I just moved to Kelowna and have stopped in here twice to buy some stuff that I need for my house…read more Both times have been fairly unpleasant / frustrating experiences. The first time I went it was unpleasent as I felt very unwelcome. I had a few questions and the gentleman with black hair behind the counter didn't seem to feel like I was important enough for him to look up from his computer to help me. I asked about other kitchen stuff I needed and told me to look upstairs and pointed in the wrong direction to the stairs leaving me confused for a few minutes wondering around the back of the store before I had to ask him again where to go. Later in my shopping experience the same gentleman yelled at my kids for playing with a demo milk foaming product (one of the cheapest products this store carrries.) I can understand addressing an incident like this. Part of his job is to protect the products in the store. However, I don't think there is ever a reason for a stranger to raise their voice to another strangers children ages 4 and 7. It is traumatic for the kids and shows complete disrespect for the parent right there (I was never talked to directly) I ended up buying well over 300 dollars worth of stuff and I walked out feeling like I wished I had given my dollars to someone else. The second time I was in was super frustrating. I should say this time the staff was lovely. I was helped by shorter young woman with glasses and her collegue. Both were very eager to help and assisted me as best they could. The frustrating part was the selection offered. I was looking for a chef's knife in the 100 dollars range. It was explained to me that most of their knives were a little more expensive as they mainly only carry two brands - Shun and Wusthof. We quickly discovered together that they also carry Kai Knives. What bothered me was that I know both Shun and Wusthof have very nice knives in my price range. I know I can go somewhere else to find what I needed. However, I live very close, and Lakehouse does advertise themselves as a home and kitchen store. I don't feel like I should have to go out of my way to find a knife in my price range. knives are by far the most important tool in the kitchen. It is insane to me that Lakehouse has like five brands of milk foamers but only two brands of knives displayed in a small out the way part of the store. It also feels a little discriminatory that they only carry decent knives in the 200 dollar range when their distrubuters offer them at all price points. It is also is a little bit of gut punch knowing that I can get their budget brand Kai for half the price on Amazon. Overall, I know I am not their target audience. So maybe I should be less critical. It might be a good idea to put a sign on the door to make it a little clear who this store serves. Maybe something like " Rich, white, stay at home wives only." It might prevent some confusion in the future.
