We feel like we've been duped. This company has lost all credibility, for you cannot believe what…read moreyou see in the pictures. We booked property #718 located at 60 Old Purchase Rd almost nine months ago. We are a young family of 5, three children six years and younger, that has to put in a lot of time for planning and frankly saving for a trip like this. When we arrived we knew we were in for a long week ahead. The house was a complete beat up, run down, tired mess. We arrived to a house with no hand soap, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels, useable pillows, mixing bowls, Saran Wrap/tin foil/ziploc bags, trash bags, cutting boards, missing furniture, do I dare continue? We let the broker Paula know how upset we were and frankly there was no sympathy nor help offered. Someone dropped off two pillows, but that's where the help ended. We notified the company of a towel rack ripped off the wall and that wasn't rectified either. We were supposed to be at the house to have the caretaker access and fix the damage, but we hated the house so much we were out the door at 10AM and didn't dare come home before 5PM. We weren't going to be coordinating someone to fix damage we didn't do during our vacation. At the end of the day, all we needed was somewhere comfortable to put our feet up or a good night's sleep, but that wasn't even possible with the conditions of the mattresses and the couch and chairs. We love the beauty of this island that we have been visiting for nearly 7 years, but this last trip might be the last for a while.

I needed to spend several hours of our family's summer vacation cleaning the house myself. When we sent through photos/videos of the condition to our Sandpiper rental agent Judy Murray, she agreed that it was unacceptable and that we should look for alternate accommodations, even offering to help. Judy confirmed in writing that "the owner would refund our money." Therefore, we booked last-minute accommodations for the back half of our stay and moved out of the house. Afterwards, we were refunded for 15% of our stay with no explanation. Then, they went radio silent on us. Judy was totally pleasant to us throughout the process, but in the end, she didn't keep her word and didn't take accountability. DO NOT USE SANDPIPER and definitely do not book 19 Navy Way in Edgartown.

Here it is: Shorelands 44-2 | Condo in Kennebunk Despite having charming photos and even looking "nice" inside; our trip here was a nightmare from start to finish. First, the electronic lock on the door wasnt functioning and we were stuck out in the dark waiting for vacasa to give us access via a hide a key. However, even that key didn't work well and kept getting stuck in the door. One appeal of this property was it's "dog friendly" policy. This enabled us to bring our dog (great right?l. Not really. My friend spent the first evening wiping urine off the baseboards left by a previous tenant. We called Vacasa and they said they would notify the property manager about the urine on the walls and the leaking air conditioner. Yes, the AC couldn't be used without creating water damage on the furniture below it so we opted to keep it off. We really thought our problems would be resolved, but they were not. Our final straw was when we discovered the powerful odor of human urine in the shower. Absolutely foul. Best part? We were expected to stay on the property if we wanted "any kind of refund". I told them I was still in possession of the cottage then went and spent 700 dollars on a hotel for our last two nights. We were reimbursed a measely 163 and vacasa denied that any of the damage we noticed was real. Vacasa will gaslight you if things go wrong. Do not book with them at ANY rental there is available. If you want to find out more just type vacasa and scam into your google browser.

What was terribly disappointing was the availability of the amenities that had drawn us to this choice. When we arrived we planned to use the grill for our dinner. We were surprised to see that it was locked closed with a bicycle lock. Not locked to the deck...actually locked closed. It took us 45 minutes to obtain the code to unlock it so that we could use it. None of the managers available seemed to know the code and much calling around to many people finally revealed it. Later on in the visit we went to use the hot tub. When it was opened we found the water green, scum on the walls and slimy seats. Disgusting and so disappointing! Later that day we went to use the grill again and almost immediately ran out of propane. When I called to see if we could obtain another tank the person texting with me insisted that the grill was somehow linked to the gas fireplace. Clearly this wasn't the case. No new propane could be obtained on the Saturday night so we cooked on the stovetop. Sadly when we tried to keep the smoke level down with the overhead vent we discovered that it didn't work. I blame the managing agent, Vacasa for these inconveniences. Clearly this is a giant organization with many layers and no great communication between them. When we got the rental bill I was shocked to realize that the fees (minuses taxes) amounted to 66.8% of the house fee. Vacasa offered us a 3.6% refund for our lost amenities but when I requested a more reasonable refund they declined and refused to allow me to communicate with the local property manager. The email exchanges about this request involved 4 different people. After doing a little research it seems that this managing company is the largest rental management entity in the business. How sad that they are so incompetent! Or perhaps they have no motivation to do better. From now on when I am searching on VRBO or AirBNB I will attempt to avoid any properties that are managed by Vacasa! When I looked back at the property management agent it was listed as Tahoe Exclusive Vacation Rentals. I guess a little digging might save one some angst.

First of all, let me begin by saying this is not airbnb - it's better. It's cheaper than airbnb, and the owner of the rental agency lives nearby, and is able to help you with any questions you may have. The location was amazing for the price that we paid, and the house was spotless with a huge yard. We had such a nice time strolling to the beach or taking a short drive into town. The house was also nice just for hanging around and playing games or whatever. I usually stay in airbnbs when I travel, but this was a nice change -- it felt good to support a local business, which made me feel like I was helping to build the community AND saving money. I would highly recommend The Cape Housing Company for any Cape Cod vacation. You won't regret it!

My family has rented houses on the Cape every summer for many years…read more Usually we rent from families directly but our family has grown out of many of the homes we have rented in the past, so we went through this agency this time. We rented a large house which sleeps 14 people this summer. The first thing was we had to rent the linens separately. OK fair enough-it is extra work and expense to wash those after renters-even though we usually do much of the laundry before we leave a rental anyway...so we get to the house, all 14 of us and there is one roll of toilet paper, and one kitchen hand towel for 14 people-really? When we called the agency, we were told we were to provide all of our own paper goods. OK yeah, its not our first time on the merry go round here-we know we need to go to the store but to not put even a 'starter' roll of toilet paper in each bathroom-come on. That's just cheap. For several thousand dollars a week, you provide a bit of TP and a few creature comforts. There were also not enough waste baskets for the bathrooms and bedrooms. And the kitchen policy was so militant in terms of leaving no food that there were no condiments or olive oils or anything..... Every other place we've rented has had a few nice things left behind so you don't have to get EVERYTHING to stock the kitchen. And we in turn leave things for the next renters. There was a sign on the refrigerator about these policies...it read a bit like a warning for teenagers renting a party house. Then there was the cleaning policy: the cleaning was extra, a lot extra, but did not include the linens or the floors or the stove, ...ok we are also apparently supposed to clean the house too-sweep floors, etc. and pay the fee. There are so many cool places on the Cape, there is no reason to put up with this lack of accommodation for a big expensive rental.
