Its engine "runs hot," even though it doesn't register a high-temperature on the dashboard thermometer. These Promasters have a reputation for running hot, but risking a stall-out in the desert was intimidating. Not only did the mechanics at Mitchel's squeeze me in for a pre-trip checkup, they took my Promaster for a test drive, & afterwards assured me that all was well under the hood. When it came time to pay the bill, they floored me when they said "No charge--there was nothing wrong." Each shop told me that I would need a brand new transmission which seemed weird to me since the issue was an overheating issue. I just kept going farther West looking for another opinion and that's when I came across Jamisons Shop. The owner (Jeremy) told me that he would be more than happy to take a look at the truck. When I got there, he did a quick inspection and proceeded to ramble off a handful of big mechanic words to his helper and told me that he can get it fixed for 1/3 of the price since the solution was to never replace the transmission. His shop's yard looked like the largest dealership on this side of the Mississippi yet the turn around was extremely fast. My truck is still up and running and actually sounds better than when I purchased it. -My main point in all of this rambling was that he- -Correctly diagnosed the issue -Was upfront with the quote -Clearly explained what would change after the repair -More than fair with the turnaround time I wish we were allotted a 6 star review once a year so I could use mine on this honey hole of an auto repair shop.

Petro couldn't help us, so we called Desert Diesel -- and within an hour, Victor pulled up. First impression: Professional. Straightforward. No ego. The kind of guy who walks up, shakes your hand, and gets right to work. He hooked up his diagnostic computer immediately. I handed him the fault codes Petro printed, and he didn't waste a second -- just started eliminating issues one by one. When something didn't add up, he didn't guess. He checked, re-checked, and crawled all over that engine until he chased the problem down. At one point, he pulled the intake piping and upper components to inspect everything properly -- not just looking, but testing each system the right way. No shortcuts. No "good enough." Eventually, he found it: Injector #1 was completely dead. He made calls, checked availability, and even after hours he found a replacement. The boss wanted the repair done the next morning, so Victor came right back first thing and worked straight through the day and late into the night -- all the way until 2 a.m. -- because the truck needed multiple regens and deeper work than anyone expected. During the regen periods, when most mechanics would just sit around, he used the time to keep inspecting and double-checking other parts of the system. When we had questions, he explained things clearly -- not talking down to us, not overloading us -- just solid, real answers from someone who knows his trade inside and out. The next morning we met him at his shop to grab the keys and wrap everything up. Same energy: respectful, calm, professional. Just a good man who stands behind his work. Price was more than fair for a mobile after-hours job, especially for the amount of labor, time, and expertise he put in. You can literally see where every dollar went.
