A friend bought a car here, a 20 yr old car with over 200k miles for $4,000. She brought me here to…read moresee if he had a car I would like. That's when I ran into "The Business" from the owner. I did not know my friend paid that totally rip-off cost when she brought me there. Here's my background... Trak Auto for 3 years as management - the parts counter was my baby! Boyfriend went to Lincoln Tech - I did all of his homework (A+ thank you very much!), the law firm for State Farm Insurance as their Jury Trial Paralegal; and finally... My name is Cheri from Cheri Auto Body in Illinois. Let's just assume that I very much know what I am talking about. In 1986 I bought a 1978 Buick Regal for $1,700 - a great deal for the day!! Everyone knows that "all" Regal's have the leaf spring suspension system and once it goes out... just like a dashboard removed and replaced.... it's never the same when you fix it, you will always have an issue with it. So the owner (seeing a woman!) took me around his junk lot and proceeded to put me under his thumb. He tells me that his 1980 Regal (no turbo I might add), with its can spray paint and gloss job, no rear bumper, refusing to open up that hood and very tired interior would cost $3,000. Excuse me? $3,000 for a FORTY YEAR OLD CAR? What is this guy smoking? He tried 2 other cars on me, one had the whole dash empty - no radio, heat, and other controls. He must have forgotten himself as he told me he got it from a kid who had massive engine problems with it - oh sure, I'll take it!! NOT! I politely refused his services, thanked him, and left! Get this!! Ol' Boy comes to my work because he's got another clunker he means to mesmerize me with!! Oh boy, let me bend over!! I've never seen this guy actually work on a car, just his minions. I don't care if the Queen Mum of England, dead and buried for decades, recommends this guy - I wouldn't bother. And to come to my place of business when a simple phone call would do (100% for sure, he has the number!). Use your connections folks for a reputable seller. A few phone calls and I got a mechanic that specializes in high end vehicles (that '79 Stingray was beautiful!). He sold me his personal car (just bought a new one!) for $2,500! Pick up that phone folks!! Don't settle for who is in town! I give this business 1 star (I would have preferred no stars but the system requires at least 1!) for its poor performance at trying to act "all quality," and for not utilizing those things attached to our hands that everyone has.... the phone! I was 100 miles from my destination when I pulled into exit 26A to grab lunch at Arby's. I pushed…read morethe brake pedal... and it went straight to the floor. I punched up Google Maps on my phone to find the nearest car repair shop. Google mistakenly had Jim's listed as 709-2 Plaza Drive. That is wrong. So I called Jim's and spoke to Junior, who gave me correct directions. I gingerly made my way to the nondescript cinderblock building at 100 Brown Ave. The guys hoisted the car up on the lift and suggested I had blown a brake line. I would need to leave it overnight, so I called up Enterprise Rental and got picked up. On my way out, I advised Junior to call me with an estimate. The next morning, I called to check on my car. They hadn't gotten to it yet. They suggested it would be finished by "3 or 4." "Okay," I said. "Just call me with an estimate." I had to get the rental car back by 3:00, so I returned it and got a ride back to Jim's. The car was fixed - 180" of new brake lines - $310. Now, I appreciate the fact that they did fix my car within 24 hours. But I did ask twice to be informed of an estimate. And I only learned the cost when I showed up. That's pretty whack. Also, the waiting room ceiling had a giant crack in it, along with buckets to catch the dripping water. So the place felt sketchy. But... they did fix my car. And when you don't have the ability to brake, that's a big deal.
