Tucked away in Cradley Heath is the Holly Bush, a pub serving real ale at low prices and offering a varied range of comedy and entertainment. It prides itself on low prices and a local atmosphere.
A small stage and a 40-capacity room supports events Stripped Down Theatre, Bush TV and the weekly Thursday comedy night. With a mixture of professionals and first timers, the Bush hands out ten minute slots and is famous in the Birmingham comedy scene as the place to start out or test new material.
However, if you are expecting the sanitised stand up of TV, you will be disappointed. Some of the Bush acts can be, as a worried mother may say, edgy, or perhaps downright offensive, depending on your sensibilities.
Once the comedy is over, there are roast potatoes and sausages and a game of play your cards right. So if a set went poorly and made you feel low, you'll soon be feeling higher, higher. It's a friendly atmosphere and a venue well worth visiting, just don't sit on the back benches - they're for regulars and you may be moved on. read more
