Homes Alive is definitely one of my favorite pet stores around. I love going there just to check out the animals and my little cousins are always begging me to take them there. Started as the best small market Pet Store ever. Now mainly a food and equipment retailer. Even the huge Fish department vanished. Some prices are awesome, some are really high. Many of the younger staff seem well trained to sell an over priced item that is not suitable for the customer's purpose instead of the appropriate item. Watched a customer put back exactly what she was needing and looking for to spend more than twice as much on products that would only barely be suitable for a short time after a "knowledgable" staff helped them. The mature man (owner/manager?) is really knowledgable and helpful but encourages Ferrari-like standards when unnecessary. Do your research and know what you want before going here or you may tend to spend way too much, then return later to get what you should have purchased the first time.
