So, I may have found my new favorite close-to-home running path. Hobson Bay Walkway, you have wooed me.
The path starts right past Orakei Train Station looping down to the right along the new(ish) wooden boardwalk, past local kid's artwork (nice touch), across mangroves and onto a beautiful tour around the edge of Hobson Bay.
The full walkway is best done at low tide as certain parts along the way are simply beach. Being along water's edge, the path is mostly flat - but the longer you venture along, the more rocky/rugged it gets.
Sadly however, the walkway is a dead-end. The first time I came I thought there MUST be a way to connect to Tamaki drive (you get soooo close) but, alas, there isn't. I know because I was born with this crazy gene that makes me want to explore EVERYTHING. Spoiler: if you do manage to climb yourself over a series of rocky dunes you will eventually end up on a series of bush trails that lead to people's backyards (oops).
Go forth and explore! read more
