If I could give Hoerr Nursery a -10 I would. I purchased 2 Junior Giant Arborvitaes in the fall.The instructions state they're excellent in large container. I purchased two huge containers and planted, watered and mulched them. They did not make it through the winter. I took photos but the manager said they are not supposed to be planted in container. I think due to the economy the employees are instructed to deny all possible returns. Therefore if you buy from them do not expect them to honor the warranty. read more

We spent the afternoon wandering around, looking at all of the gorgeous plants. What stood out to me though was the endless kindness the workers showed my kids, and it was SO genuine. 1. My 7 year old was sitting on a large cart and a worker came up and said would you like a ride?!? And struck up a conversation with her 2. In one of the green houses a young worker heard my daughter ask "how do they get those plants down" and the worker came up to us and said can I show you!!? And she went and got "the plunger" and showed us (at this point I'm seriously just amazed and feel Ike I'm on a kids field trip) 3. My 4 year old tripped over a small potted tree on the ground and the workers were more concerned about her than the tree 4. At checkout a sweet lady came out of her office just to ask if the girls could have suckers. The flowers were gorgeous and there was a nice selection made, but the kindness of the staff was out of this world. Way to go you guys. We will be back read more

I went to Hoerr nursery to purchase a pot for my plant. Last year I had purchased a big pot for my succulent from Hoerr and this summer I had an accident and the pot fell from my porch and broke. I was looking for a to purchase another pot fo ray succulent. When I walked in with the broken piece of the pot the woman at the register was very rude. She said very loudly "Is that a return." I brought the piece broken pot that had the bar code to see if they could find a similar if not the same size pot. The service at Hoerr "leaves much to be desired" and it is not the first time that I have been mad to fell unwelcome at that store. I wonder if they are prejudiced against black people. read more

Beware. I had the city replace some plants and a tree due to a storm sewer repair. One of the plants, an expensive one, planted in summer, didn't make it thru the winter. When I called about it, the woman on the phone became very rude when she found out the city, and not myself, had purchased the plant. She told me they sell the plants to the city at wholesale and they were not under warranty. I asked her why that made a difference. Apparently they dont guarantee the plants unless they make money on them. I don't understand why they stand behind a product only if they make a profit on it, as they are the same plants from the same place. Is there no warranty on end of season closeouts as they didn't make enough money on them? Either you are a principle based business or you're not. it's a shame our tax dollars are being wasted on a business with sub-par principles. read more

Not happy with their return policy. Purchased a boomerang lilac. It died within a year. Hoerr did replace it. Second one died within a year. I had all my receipts & tags. They would not replace it. Hoerr stayed that their policy was one replacement. This is really not right. Especially after paying a premium price for the plants. read more

I've been here multiple times this past summer. I've purchased about four tons of compactable gravel and a whole lot of mulch from their bulk yard. For sure they're not the cheapest around but I've dealt with Hoerr's over the years for items I couldn't get elsewhere or when I needed some expertise and have been well-served. They definitely know how to build customer loyalty -- I once called for some sod and they said they had it in stock. I drove over there only to find they did not, which really upset me. However, they defused the situation by offering to deliver it at no charge and throwing in an extra pallet. read more

I was in Hoerr's last week for the purchase of my garden flowers for the year. There were several customers walking around as well as my friend and myself. We couldn't find one plant that I wanted and a wonderful Hoerr's associate came over to assist us. She spent several minutes showing us different plants, even going to get some from another area, and recommending a couple of plants. She helped us fill our cart so we were done quickly. I really appreciated her help and kindness. I believe her name was Wilva. I will definitely recommend Hoerr's to anyone. Called a few times for lawn and landscaping service, but never received a call back. Since my friend uses them, she put us in contact. They over-charged for their services, above our contracted amount and then used creative accounting with my payments. The billing issues still aren't fixed. Their service is horrible as well. They killed half of my lawn along with the flowers when they put new mulch down. read more

We own an older home, and needed some ideas for how to re-landscape the front yard. They have a new design-only service, where you spend $150, and they come out to the house, take soil samples, talk with you, and then write up a plan. And oh, yes, they give you back a $75 gift card good when you buy plants. All the installation is DIY, which suits us just fine. Since we are entirely clueless about what to plant, or what constitutes "full" or "part" sun, or shade, or whatever, and because $75 for a couple hours of a real pro's time seemed cheap, we figured we would give it a try. Well, this was Tuesday morning, and when I came home from work Tuesday night, we had a plan, a shopping list, some suggestions for where to "re-home" existing plants...everything. And it looks really cool! Only thing I wish we could have gotten was an elevation of the house to see what it "might" look like (depending on how well we do!). Would definitely, definitely recommend this service to anyone who likes to garden and needs a bit of perspective. ******** Just a quick update: we've almost finished installing our layout, and everything looks great. Pricing on all the plants/shrubs was reasonable, and comes with a 1-year guarantee, so if any of them die, we will get a replacement. (Which we may need, because the rabbits think one of the plants looks delicious.) Still a fan...of Hoerr's, that is...not the rabbits. read more

I am in awe of the incredible service I received from Hoerr. Over the years I have bought many plants and flowers from Hoerr, then in the fall of 2011 I purchased 12 flowering trees for my driveway. I received a good deal on them which included delivery and planting. During recent storms, two of the flowering crabapple trees were snapped by high winds and lying on the ground. I spoke with my contact at Hoerr to see if they could be splinted and repaired, and before I knew it, two new trees were delivered and planted in my yard! I received a call from an arborist to tell me of the replacement and I was in shock. I never would have imagined a nursery replacing those trees after 1.5 years. Amazing! They also did an evaluation of the existing trees to find that the entire row had bore damage, so they recommended a drench to save them. The professionals at Hoerr were in constant contact throughout the replacement, and very knowledgable and responsive to my questions. I still cannot believe it--this is the best service I have ever received anywhere, in any industry! All my future landscaping purchases will be made with Hoerr. No question! read more
