service I got cut off because of a computer malfunction. when I called to address the problem they told me I owed 9.58 which should have been put on my next months bill. the owner frank is a asshole.
