Absolutely breathtaking. Visiting Mesa Verde was one of those rare experiences where the landscape…read moreand history come together in a way that truly stays with you. Seeing the ancient cliff dwellings carved into the canyon walls is incredible--but what made it even more special were the sweeping mountain views in the distance, some still capped with snow. The contrast of colors--deep reds, warm earth tones, and crisp whites--felt almost unreal. There's a peacefulness here that's hard to describe. It's quiet, expansive, and grounding. You don't just "see" Mesa Verde--you feel it. Tip: Give yourself at least 4 hours to explore properly. There's a lot to take in, and you don't want to rush it. Also, if you're hoping to go on one of the guided tours into the dwellings, plan far ahead--those book out months, sometimes even a year in advance. A must-see if you appreciate history, nature, and moments that take your breath away.

The other end has a bookshop and a small museum that gives context to the history of the area. Since the national park is so large, I had to ask a ranger for clarification to see what areas of the park were open. Wetherill Mesa is currently closed due to construction. There's also free wifi (you can use it to download the NPS app and get more information during your visit) and clean bathrooms.

I made a comment to my husband that this was a place people came to retire in. That being said, there was not many places for us to find souvenirs for our family! This shop was one of maybe three that we visited and where we ended up buying our souvenirs. The shop is split up into two main sections. The front is where the more delicate and fragile homemade/community made items were located. The items were a little pricey in the front. I get it, it's homemade and the skill and labor that goes into it comes with a cost; however, nothing worth the price caught our eyes. The back was where the touristy items/homemade bath/spa items were. We browsed both areas, but we eventually only bought items in the back of the store. I liked that there were testers for the spa items, like the lotions and sprays. I would have regretted buying some of them just based off the names. We also bought some T shirts that were half off, which was a really good deal! As for the service, no one really spoke to us while we were there. We didn't mind since we like to just browse and shop at our own pace. Especially being tourists, not really looking for anything specific. The lady that checked us out was friendly.
