The coaches have all been patient and encouraging and my son has gone from being afraid to go under water to being able to race with the other students in any of the four strokes he's studied. He was placed in age (and ability) appropriate levels all along and his confidence soared as he mastered skills that allowed him to progress. Another small thing, that is a big thing for people with younger children, is that the pool temperature is not freezing. Many previous places we went to my son would be blue after the first 15 minutes. I tried wet suits and short classes but he'd always be miserable. Here he never mentions the water temperature and none of the adults that bring their babies into the pool for their classes seem uncomfortable at all. I would highly recommend this school. I have always had good experience with the poolside staff; they are young to be sure, but earnest, genuine and kind. The people in the water with the kids are fantastic.

The classes are no more than three students per class and there are two teachers in the pool so you can feel very confident and safe for your child child. Now- this is not a high end location with changing rooms and showers etc. however- I have been to other places who have such a rigorous curriculum that they are not adapting to each individual child's needs. They are doing that here. So 1 no fancy locker rooms, no area for the parents to hang. BUT my kid was braver then she ever was in any class before.

After a quick bag search, I went upstairs to the women's locker room which was cleaner than expected. Staff were nice in reminding us to lock up our stuff. As a former competitive swimmer, it was extremely difficult to do flip turns, not only because they closed half of the pool horizontally due to lifeguard staffing issues, but also because there were multiple people moving in different directions. It was busy when it first opened in the morning but then calm downed a bit and folks were able to do more lap swimming. Water was pretty clean and temperature was good; chlorine levels weren't too bad. Sounds like they close for the fall/winter so I'm hoping to come back before it gets cold.

I used the Mind Body app to sign up for a beginner class though I'm more advanced beginner. There were three of us on the clay court with Ben as our teacher. He gave fantastic instruction and was patient and charming. The tennis center has adult and junior classes, a gift shop with everything you need, friendly staff and friendly pricing. Prices are great for Manhattan and the company has three locations - 59th and York, 89th and York hidden in an apartment building, and another hidden INSIDE Grand Central Station. If you're suffering from insomnia, you can rent a court into the wee hours:-) 10 and 20 packs make their pricing comparable to Queens, and a steal for Manhattan. You pick your classes at your convenience on the app and can cancel without penalty with 24 hours notice. This flexibility is unheard of at other tennis sites in NYC I look forward to my next lessons at one of their sites. Highly recommended for tennis players at all levels.

The pool is in the basement of Trinity School. No view, not fancy. There is a very small 10 foot…read moredeep pool, then a larger 4 foot deep lap pool. Families swim in the lane nearest the locker rooms, but there are several others for lap swimmers. The place is primarily for the school's use, but it's open to members of the local community for an annual fee (prorated based on when during the year you sign up). The public hours are very limited -- check the website (google "trinity swim club") to be sure it's going to be worth it to you. If you decide it is, just print out the application and send it in per the instructions, and they'll let you know when you've been processed and you can go in to get your photo ID (just ask at the front desk). The locker room is bare bones but clean and serviceable: showers, toilets, lockers, benches, hand dryers placed at varying levels, useful for drying hair. We've been twice so far with our two year old, on weekend afternoons in the summer, and both times it was very uncrowded and the lap pool was a nice 84 degrees. However, friends who use the pool during the school year said that the pool was substantially colder then (presumably for the swim team). Two very nice lifeguards were on duty and all the swimmers very nice. A bunch of pool noodles and kickboards were available for use, even some spare goggles. You have to wear a swim cap, but they've got a handful on hand if you forget yours at home. You're supposed to go in through the locker rooms and you have to shower before going in the pool. They are not huge sticklers and they were kind enough to overlook our getting things wrong our first time there. In short, it's not a fancy place, but if you're in the close neighborhood and just want a place to swim, and the hours work for you, it's a safe, clean, convenient facility with nice staff.

If you are in the market for a Masters Swim Team, I highly suggest this one. The reason I picked it was because on the their website they said they didn't tolerate bullying of any kind. That sealed the deal. Great coaches, good group of people, and hard workouts. In terms of Baruch's pool. The actual dug in pool is good. The bathrooms leave a lot to be desired. For months, the drains in the showers didn't drain. They recently fixed that, but one of the benches by the lockers broke. Now there's only one and a chair or two stashed in the corner. Of all of the university pool locker rooms and pool locker rooms in general, this one has the most water on the floor. There is hardly any space, where it's not wet, to set your stuff down as you change. I think Baruch should consider floor mats or something. There has to be an alternative. Anyways, thumbs up for the team and thumbs down for Baruch.

These include Community Centers, Field Houses, and Nature Centers and offer services such as indoor pools, weight rooms, basketball courts, dance studios, boxing rings, art studios, game rooms and libraries. The Hansborough center is mostly a gym/sport destination (though they are opening a computer room soon). I go here to work out - lifting weights, cardio on the machines, walking on the track, and sometimes swimming. They have a few classes and offer some after school stuff for kids. I don't know how crowded this place gets on evenings and weekends since I come in the middle of the day, but it seems well-used and therefore well kept. Plus, it's in a historic part of Harlem. The best thing is the price. $50/year for most centers, $75/year for ones with a pool. If you get a membership to one, you can visit ANY rec center in the system in any of the 5 boroughs. If you're looking for a place to work out and have basic needs, then a City Gym is a good choice. This one in particular if you live uptown. They're not all this nice, and the one in Chelsea is rumored to be even nicer. I'd do some investigating to see if the center near you is a place you'd spend time. If you come here, don't be fooled by the 134th street address. What you want to do is walk east along 135th (if you're coming from the B/C or 2/3 stations) until you come to Lennox Terrace apartment complex (just east of Malcolm X Blvd./Lennox Ave.). You'll see a little street that runs behind the building along the parking lot. Turn in there. The Rec center is on the left on a tiny strip of street labeled, helpfully, 134th. Don't confuse it with the Joseph Kennedy rec center at the end of the street.

Even the fearful children who cries due to water phobia and refuses to get into the pool, Tommy is the one who has a special talent and can persuade and teach with ease. I have withnessed it personally with my seven year old son. He would patiently teach the swimming techniques and follow through with the repetitive strokes, whether it is free style, backstroke, breaststroke. Can you believe my son, who almost drowned last summer, can now swim freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke? I am very appreciative to Tommy and Seahorse Fitness. The facility is neatly setup with towel and shower stalls. The indoor pool is consistently about 75-78 degrees temperature all year round. There are lap swimming lanes and general swim sessions. All swimmers must use goggles and swim caps. The locker room is a little bit outdated, but I believe the primary focus is the teaching staff and lifeguards on duty. There is always a lifeguard everytime I visit. The instructors are very capable, friendly, patient and experienced. Each instructors have their own specialty. One teaches butterfly extremely well.
