I walked around this park with Nick Nolte yesterday. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XwxMA7BTP7zxcqKwVEvfeQ?select=LKAW5RGYxE72NLKdk_14tQ
OK, not exactly *with* him, haha.....Mr. Nolte was there & I was there, and we passed each other twice on the walking path that circles the park. He's not the hottie he once was, but hell, neither am I.
My new rule is to not bug celebs by asking for photos, so I just greeted him and he responded with a few words and a smile.
With or without celeb presence, I love Holmby Park.
It's meticulously maintained, as would be expected of a public area that's set in one of the most expensive residential 'hoods in LA. The Spelling mansion, which overlooks the little park, (seen in the distance in this photo) http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XwxMA7BTP7zxcqKwVEvfeQ?select=44S3Brsuxnv3ivyf3DsvyA
was listed for sale in March for 150 million. That makes it the priciest house in the country, by far. At 56,500 sq. ft. (that's just the interior space, remarkably), it's probably one of the largest residences, too. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XwxMA7BTP7zxcqKwVEvfeQ?select=8qbgRtPYPOOwetAqvFpWbA
Candy Spelling is moving into a 47 million-dollar penthouse nearby, in Century City.
Hef lives right up the road from Holmby Park, in the Playboy Mansion on Charing Cross. The star homes tour bus drove by while I was walking past Spelling's place, and I waved, as they all tried to figure out who I was, under my cap & dark glasses. (Momma Yelp, bitches!)
This is a neighborhood of gorgeous properties on big lots, conveniently located between Westwood and prime Beverly Hills. I could give up beach living for Holmby Hills, I like it that much.
Of course there are no parking meters on the quiet streets around little Holmby Park.....that would be gauche, haha.
Unfortunately, there also is no water in the stream that runs though the park. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XwxMA7BTP7zxcqKwVEvfeQ?select=nOVsFmRddfl273UBQHh1DA
There's a little waterfall, too....or there would be were it not dry as a bone.
I have a feeling kiddies ignored the signs and enjoyed splashing in the the water feature perhaps too much......
And what upscale park would be without an 18-hole golf course...... http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XwxMA7BTP7zxcqKwVEvfeQ?select=M3qGEvTXe7gmGoAc3F0J-w
How the hell they condensed 18 holes into that small area is beyond me, but that's what the signs said.
As if the golf course does not provide sufficient chicness, there are two lawn bowling greens, with a vintage clubhouse. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XwxMA7BTP7zxcqKwVEvfeQ?select=l0FSw1t01SKa3qeaHNklnQ
The Holmby Park Lawn Bowling Club was established in 1927.....*cough*old money *cough*......
There are two kiddie playgrounds, too, all nicely fenced in, on beds of soft sand. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XwxMA7BTP7zxcqKwVEvfeQ?select=7DVk6Jetw4faN4Ph_pvGOA
On weekends, the picnic grove, where there are barbecues, becomes kids' birthday party central. Leftover balloons adorned the fences, there are so many parties held in this lovely setting. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XwxMA7BTP7zxcqKwVEvfeQ?select=5psAvC3MVuGI1wp6JYOJhg
But my fave part of this park is the walking path that circles the space. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XwxMA7BTP7zxcqKwVEvfeQ?select=hBXtVuuKMKFQDH3MG95Btg
It winds around and through groves of ornamental trees http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XwxMA7BTP7zxcqKwVEvfeQ?select=8YILDd2SyGALb9lKNCZA7g
and beds of colorful flowers. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XwxMA7BTP7zxcqKwVEvfeQ?select=VwKZ43ysUZbwyTAH2voAKQ
If you're in the area, stop and enjoy this elegant, tree-filled piece of paradise. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/XwxMA7BTP7zxcqKwVEvfeQ?select=Y2xJuKGMerZngbjBjcSP6w
