I have the privilege of knowing Anastasia personally, and I can say without hesitation that her baked goods are the best I've ever had... It's no wonder she graduated at the top of her class from Paul Smiths College. Especially noteworthy are the lemon pound cake, fruit tartlets, and cinnamon buns. She is also an insanely talented cake decorator and pulls out all the stops to make sure her customers are happy. While her bakery will be temporary closed while she is starting her family, I have no doubt her business will continue to thrive when she returns.

Knocked on the window to ask what time they closed, and the young girl working (high school) said "9:00". I looked at her a bit puzzled and said it wasn't 9:00 yet. She responded by saying "a lot of the workers are in high school, and we start closing before 9:00 so we can get out of here." I kindly but with a bit of frustration explained that's not how business hours work, and that I felt it was poor customer service. She looked at me like I had three heads, said "OK thank you" and closed the window. The woman sitting eating her ice cream looked at me and shook her head. I shook my head in agreement and walked to Stewart's where the girl working served me with no attitude and a smile.

We had so many compliments on our cake and cupcakes, especially from our immediate families from Long Island/NYC, and they were very surprised we found such high quality baking up north - but Nancy is from Queens so she knows what she is doing! On this particular occasion I made it right around 11:30 am and I only had 4 people in front of me in line. The bakery is run by the same two people day in and day out, Rob and Anna. They can come off a bit standoffish at first but nothing could be further from the truth. Rob spoke to all 4 people ahead of me and even knew some of them by name and things going on in their lives. On this visit I had a cup of Chicken Gumbo and a Turkey Sandwich. The Gumbo was full of sausage and veggies and had a nice flavour to it. The sandwiches however really are the star of the show here as Chuck pointed out. The bread was so fresh it was still warm. And the turkey piled about 3 inches thick. I opted to add cheddar cheese for the bargain price of $0.50 bringing the price to $6 for the soup and sandwich. An unbelievable bargain! Not only would I recommend Riley's bakery but would consider it a necessary stop if you visit Cornwall. You won't be disappointed.
