The staff were very friendly and spoke very good English, our food arrived quickly and piping hot and was stunning! After trying to enjoy the open air of Klunkerkranich on a miserably cold and drizzly night, our…read moregroup sought refuge in a warm bowl of pho. Vietbowl delivered. We were seated immediately at a long, wooden table in the middle, as if we had come for a late fall feast. Our server was extremely efficient, swooping in with menus and checking in to make sure we knew what the menus detailed (some in our group did not speak/read German). I ordered the vegan/veggie pho - mushrooms, tofu, thick udon noodles, tons of cilantro and shredded radish. The broth was perfectly balanced. I was afraid it would be salty as usual, but it had enough of a sour kick and not too much salt that I wasn't left gasping for a glass of water (which I would have had to pay for anyway, because this is Europe). The serving size was extremely generous and at only 6.70€, I couldn't have asked for a better meal to share on our last night in Berlin. The restaurant also takes card, tg, and not just EC debit or cash. We also happened to go during the restaurant's opening weekend and each got a 20% discount. Ty vietbowl, you really saved us that night (now please come to Hamburg).

I thought the food was good, but perhaps the items I got weren't my forte. I should have gotten the wontons instead of the chicken with peanut sauce. I personally wasn't a fan of the initial service. I stood there for about 7 minutes looking to order and the lady saw me yet continued sorting the silverware and walking around even after I asked if I could order. However, at the end of our meal someone in our group broke a glass and they same lady was very kind about it.

I actually used to live in this area two years ago, but even so, it's already changed quite a bit since I have left, and there were some new places to check out. One such place is From Hanoi With Love, which sounds like a cute restaurant based on its name. That aside, the reviews seemed good and their Facebook page even has the "Vegan Vegetarian" classification selected. Let me tell you now that if you are vegan or vegetarian, you won't have many choices here. But I'm getting ahead of myself. The interior here is really quite clean and minimal. It's small, with maybe seating for 15 people max. There is tasteful art on the wall. No complaints. The menus are kind of strangely put together, but they have German on one side and English on the other. There is also a menu board with specials (that are different from the regular menu) so be sure to check those out, though be warned they are only in German. The food? Well, lots and lots of meat. Of course, you can sub sojafleisch (soy meat) in dishes, but be warned that about 80% of the meals are made with meat or fish sauce, so even your "vegetarian" meal will have meat in it. There was a whole page of "street food," meaning starters, and some of these were a bit more flexible with the meat/no meat thing. Of the four or so mains that were veggie friendly, there was the pho, the glass noodle salad, a green coconut curry, and some kind of tomato sauce dish (which sounded strange). My companion and I both opted for the green curry dish with fake meat. The food came out fast and it was fine, but nothing outstanding. I liked the spice of the curry, but the fake meat was pretty gross. It wasn't that it was bad, but there was no nice presentation of it, and it was just kind of gray-ish strips of unseasoned meat. I think the meal would have been better if they used tofu instead of soy meat, but that's a personal preference. All in all, the food was filling, and our bill for two dishes and two drinks came to under €15. So I wouldn't say the place is bad per se. I just didn't feel like it was a place I would ever seek out. Stop by for a quick, warm meal if you're in the area, but if you are veggie, you might consider someplace else.

We get there and order (spring rolls, tofu pho soup, & fried chicken nodule) - the fried chicken came as beef. Now there is a big difference between meat and chicken in german so the woman who took the order clearly made a mistake. As my partner tells her kindly that we ordered something else she starts SCREAMING at my partner saying she refuses to change the dish. THIS is NO WAY to talk to a customer. So we decide to leave and pay only for the things we ate. They (her and I assume her husband) start screaming & insist we pay for the order they got wrong and that they refused to change. We refuse as we have already been screamed at and my partner never even got to eat the pho soup (& they refused to give us a take away package even after we paid for the soup). We decide to leave as we paid what was due minus the wrong order and the woman starts hitting me violently and called the police. We dealt with the police and eventually paid them because a plate of food isn't worth taking to court (they were eager to drop the 'stealing' charge particularly when they heard I would file a charge of assault & there were witnesses to prove it). The food was pretty bad to begin with but I have never been shouted, hit, & had to deal with police about anything before, let alone a plate of food. What was meant to be a romantic night out turned into a trauma. HORRIBLE FOOD & STAFF. NEVER GO TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT IF YOU BELIEVE THAT NO ONE SHOULD BE TREATED LIKE THIS OR IF YOU WANT YOUR MONEY'S WORTH.

A question of personal taste I guess. But they veggies felt fresh, the peanut sauce tasted great, and there's really not much more to ask from a little take-away place like this. Overall it all felt very fresh and clean, as I live around the corner I will definitely be back whenever I feel like a quick asian treat. If you are in the area and looking for something low-priced and quick to eat, this is a place I would recommend, but perhaps nothing you would travel across town for :)
