We were told that residents would be given one-on-one care and attention, like hair brushing, etc. Yeah, right... Aids don't even talk to residents, let alone stimulate them. Let's start with the fact that no one wears a name tag so that they cannot be identified by patients. They assume that everyone is suffering from dementia and can no longer read. They have ZERO CARE for any patient. Pain medication isn't administered when it should be, med techs have horrible attitudes and sit in the beauty parlor talking to one another rather than paying attention to family members asking medication to be administered (took over an hour for someone to come, and we were met with a literal "what do you want?"), food is taken away from residents when they don't eat, rather than coaxing attempts to help them eat. My grandmother's diamond and emerald ring was stole right off her finger, and when we were shocked and asked where it was we were told "oh, well because the residents are demented they often give their things away." The ring was tight on her finger and she would have never, ever, taken it off. We know that a med tech stole it right off her person. The attitude of everyone working there disgusts me. Since residents are mostly demented they treat them like absolute garbage. It's true abuse, and we will be riding a complaint all the way to the county and beyond. My grandmother's hospice nurse came the day after she was removed and was shocked at how much her demeanor Do not send your loved one here. It is a true hell hole and should be shut down. They offer residents a full cafeteria and there are plenty of games and books around the facility. There is also a brand new library that opened in early 2014. If you want to be a resident you'd better get on a waiting list as I've heard the waiting list is about 10 years. It is well worth it in my opinion.

Our Board of Directors, CEO, Finance Officer, Marketing etc are not able to adequately answer what I consider a reasonable question. Here it is and I've been asking this question for the past 2-3 years and other residence have expressed the same frustration over the same issue long before I got here. "How are our Monthly Fees determined"? What elements/cost factors make up a determination to charge a particular monthly fee (which increases every year)? All we get is "it's complicated." Or some vague well it's, not just square footage, it's other things but they cannot, or chose not, to delineated those factors. Worse yet, if they don't know, we need someone else handling our management. We pay our CEO very handsomely ($250K annually) and to not be able to tell the people paying his salary how they are being billed is unconscionable to me and causes questions about handling of funds. Before signing to live here, I asked the same question and still couldn't get an answer and if I declined to sign, they would just go to the next person on a long waiting list. The turn over of Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants (C.N.A.) is overwhelming and never been seen at our facility before! They need a change from top down and do something to attract and retain staff. A sign-on bonus and retention bonus would be a start. Along with shift differentials for staff working 2nd & 3rd shifts. This is becoming too stressful for current staff having to work extra hours to fill in for vacancies. We've even had to bring in Agency Nurses for coverage. Something we've never done before here at GR.

My father decided on that 1st visit that "this was the place for him", and fortunately there was an apartment that would be available to him in a week's time. Unfortunately, as is often the case with elderly parents, we experienced a medical "emergency" with my Dad several days before his scheduled move-in. The amazing team at Abbotswood moved mountains to get him in-house, and under their expert Living Well @ Home skilled nursing care...an answer to our prayer as we could not give him the care he needed. The team at Abbotswood is enthusiastic, respectful, responsive and incredibly professional! The grounds are beautiful! The interiors are updated and bright! The restaurants serve wonderful food, and are accommodating for each resident's particular needs! I doubt you will find anything in the Triad that is even close to the gem that Abbotswood is!
