Reservations are made through the Recreation.gov site. There are some really cool tent sites on the riverside that are just above the river and you have to climb down stairs to access them. The main campground is very well established so the trees are all mature and there is lots of shade. There are two bathhouses but a disappointing few number of showers, which is my only complaint about this campground. In addition to the main campground, there is also an Annex. This is a newer section and the trees are still smaller here yet. In another twenty years, the Annex sites will be nice and shaded. I prefer the riverside sites but will book an Annex site if those are not available. The Annex has its own playground, dump station, and bathhouse. The bathhouse in the Annex is actually nicer than the ones in the main campground so that is one positive to that section! You can walk to the river, walk to the trout stream to fish, ride your bike, hike the trail, or walk to the Fish Hatchery and Visitor's Center next door. There is a little snack shack in the day use area that has an awesome breakfast menu, rents kayaks, sells basic supplies including ice and bait.

It is less than a 10 minute drive to Mammoth Cave National Park too. We stayed in (recently renovated) Cabin 6. I love watching all the tiny home reviews online, and this place gave us a little taste of that lifestyle. We spent all the time we could outside at the fire. Sadly, the torrential downpours kept us in our super cozy cabin for two nights. Our hosts are super helpful, and made great suggestions about the best caves to explore. We can't wait to come back. We found out this morning that this place is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These cabins were hand built from local natural stone. If you lokk at the pictures, you will see chunks of onyx in the wall. This place is fascinating!

But, the staff worked with my fiancé and his family all the way up to the actual proposal. The staff did a great job playing along (I had no idea my fiancé had planned this)! Once we got towards the end of the trail ride, the trail guide directed us to a nearby field, got me off my horse and distracted me with taking my photo with my adorable horse June, when I turned around-there he was down on one knee. The staff helped make this a day I will remember for the rest of my life & I will be thinking about them on our big day!

A couple years later my parents upgraded to a lake house, and they come down here almost every weekend (Even in the winter!!) I try to make it out here at least a couple times a year and it's always a fun time. The lake is gigantic and absolutely beautiful to cruise on. The surrounding neighborhoods have lovely homes and friendly people. All of the facilities that I have visited at this state park have always felt clean and nice. I could easily recommend this park to anyone. It is way out in the country off of the highway, but it is well worth it for a relaxing weekend in the sun!

There is a dump station with 2 sites. The reservation check in has ice and fire wood, but it's hit or miss if someone is there to help you. We never even officially checked in because no one was there. We stayed on electric site #2 and it was perfectly shaded and quiet. The sites are nice and level with large spaces for games, hammocks, dogs, etc. Just outside the campground is the beach, park office and lake access for boats. The beach is small, but maintained well. We went on a 95+ degree day and the lake water felt like bath water, it was so warm. The lake was busy with a lots of boats and lots of beach goers. The park is pretty small, it mostly encompasses the lake, and there is not much around there. It take 40 min to get to the interstate and close to an hour to reach Mammoth Cave.

When we arrived to the…read morepark no one was around to receive us, maybe because it just stopped raining... but not a single soul around, we got there driving aprox. 6 minutes from the Somerset city limits. Amazing park, pretty big and with tons of running trails. Perfect for bikes and walking, golf course seems pretty good also. Have this small office with a park ranger there where I suppose that there´s some one to give you information. Free entrance and the road is really easy to drive, no difficult to get there. I can´t tell if you can camp there, because like I said, there was no one around to ask. Anyways, was lovely to see that there are this kind of parks and really there are a lot of parks around here in KY! Safe travels!!

We also rented the tube which was a 3 person seated tube. We can't say enough great things about our day! Jimmy dropped the boat off to us, explained everything and off we went. The kids had a blast on the tube and we were able to park the boat in a cove where we swam and fished. Can't say enough great things about the price, friendliness of the guys who dropped off and picked up the boat and the cleanliness of the boat. Thank you for a great day on Lake Cumberland!
