I guess they allow businesses to come in and do that often, which I think is really nice. My GPS was a little bit off so I'll be updating that but as soon as you cross the overpass it's the big white house on the left side of the street. I didn't realize that was it because I didn't realize it was a house. I went in December so it was a bit cold but we were specifically going to see the reindeer and I was excited! It was the cutest little place there were Christmas trees everywhere and people were having a great time. This business offers so many wonderful amenities, I was surprised at everything that they had to offer. There was a train for all ages that was safe and secure so nobody could fall out, a smaller garage like building where they were selling crafty items and doing some glitter face painting, a fire pit where you can sit down and warm up, a little trailer where they were selling hot cocoa and donuts, that was the cutest by the way! There was also a Big white Barn where you could go in and look at all the amazingly beautiful crafts, soaps, lotions, and home decor that they had for sale. They weren't even expensive either, you would expect some of those items to be more on the expensive side but they were definitely affordable. I ended up getting a hot cocoa sign and a prairie Moon farm coffee mug. The mug was $8.50. We walked over to the entrance to go into the reindeer encounter. As you go in, there are many photo opportunities, an area where the kids can sit down, warm up and do some coloring! After that we went over to say hi to the alpacas, they look very happy and healthy! A couple turkey's crossed our paths as we walked over to the reindeer enclosure. They were absolutely beautiful and they looked so happy and confortable! There was a girl standing by the reindeer enclosure and she was offering us Willow branches to feed the reindeer for free. She was very knowledgeable about the reindeers and talking to us about their antlers. There was a little girl there and she was really concerned because the reindeers antler was bleeding slightly. She gave us reassurance that even though they looked like that, they did not hurt, it was part of the process for when the reindeers drop their antlers. I appreciated so much that she knew about them and was educating us and the people around us about them! This is such a great place I think that it might be somewhere that I add to my itinerary more often. I hear that they have many seasonal opportunities with lots of fun stuff! They take part in Spoon River drive where they have lots of vendors there selling their items, they have plenty of seasonal activities for children and adults too including a big bubble pool in the summer. In the fall, they have a whole pumpkin patch along with seasonal drinks and foods and in the spring they have a flower market. I'm definitely looking forward to driving out here again next season to see what they have to offer!

I was in town from Florida and this was a great place to savor the Midwest fall experience. I selected one of the beautiful mum plants for my Aunt and Uncle. I loved the pumpkins and squash of all sizes displayed in various bins and baskets. I wanted to back my car up to the gift shop and a take a lot of items home. They offer local popcorn, jams and candy apples, decor items and cooking tools like aprons with catchy phrases. They had a lamp I really wanted but was not sure it would fit in my car with my luggage. I found the staff very nice and willing to interact with you. They would answer questions but also let you browse and look as much as you wanted. Snother surprising thing was the animals were so friendly. Some of the alpacas came right up to me over the fence and the kitties got up from sunning themselves to greet me. I loved the clever signs and the old truck parked in front of the sunflower field. If you are looking for fall photo back drops this is the place. They serve drinks and have a picnic area. Although I was in town too early for the pumpkin festival, I felt like I got a good sampling of activities on my visit to Ackerman's Farm and the parking was very convenient.

Review Visit: October 8th, 2014…read more Partridge Point Orchard is on point! Talk about a hidden gem. While expanding my local travels, I stumbled upon Partridge Point Orchard... not in the traditional sense. I was browsing Google Maps for recreational areas to visit and came across this place. I asked a few friends who are from the area and they never even heard about it. So as I usually do, I scrounge up at least one friend and we head on our there. What a day it was. The weather was perfect. Not too hot, not too cold. A gentle breeze. Isolated from the majority of the populace. Parking is a bit limited, but this is a small, family run business, so it's to be expected. We were greeted by a lovely lady who told us that we have free reign to walk around and we can pick all the apples we want. They had your standard varieties with one or two I never heard of before. The land that the Orchard is on is serene. There was a small pond we stopped at and just took nature in. My kind of peace. Any who, we ended up grabbing one apple a piece and when we went to pay, they said we could just keep them as it was just two and it was a drop in the bucket. I still paid them a $1 for them (I think their rates were $0.54 a piece) as a compromise. Overall, a really great place if you want to visit an actual orchard versus a tourist-y one such as Tanners Orchard. Well deserving of a 5/5 in my books... err blog!

They have a Facebook page but we noticed no Yelp page. It seems they are a relatively new family business but they are so friendly and kind. The farm provides the buckets and you can have your pick of a large or small bucket to use. They were open 8-8 yesterday and today. Price per pound was $3. You have to check the Facebook page to see when the different patches of the farm are open for picking. As of this morning there was still plenty left to pick from. Definitely wear a hat and bring sunscreen! They also sell their own raw honey until sold out. If you don't want to pick they have a nice seating area in the field as well as some chairs on the porch (with shade).
