That never happened. I called back this morning and got to speak with a live person who told me someone would be out today between 12 and 4 PM. That never happened. We are dealing with an active sewage emergency that our insurance company has failed to treat as urgent. It started with a strong sewage smell coming from our basement. We called a plumber who attempted to snake the line, but the snake broke inside the pipe. A second plumber had to come out to retrieve the broken snake. Both plumbers said they found no clogs. The city also came out and confirmed there were no clogs in the main line. Despite this, the sewage smell continued. Another plumber confirmed there was clearly an issue even if no clog was visible. Around the same time, our neighbors began experiencing severe plumbing issues. They replaced their entire sewer system. When the city returned, they confirmed that wastewater from our home was not flowing into the main line and that our sewer lateral is disconnected or leaking. Our sewage has been discharging into the ground, flowing directly into our neighbor's French drain, into the street, and into their basement. This is now a confirmed health hazard. The Department of Health has contacted our neighbors, and there is a real risk they may be displaced from their home due to contamination caused by our sewage. We immediately notified our insurance company of this confirmation. Despite the seriousness, they have continued to drag their feet. They are blaming delays on a plumbing company waiting to obtain permits and will only quote repairs from the middle of the street to 25 feet toward our house - an approach that may not even resolve the issue. Meanwhile, raw sewage continues to discharge into the ground. This is not a routine claim. This is an emergency involving third-party contamination and public health risk. The lack of urgency, accountability, and escalation has been shocking. I strongly caution anyone considering this insurer: when a real emergency happens, you may find yourself stuck in procedural delays while serious harm continues. read more

Horrible company. Short version - During my multiple conversations with the sales teams, they deliberately lied about having a large network of licensed contractors in my area. They don't have ANY plumbers in McIntosh county and they ultimately sent an HVAC technician who ultimately said he is not licensed to do work in Georgia. I paid 9 months of premiums for absolutely NO service. Long version - Back in January 2025 I reached out to Homeserve because the HVAC started freezing up at an older rental home we own in southeast Georgia. HomeServe had struggled to find anyone local, and when they did send a someone, the original technician's diagnostic didn't make any sense. He said the unit needed to be cleaned before he could add refrigerant and did not believe that the unit had been cleaned that Summer, July 2024 - even though I witnessed the cleaning with my own eyes. I reached back out to Homeserve to express my dissatisfaction and they said they would request a second opinion. Several days went by with no responses, so I reached back out. This time the matter was escalated to the executive resolution team. It took MULTIPLE phone calls, but HomeServe finally acted on their promise to send another technician for a 'second look.' They dispatched a second company out of Jacksonville, FL. While waiting for Homeserve to find a technician, the unit at our family home in the same town started to run non-stop so they were assigned that trouble call as well. The technician seemed competent. He said the compressor was bad at our family home. Unfortunately, this is not a covered Homeserve repair. He gave me a quote for my out of pocket costs. Homeserve's resolution team member contacted me to confirm and explained that I could pay him out of pocket. When I contacted him 2.5 weeks later to schedule the repair, he told me he didn't work in Georgia because he was only licensed to work in Florida. I reminded him of our call ... reminded him of the diagnostic visits he'd performed at our two homes in Georgia. I sent him a screen grab of the quote he'd provided. And he ignored me. I reached out to Homeserve - cancelled my policies and explained what had transpired. I filed a complaint with the BBB and my next step is to file a UDAAP complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. I would definitely avoid this company if you are in rural area. read more

With outside temperatures in the 30s and snow possible tonight, leaving a vulnerable customer without heat for two full days (and potentially longer) goes against the very principle of having a home warranty service. Do not sign a heating agreement that includes an annual tune-up. Their annual tune-up is a "joke". I have a gas boiler. I had to beg the technician to clean the burners. I also requested he clean the Flame Sensor (which would take 5 minutes) and he did not clean it. I also requested a "Combustion" test. He stated they don't do that. I have to say that my experience with HomeServe was nothing but positive. After 21 years, our water line broke (the water line from the street meter to the house). We had a licensed plumber come out and do the work quickly and efficiently. I took the required pictures and sent in the receipt. I was paid back every dollar. My water line contract goes back as long as I have lived in my current home: 21 years. My contract is NOT what is being sold today. I am under a grandfathered contract. HomeServe USA stood behind it and did pay out to me as it should have. This new line is PEX and according to the plumber, it should last 20-30 years. Please be aware that if you ever do need their service, they will send you the worst people to your home. I paid for over a year and finally called them to send a plumber out to my house for a clogged pipe. The plumber never fixed it. He didn't even know what he is doing. I gave them 1star only because you have to select something. Had homeserve for ten years, used them only one time and it was a small plumbing job, so no real problems there. switched accounts when we moved to new state and around 45 days in have a backup problem into our toilets and shower. Plumber comes out snakes outside lines and finds some resistance, so he scoped line. Line is sagging possibly broken but he cannot tell because the water is about two to three feet of the line flooded. He suggests a new patch line put in. Tells me this and he'll report to Homeserve. Homeserve calls and says let us know if it happens again. The plumber is still outside and states that this is a serious problem and that sewage could backup into the house. He talks to a supervisor who argues with him that this was a preexisting problem, which is not true. We had no problems with the house or plumbing lines. We switched from one house to another, and the problem wasn't apparent. Homeserve is refusing to fix the problem because on the new house the problem occurred too soon is our feeling. Their policy says 30 days before any coverage on problems. But stated to us that 45 days there is no way this wasn't a problem before. The plumber said to supervisor that is simply not true, there is no way to determine when a line breaks or sags. The plumber even asked the supervisor if they were a licensed plumber, answer "no", but they basically made determination that we were not eligible for repair based on their belief this had to have been broken previously. We had no problems at all prior to a few days ago. This shows that insurance companies like getting your money, and as I said, we were a customer for TEN YEARS, but they do not like paying out. It is obviously apparent that Homeserve planted some 5star reports online to try and improve their reputation, but you can see by the dozens of 1star reviews - ask yourself which ones are true? They're happy to take your money, but will do everything they can to avoid coverage. Horrible company, Not worth the money. Waited 2 days in mid 90 degree weather before a service company was picked. My situation, I live in East Texas. I have central AC that ties the heater and AC together. The AC uses the blower motor from the heater to function. Without that motor, the system does not work. Me, not knowing this, has/had coverage for the AC system, because it's rarely cold enough to warrant the heater being on. Recently, my ac system went out. Outdoor unit kicks on, and you can hear the internal unit try to kick on but the motor just buzzes. I know it's the motor, I said this during my call with them, I told this to the company that they had come out. Get told "Yep, its a bad motor" and the guy goes and calls HomeServe. They call me and say that because I have AC and not their somehow hidden "AC and heating dual" coverage, that my repair is not covered. This is the second repair they denied, the first being for a capacitor that is expressly covered by their plan due to "scarcity of parts". If I could rate them lower then a 1, I would, and I will be canceling the "service" of paying them money and them not fixing a damned thing. read more

Purchased plumbing package, paid for it, evidence on credit card as well as confirmation e-mail, and then they say I don't have any package. Wasted 1-1/2 hours on the phone going over and over it, and no one knows what to do or say. They just put you on hold and go to lunch. BEWARE OF THIS SCAM. As contractor who has been taking care of Homeserve customers I can say they are a great value. When I call to update Homeserve about what was found I always get an actual human with a heart. If the customer is not covered for reasons out of their control I can hear the heartbreak, but most of the time it's covered so the office is almost always in a good mood. I wish more people would sign up for HomeServe, it makes me feel good telling customers that I am there to help them without having to charge them hundreds or thousands of dollars. I started using HomeServe USA a little over a year ago. I never got a receipt. I never got a document stating what was insured. I called their phone number two to three times. The phone answerer listened to my requests, and assured me that those documents would be forthcoming immediately. They never arrived. I called again a month or so later with the same requests, and again no docs arrived, either by texting, email, of USPS mail. So, I originally wanted exterior sewer line insurance, and MAY have had other types as well. but can't be sure with no docs. The cost was 7.49 a month. Then, less that a year into it, HomeServe nearly tripled the price. Not a word why, no explanation, no communication, just a tripling of the automatic debit from my bank. After three months of that, I disputed the debit with my credit card company. I explained that HomeServe lied, was deceitful each time I called for information. Then, the uncanny thing happened. HomeServe stopped debiting my account for the next seven weeks. No communication. I have to assume that they may have seen me as a "troublemaker" and not worth having me around if I were report a scam to what authorities-there-may-be. For the past 3 years the service has been seamless. This time I updated my credit card and for some reason- they continue to use the expired credit card and send me messages that my account is cancled. This is stressful and silly. I called 6 times - each time they say we have deleted the old (bad) card and updated. in 2-3 days I get an email saying they could not process payment. Homeserve was great when we started with them 5 years ago, but recently every time I call I am transferred 3-5 times to get to a California only agent. If their AI is not intelligent enough to figure out from my zip code that I reside in California, they should eliminate her and hire real people! The Cost Authorization Team stated last week that they would cover the cost for a repair for a multispeed blower for my furnace. Today when the HVAC company came out, I was called at work and told I would have to pay $700 for this particular blower. I started the summer off by having my central A/C fail. We've had it for quite some time and honestly got our money's worth out of it. Every year I'd have Homeserve give it a seasonal check. Last year, it needed a capacitor. I was warned the unit was old and not to expect much more life from it. This year, it seems the coolant was low, which I was told probably meant a leak. I was also told adding more coolant MAY get me through the season (if it doesn't all leak out), but coolant is expensive. Frankly, if I'm going to need a new unit anyway, it wasn't worth it, so they were going to send a sales guy out to sell me on a new unit. That's where the troubles started. Wait a few day for my Saturday appointment. The day arrives and they guy calls to confirm, then I get a call from the office saying he had an emergency, so he wasn't coming. I get it--life happens and you have to take care of it. But the next day the company could get anyone out was the following THURSDAY. Now I don't fault either rep. Like I said, life happens. I fault Homeserve here, for not having enough people to cover when it does. So Thursday comes, and we settle on a unit, and again, the rep was great. I get told they'll call me to set up the install. Mind you that Thursday was July 3rd. No one called. The holiday weekend came and went. I had to call Monday to ask what's up and was told someone would call me later. He called when I was at a doctor's office and the doctor was about to start a procedure---and wouldn't get off the phone or call me back--had to do it NOW. Rude. And the earliest appointment he had was for the FOLLOWING week, so another hot week without A/C. I called to see if they could POSSIBLY get anything earlier. Silence. No calls back. No calls back when I complain about no calls back. I WAS offered $100 to buy a fan--which is an INSULT. If they want to offer a couple hundred more to buy a portable a/c unit, we'll talk. but nope. Spoke with them again today. I was told the reason they didn't call, is there were no earlier appointments. SO YOU CALL AND TELL ME THAT!!! It's called communication. It's called customer service! When someone is spending over 11K on a new HVAC system, and has been a long time customer for servicing heat and HVAC, you TAKE CARE OF THEM. You don't blow them off. For service, they seem to be OK most of the time. HomeServe did a repair about a year ago. We were very happy at the time, but now months down the road we can tell that they did a very poor job on replacing our flooring thru kitchen and hallway. The flooring scratches and has bubbles thru area. The flooring is a very cheap version of our original. HomeServe charged our insurance company full $$ and did very cheap job. They take your money and hire terrible contractors to screw up your job. Then they tell you that if you want a better job, you need to pay yourself. They are not worth ever giving money to. Most homeowner policies have a way for you to take extra insurance out for what they do. Also, there are better companies than them. Do your research and check their ratings. At our property, they hired a plumbing company to replace the sidewalk that was ripped up for a plumbing job. The job was screwed up terribly. My municipality sent me a letter saying it's unacceptable. It doesn't meet code. They don't care! Then they cried when I dropped them as an insurance carrier. This would actually be a 0 star review We purchased the Homeserve plan for ac/conditioning unit Oct. 2023. June 2024, the ac unit which cools the second floor of our home completely shut down. We called Homeserve immediately to set up a service appointment. It took a few days to get an appointment as temperatures were extremely hot and providers in the area were fully booked. Finally, Aurora HVAC Service (New Rochelle NY) was assigned to our request. They came in the evening and told us the freon was depleted and that we would need 10 pounds of freon to replace and it would be $100/lb of Freon . Homeserve only covers 1 pound . So we paid the remainder. Our ac worked for a few weeks then shut down again . When we contacted Homeserve for another service call, a new provider came after a few days. This provider stated that : 1. there is a leak 2. there is no way the unit we have holds 10 lbs of Freon This provider checked in with Homeserve and Homeserve told us they will send the original company (Aurora) . We also called the manufacturer of our ac unit and they also said it holds max 6lbs of Freon. Aurora called us and quoted us over $12,000 to replace the unit and for other costs . They did not even come back to assess the leak . We ended up calling another provider on our own who diagnosed the issue and fixed the problem appropriately and for the fair price . We then filed a reimbursement claim with Homeserve, which was denied on grounds that we agreed to pay Aurora . We agreed with the thought that this company was a reliable company backed by Homeserve and would not cheat us . We were cheated out of $900 for poor work and poor customer service . I worked for this company in Colorado. Everyday you have to do new positions. They will make you sell plans when it is not your dept. They Barely give you training. And when you need help they frown at you. They will come off like we will give you additional training but they don't. Don't waste your time. I turned down another job for this job. Homeserve has been giving me the runaround for 4 months about reimbursing me. Whenever I call, I just get transferred around. I'm giving up and canceling my policy. I had a boiler service contract for over 25 years. I recently cancelled the the service contract with six months to the end of the contract. The yearly premium of $554 was paid . Home Serve refused to refund for the reminder of the contract, 6 months . if I would have paid the premium on a monthly basis the payments would end upon canceling, because I paid the premium yearly Home Serve will not give a refund. I got a letter from Southern California Gas. They said HomeServe is offering me insurance in case of problems in my home. I called repeatedly to get someone on the line. I even asked if they can call me back. I have no interest in working with a company who can't even get on the phone or refuses to call back. Also, they're independent of Southern California Gas is also a bad sign. So why would my gas company tell me to sign up with these people? HomeServe reminds me of the letters I still get from companies like Home Warranty & Auto Warranty. Saying if I sign up with their insurance, my home & vehicles will be protected. Yet when I call them, they refuse to take no for an answer. I don't want their scam insurance. Yet, they send their garbage notices that my warranty will expire. Like I care. Been going on for over a year. It should've expired a long time ago. HomeServe gets poor ratings from many customers who work with them. So many complaints from a company that was recommended by Southern California Gas. I went to multiple websites & the review are awful. Even on their Facebook page, the reviews are bad. While I haven't worked with them, I wouldn't want to. If they can't get on the phone or call back, why should I do business with these people? Go online, read the reviews. HomeServe refusing to reimburse after promsing to do, and reps lie to customers. In October 2024 I called HomeServe to setup a repair to unclog a main sewer line that was causing plumbing issues in the downstairs apartment. I stressed the urgency of the problem as clogs in the main line can cause sewage backups into the apartment which can be a health hazard. Home Serve attempted to setup multiple plumbers to come out but none of them could come out the same day, so they told me to hire a plumber on my own who could come out the same day, and that they would reimburse me. I received the reimbursement form to fill out online, uploaded the plumbing receipt, and have been waiting on reimbursement. This was early October 2024, it is now late December 2024 and I have not received reimbursement. I have called at least 3-4 times, and each time I receive a different story from the representatives. The latest as of 12/20/2024 when I called today was "It appears we received all your documentation on the workorder ending xxB02F3-1 but then we cancelled the reimbursement request, and opened a duplicate order and it's been missing documentation.". I asked them to explain why they cancelled a complete reimbursement request that was not missing documentation, they didn't know. I asked them why they made a duplicate to begin with, they didn't know. I told them it seems a bit nefarious to have created a duplicate work order that was missing documents, and then cancelling the work order that HAD all the documents for reimbursement, as if there was an attempt by HomeServe to simply never pay me. Again, I have called multiple times over the last 2 months, including 12/12 and now 12/20. On 12/12 I was told Reimbursement team would call me to square it away immediately. That never happened. On 12/20 I was told I can't speak to the reimbursement team, but they will call if they need anything. Explain the logic here -- they were missing documents on the duplicate claim THEY made, but never called? Representatives appear to not know what they're doing, and seemingly lie. we had AC service done through PSEG and was offered a discount for the service if we signed up. The discount more than offset the sign up cost. Haven't not seen any value in their service. Automatically renews so if you are in a similar situation, don't forget to cancel service as soon as possible. read more

Terrible company. We had over 25 rental properties covered and it was a constant nightmare. They will leave tenants without heat or conditioning for extended periods. If I give zero stars, I would. I am on a monthly payment system of approximately $15.00 for ac and heat (3 units) for about $45. In December of 2023, they randomly charged by credit card close to $250. They had NO explanation whatsover. The Finance Dept does not respond to the rep's emails requesting my account be straightened out. They even ignore a supervisor's email. I regret the day that I ever took a contract out with them.
