From the moment I spoke with a receptionist, then with Shola, one of the case workers, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief. Shola explained clearly what they could and could not do for my sister, what their schedule could be, what the rates were. Before plans were finalized, I also got a call from Jonathan Wishnick, the owner -- this truly is a business where the owners know what is going on and care about their clients. When Senior Helpers went to meet my sister, they called back with some concerns about her situation of which I had been unaware -- thanks to them, we were able to resolve those problems and now my sister is thriving. For two months we have had a lovely lady named Sara going to my sister for three hours each day. Now that my sister is in better health she will have a visit only once a week. My sister loves Sara's visits. I'm not sure if I can say enough about how grateful I am to Senior Helpers. I was terrified when I learned that my sister had been hospitalized, that she was sent home unable to care for herself -- and I was thousands of miles away unable to help. I almost cannot believe that there could be a "business" that can step in and fill the place of family, taking care of my sister with such dedication and kindness. I am eternally grateful!

Lincoln Park Family Care (LPFC) has been a wonderful provider for my mom who has moderate…read moreAlzheimer's Disease and lives in a continuing care retirement community (CCRC). Many CCRCs, no matter how upscale they are, are understaffed and are not designed for people with mild to moderate dementia. They offer three categories of care (independent living, assisted living, and memory care) when, in my opinion, there should be at least six categories. They market themselves as providing all of the services an aging person will need, but that's not really the case. Our elders are healthier than in the past and as a result, more of them are going to age into dementia. It's a looming crisis in elder care. In my opinion, CCRCs need to evolve. Until they do, people who can afford CCRCs may have to hire private care or their loved one may suffer alone and be heavily sedated. My mom is young (72), physically healthy and active, which presents challenges because she is also unable to make rational decisions. She does not understand that she has dementia and is proud and independently minded, so assisting her with activities of daily living can also be very challenging. Jeff and Ausra, the owners, have gone above and beyond in providing not only compassionate care for my mom, but support for me via many meetings and phone calls. Before working with them we had another caregiving provider and experienced turnover and last-minute sick call-outs, resulting in substitute caregivers my mom did not know. The only time I got a phone call was when there was a problem. This is not how LPFC operates at all. I get frequent updates from them, and we also talk to share ideas, discuss challenges, and also share positive experiences. LPFC takes a very hands-on approach and they are clearly driven by empathy and an earnest desire to make my mom's life as fulfilling as possible. A lot of thought has gone into the caregivers they have matched with my mom. Retirement communities can be challenging environments for private caregivers to navigate, and LPFC has also been consistently patient, honest and proactive in communicating with the retirement community and being patient with the challenges. The chord running through all of what LPFC does is to provide my mom with the best care based on her unique needs. I have heeded their frank and constructive advice many times, and their insights have given me a better understanding of how to approach my mom's behaviors and needs as we navigate this challenging and tragic journey. I highly recommend LPFC. I feel very lucky we found them.

I engaged Lincoln Park Family Care (LPFC) in the midst of the pandemic no less, after my mother…read morefinished with her skilled nursing stint after a fall, and was released to her Independent Living apartment in an upscale senior center in Evanston that in theory provides all levels of care. However, my mother's return to the apartment was conditioned on employing assistance for her. As I manage my mother's affairs from across the country, this was a challenge as her senior center did not have anyone on their "list" that provided the kind of care my mother needed - daily check in and assistance with medication. My mother is intensely private and independent, and so the alternatives of half day "companionship" were not a good match, even though she suffers from dementia. Fortunately, Lincoln Park and Jeff and his wife Ausra were recommended by a former caregiver (since retired) I had employed for my stepfather several years ago. The team at Lincoln Park stepped in immediately with aplomb. They worked diligently to win my mother's confidence and trust - this is not an easy task. They provided me with reports on her progress and advocated on her behalf with the staff at her community. They made themselves available by phone 24/7 for when she got confused on things like her medication instructions. All of this was made even more challenging with the pandemic which forced my mother to spend all of her days locked-up in her apartment. Jeff obviously has a wealth of knowledge and experience working with dementia patients. One of the things it is especially hard to do, especially from afar, is evaluating the on the ground experience vs. the told experience of someone in mental decline who is fighting very hard to "keep with-it." Jeff very deftly and respectfully laid out the evolving situation as we all threaded our way through a very difficult time as my mother navigated her challenges amidst the changing COVID world. Ausra provided a very caring presence, especially with female support, and stepping in to take care of small shopping requests. Jeff and Ausra work as a very good team, and have other skilled caregivers when they are not on point. I can't say enough for the quality of care they have given to my mother and at the same time the assistance they provided me in understanding the situation in my role as remote caregiver. They have also been good eyes and ears on the ground, helping me stay attuned to the changing dynamics of the Center necessitated by COVID. I highly recommend Lincoln Park Family Care.

Every nurse and CNA was friendly and more than competent, however medications were often given late and most of the time it took more than 20 minutes for somebody to answer the call button. This was not due to laziness of the staff, but due to intentional understaffing. I was at Wesley to receive physical therapy. I had a horrible therapist who threatened not to give me therapy. I left messages three days in a row to the head of therapy and now, three weeks later I have yet to receive a call back. I also called the administrator three days in a row and then once 7 days later, and am still waiting for a return call. If the head of the main department for skilled nursing cannot take the time to call a patient in the facility, and the administrator cannot either, nobody should ever stay in this place. Let me conclude on a positive note. My problems were resolved by the social worker, Sarah, who took her job to heart and treated everybody lovingly and with great care and attention to detail. She deserves to work at a place that appreciates her and its patients, so if anybody needs an amazing social work, call Sarah. You won't do much better.

Yes, I left a message over an hour ago, and no call back. I then tried to reach the sales rep. No answer. Of course. She sold us. Left her a message. I wish I could move my sister tonight. Who credentialed this place? Shame.

BEWARE!! LivHome bought out Chicagoland Caregivers several months ago and ever since then, the…read morequality of service has been shockingly unacceptable. LivHome is aiming to be a corporate giant and capitalize on an aging population. What they "care" about is the bottom line: their profit. They've moved to a pricing structure that nickles and dimes the client. For example, if the caregiver helps the client make a phone call, then they must note it and charge for it. If they help the client with walking, then again, they charge extra. In addition, they are bullying and lying to long-time caregivers by saying they are not allowed to work extra hours, even if their weekly cumulative hours are not excessive (approx. 45 per week). The reason? Because they don't want their caregivers becoming too close to the client because they then run the risk of losing the caregiver. I've NEVER received a call from a supposed "care manager" or "care coordinator." Take my advise: go with another agency or hire a private caregiver. You'll undoubtedly receive much more compassionate service at a lower price.

I hired LivHome for care giving services upon my discharge from a skilled nursing facility. They…read morewere one of three services recommended to me by the nursing facility. I also knew someone involved with the organization. The care manager came out to visit with me and reviewed their services and my situation. I was told I would have to pay a higher rate because of my condition and that I have a cat. I was told there would be no problem with anything I was asking for including transferring. We discussed the type of caregiver I would need given my size. Again, I was told it was no problem. In 3 months' time, I had 5 caregivers. They included one that put her television watching ahead of helping me, one that cleaned the carpet by sweeping it with a broom and watching the dryer as the laundry finished, and one who told me up front she wanted a live-in position. I never requested a change; I always tried to work with them. The care manager always made excuses for the caregiver. It appeared to me that they were more concerned with fitting the caregiver's requests and schedule than the client. They made it seem that my request for someone to be proactive was very unusual. Furthermore, every time the care manager had to visit me, call me or work on my case, there was a $110 charge. The last caregiver I had was very good but she had just started working in the office so her hours were limited. There was one time I went 3 weeks without service. I asked the care manager what the problem was. He said it was a combination of 3 things: the # of hours I wanted (4 hrs. per week), my location (5 miles from their office) and the fact that I have a cat. All of the caregivers I had with the exception of the last all lived on the South or West side of the city. The final straw came last week when I was hospitalized for 2 days. I called the care manager to tell him what was going on and that I would need someone upon my discharge and going forward for about a week until I got my strength back. He said no problem and that he would call me daily. I called him the next day as soon as I found out I was being discharged. He sounded annoyed that I was calling so late for services. He was able to confirm my regular caregiver but no one called to tell me this or what time she would be here. During her visit, I asked who would be here the next day. She looked at me dumbfounded and said no one. I was told they worked on it all night but couldn't find any one. I was very frightened because I was extremely weak and alone. Furthermore, the caregiver the night before had locked the door despite my several instructions to leave it unlocked and she had left my transfer board out of my reach. I found out later that the care manager had spoken to one of the people I listed on my application about my situation. He spoke to him without my knowledge and told him more about the situation than he told me. I could understand if I was elderly and wasn't in my right mind but I'm young and am fully aware of what's going on. I felt very betrayed. He told the person he had no hard feelings. Well, that makes one of us! I would only go with them if you live South or West of the city and you want to be nickeled and dimed for the services. There are much better services out there who deserve your business.
