Absolute worst experience of my life. I attempted to buy a home and used HomeFirst because it was recommmened by a relative. My HomeFirst agent, Rosa, was constantly asking that I resend documents, some because she had sent me the wrong ones or her office filled in portions incorrectly. HomeFirst also told me I was approved, then told me several weeks later they had to revoke my approval because they couldnt procure a mortgage lender who would accept my debt to income ratio. Ultimately, I ended up not being able to purchase the home, because HomeFirst didn't provide the paperwork and money wire (which I transferred ASAP once they requested it) and I as the Seller surpassed the deadline. The buyer was fed up, HomeFirst literally botched the buying process twice. I am 26/Government Contractor making $80k. Ultimately I used HF to buy my condo, but it seriously was the most disorganized service that I have ever experienced. I highly would not recommend them. Buying a home is stressful enough; no one should have to endure what I did. read more

Recently, my girlfriend and I were purchasing a condo in DC and were getting our financing through a mortgage company recommended to us by our sales agent. I had refinanced a previous mortgage with Homefirst Mortgage a few years ago and had a great experience with Greg Kundinger, so I reached out to him for a quote. Thanks to Greg's responsiveness, I was better able to negotiate with the mortgage company I was planning to go with. Due to delays with the closing process, our rate lock expired and the mortgage company we were planning to use wanted to charge us a higher rate and fees to get a new rate. I reached out to Greg again and he was able to beat the rate AND offer us lower closing costs without the fees the other lender wanted to charge. At this point, we decided that we were wasting our time with the other company and we made the CORRECT decision, which was to go with Greg and Homefirst Mortgage. Even though we had to go to close quickly after the delays were finally resolved, Greg and his team - Bonnie Neuss - acted quickly to pull all the information together and get us to closing with our financing in place. They answered all of our questions, were responsive, and told us exactly what we needed and when we needed it by. Despite the frantic run up to close in the last few days, Greg and Bonnie stayed calm and helped us to stay calm, even when we didn't know if the close was going to happen because of issues with the city outside of our control. In the end, we closed successfully, and Greg and Bonnie got us there. We are extremely grateful to have had Homefirst Mortgage supporting us. Anna helped me as a first time home buyer in 2005 and she was so amazing that when I moved back to Virginia last year I immediately called her to work with me on my home purchase. She is smart, detail oriented, fast, responsive and will take the time to walk through everything with you in a way that you can understand. She will also tell you like it is and makes sure you get the best possible deal. During my recent home purchase (my 2nd with Anna), we had very little time - my offer was accepted at the end of November and my closing date was January 2nd. Not only was she able to quickly and efficiently turn around all of the paperwork, but she diligently worked to make sure that my closing credit was fully utilized (no small feat since it was quite large). We used HomeFirst to refinance our jumbo loan on our home. Both the rate and the service were outstanding. Greg Kundinger (the owner and broker) was superbly professional, friendly, and unfailingly responsive. By the latter, I mean that he would cheerfully respond to every single e-mail I sent him within the hour, with an informative, well-written answer to my question. He even drove by our home a couple of times on his way home from work to drop off documents personally! But the best thing was his willingness to explain the very complex aspects of a GFE and a HUD-1 in simple terms, without seeming put-upon or anything but glad to help. As I mentioned, we got a very good rate, and Greg was able to add some lender money up front to reduce our out-of-pocket costs. Although the bank that ended up buying our loan is a small one in the Midwest and not one we'd previously heard of, the processing of the loan and our monthly direct payments have gone through without any problems. I am utterly shocked by the sole other review on Yelp (as I write this). It is so unlike our experience, I don't know what to make of it. read more

Greg wrote a mortgage for a private sale within my family, and I was pre-approved through him on a mortgage for my own home purchase. Throughout both transactions, Greg was HIGHLY knowledgeable about both the mortgage AND home purchase process. When I sold a property to my mother, Greg was knowledgeable about the specifics of a private sale, and was able to ensure the transaction went off without a hitch. When it came time for my fiance and I to purchase our own home, we contacted him in August 2020 to begin investigating our purchase options, and went through the formal pre-approval process in December 2020. Every step of the way, Greg was there with suggestions about what would be the best option for our situation, and knew how to handle a tricky student loan situation that another lender wasn't familiar with. He knew exactly how to structure the contract to address our situation - a non-married couple with significantly different income levels and credit scores. Although we eventually went with another lender, it was honestly Greg's work getting us pre-approved and securing an objectively fantastic loan offer that led to us purchasing our house. I couldn't recommend Greg more, especially for first-time home buyers, or those with non-traditional financial situations. Please give Greg your business! read more

I agree with the previous reviewer. I wish I had searched for a review before going with them, but it was a recommendation from my real estate agent, whom I trusted. While they came through in the end, I got verification the day before closing, and in those tense days before when I was being asked to jump through hoops to get one more document, I often didn't get calls/emails returned in a timely manner to assure me that they'd been received and things were moving along. I got a good rate, but the "Good Faith Estimate" came in about $1,500 less than what my actual closing costs were because they underestimated the number of months that I would pay up front in taxes (2 instead of the required 6). Surely they knew this but wanted to woo me with a lower cost estimate. In the end, I would have paid that money anyway, but not to know how much my actual closing costs would be until the day of closing and having them come in $1,500 more is really unacceptable, especially when they just gave me the figures without a word. It's arrogant and sorely lacking in customer service. You can do better! read more
