I just got back from having an emergency tooth extraction done by Dr. Engel of the Oral Surgery…read moreGroup, and on the ride home, I said to my Lyft driver, "That's the first business I've ever been to where everyone seems to love their job." And, truly, every person I encountered, from scheduling the appointment to the financial person, was kind and caring. Weirdly, this oral surgery was the highlight of my day! This is mainly due to the warm, welcoming, supportive environment that I've just left.
Since we're in the middle of a pandemic, of course, the office has to take precautions, and they did: they take your temperature, you must fill out a form with such questions as, "Do you have a runny nose or sore throat," and everything is wiped down appropriately -- even the clipboard with the paperwork on it after I'd touched it.
During the extraction, I realized that Dr. Engel must have a background in education in some way, because he explained everything so well. I also appreciated that he made a point of reassuring me during the surgery. "Doing good," he said. "It's going well." After the surgery was done, I was led to a patient recovery area where I sat for half an hour or so, and was given gauze and after-care instructions.
I wish I could remember the names of all the kind staff members who took care of me, but here are some of them: Dr. Engel, Althea, Faiza, Denise, Kelly, Melissa, and Caroline. Even during a pandemic and behind masks, the compassion and warmth of the staff came through, and for that, I am grateful.
