I received a call today stating that they never received payment for a service that was provided in August 2023, even though they did receive payment for another location that was serviced on the same day. This was due to them not writing down the correct email for the second location. I do understand that mistakes can happen and that payments are necessary to run the company. However, the way the office manager spoke to me about the payment was very unprofessional. It felt like she was the owner of the company. Due to this, I have decided not to call them back for any of my seven locations in Des Moines. I read on Yelp that "72 is about creating and developing relationships with our customers by providing superior service". However, this is not how they can build a relationship with customers. I have been working in customer service for the past seven years and I have never encountered anyone who has spoken to me in such a manner. I just hope that the owner, Kendel Richlen, reads this and takes action to improve his business for future customers.

But OMG, the price: $368 for 20-30 min of work to replace $45 worth of parts (that's if I buy them retail). So, $320 for 20-30 min of labor. It's America, I don't mind paying people well. But this is just offensive. And they charge you $99 just for showing up, so you're caught in the trap that if you don't hire them, you lose $99. Frame of reference: $368 is roughly equal to what the average American household earns in a WHOLE DAY. (Note: I'm in Des Moines, although my Yelp location shows me in San Francisco).

I called them and asked if they could come out and take a look. They informed me that they were too busy to come out and take a look and that they probably could sometime in February. So I looked around on the internet and found Top Notch. I'm glad I did. I have had a lot of service people come to my house for repairs and such and they all seem to fly through the work and are wanting to get tot he next job. I felt that he wanted to do the job to a "T" and make sure everything was in great, not good, great working order. I really appreciated that. He also spent the time to show me the parts and how to operate my fireplace. Thomas went above and beyond anything I thought was possible for a chimney inspection and cleaning. He even made the firebox look brand new by painting the inside and trim.

While we waited he patched the old one for us as a temporary fix (this was a HUGE help as we had a rainstorm but the water stayed out). About a week later Tom called about the cover being in and he came out the next day and installed it. Looks good plus he gave me a lifetime guarantee on the cover and labor. We did not get multiple bids, so I am not sure how his pricing compares but the communication, timeliness, punctuality and overall chimney knowledge was greatly appreciated. I will absolutely call Top Notch in the future.

We used C & K Heating and Air Conditioning to replace the home furnace/AC when the 25 year old…read moreequipment began to fail. Their professional salesperson was knowledgeable and provided very competitive quotes and higher quality products and took care of all rebates without issue. We got better efficiency equipment and the quote was $1000 less than a competitor with less efficient equipment. Plus they provided a years worth of service 2 times/year) for free. The installers were very nice and cleaned up well. We also have used C and K's Plumbing service with good results. Had to put in a new shut off valve because the old one was leaking and very old, some fixture work in the bathroom, adding of a hand shower, and 16 fixing a wobbling toilet. Have found their people to all be professional, personable and reliable. The company communicates well via text to let you know when they are arriving with a picture of the service person which is a nice feature. I recommend C and K. We are two for two and I've just called them again today to fix a gas leak on a 1974 natural gas garage heater.

After my Dad moved himself into assisted living, we kept his house for over a year, which was…read morecertainly convenient as a place to stay for me or my brother when we were in town visiting. But after awhile, it just wasn't economical for my Dad to pay utilities, upkeep, and insurance as glorified Air BnB for his adult children. With Dad's agreement, I took the lead in selling the house, while my Sister managed the large task of clearing everything out. As this wasn't the house we grew up in, there was very little emotion involved in letting it go. At the recommendation of the HOA President, I chose Patty Meese of Friedrich Iowa Realty, who my Dad already knew from previous community volunteer work. As my Dad can sometimes be a little tentative, his comfort level with Patty was a big plus. My Sister liked her too. I enjoyed working with Patty, even thought it was only in person at select times, as I live in Northern Nevada. My Sister and Dad helped pick up the slack with Patty and in the end we sold the house at over asking and relatively quickly. I thought she was very attentive and professional within the central scope of selling the house. However, I do think that a hail storm-related roof repair issue involving the HOA could have been managed better, starting with the fact that I was notified at least a full month after the fact. Once the house was listed, the next phase was when a number of chatting neighbors would invite themselves in to the Open Houses and tell any prospective buyers (who would listen) multiple versions of the "true" story. I've never been part of a sale where house showings turned into what seemed like a neighborhood scrum. That resulted in a "few" unnecessary phone calls to knock down the here say. That was on the agents to control the situation in the house at the time. The subsequent HOA feud (Dad shared his emails) regarding the issue and the often poorly executed insurance company coordination was above any agent's pay grade. However, I found that I should have been given better information all around to best advise my Father. In the end, my Dad took it in stride, even though I feel that the check he had to write post closure (and repair completion) was higher than it should have been. The icing on this cake was the HOA President agreeing with my assessment that their Board decision threw my Dad (who was HOA Treasurer for years) under the bus. Would I use Patty again? Absolutely, as she got the house sale done at better than our price. It was a unique externality that turned a part of this process pear shaped. And in hindsight, I should have been more physically present and better prepared and engaged to set (and execute) some of the parameters of the sale.
