Its engine "runs hot," even though it doesn't register a high-temperature on the dashboard thermometer. These Promasters have a reputation for running hot, but risking a stall-out in the desert was intimidating. Not only did the mechanics at Mitchel's squeeze me in for a pre-trip checkup, they took my Promaster for a test drive, & afterwards assured me that all was well under the hood. When it came time to pay the bill, they floored me when they said "No charge--there was nothing wrong." So I promised then to bring the campervan back when its next tuneup is due--and I'm happy to report that we made the desert crossing in 109-degree heat with not the slightest problem. Many thanks! I pulled up 40 minutes before they were supposed to close to get gas and use the restroom. Put my credit card into the pump got it started and ran it. I asked the guy working there who was completely dis-interested in his job if they had any and he said he had already put them away for the night and as they were closing soon even though they still had 40 minutes and I couldn't see a thing out of my windshield Luckily the expensive pump was so slow that it only put 12 dollars worth of gas into my car in 5 minutes, so I just pulled the pump out and went down the street to a much better gas station.

After installing the new battery, the car still did not start so we arranged for tow to a local shop. We discovered that NAPA sold us a "new" battery that was almost four years old and was also bad. Returned to NAPA and found out that their only other available battery was also over three years old. We then found another battery at another shop. Needless to say, I am incredibly disappointed with NAPA passing off old batteries as new and causing additional expenses. We all know it is not a pleasant experience to have car issues. But it's exasperating to have the issue complicated by NAPA passing off old inventory as new and causing customers additional and unneeded costs. I highly recommend avoiding this particular store in favor of other local auto parts retailers.
