It's really two shops in one, as half is devoted to DIY and hardware with the other side being a well-stocked pet shop. There is a huge range of products and it's a rare occasion when they haven't had the item I needed, or haven't been able to offer an alternative. Whether it's a watering can or a toy for your budgerigar, it's all here! The staff are lovely people, real local characters, and if you take your dog into the pet 'department' it will be spoiled rotten and will for ever after try to drag you into the shop if you are passing by!

My main interest, being a bit of a foodie, was the kitchen department and the range and choice was great; Le Creuset, Aga, Stellar, Victorinox, Kitchen Devils, Cole & Mason and many more big name brands. An excellent choice of electrical items too including breadmakers, toasters, kettles etc. It's good to see independent businesses like this competing with the big out of town retail park type electrical and furniture stores and I only wish my nearest town had such a little gem of a shop.

Move farther into the shop and you'll find the kitchen section which has an excellent selection of cookware. You'll find they have most items at a variety of price levels. For instance, you can get some relatively cheap kitchen knives for a couple of quid right through to top-end Japanese knives that almost require a mortgage. Deeper into the shop, there's a small gardening department and at the very back there's a hardware section with a good selection of tools and fittings. Head upstairs and you're into the furniture and decoration bits. They stock pretty much any kind of homeware and you'll find towels and linen mixed in with bedroom furniture and tables. The staff are all really friendly and know about everything they stock and where it is, which can be handy if you're in there for something specific. For example, I just got some fully-lined heavy velvet curtains that were £60 marked down to £19.99. I also got a 6ft long roller blind for my kitchen window that was marked down to a fiver. I also bought all new bedding, not on sale, that was still good value for the money. My bed is so comfy now! And the woman that was working the floor in the bedding department helped us gather what we wanted and also knew exactly what date some pillowcases we wanted would be back in stock. I also know from experience that they are happy to accept returns as I bought a set of curtains that was the wrong size. I brought them back for a painless exchange.

I was interested in making some eyelet top curtains, and the staff member I spoke to regarding the sew-in eyelets was extremely helpful. The fabrics are cut at your request. There is everything you need to make the curtains - thread, lining, eyelets,wires. They also stock a great selection of poles, blinds and readymade curtains. At the moment they have a huge volume of christmas products - definitely worth a look
