Arguably cheaper than most sporting/outdoor/electronic good stores, HMR Pioneer is a great place to find some pretty neat things for a very good deal. And sometimes, good deals become GREAT deals when their supposedly surplus prices are patted down by a sweet discount. A friend and I once went, supposedly to get lawn chairs that we could take with us on summer outings. From what we saw, they had some nice ones (in limited stocks though) going for a little over P1,000, which is admittedly quite pricey for what we had in mind. Instead, we found these jumbo, canvas, folding camping chairs. They were the last of their kind, at 6 feet tall, and with 6 cup holders each. Initially, they were going for about P800, but then were brought down to P400+, because they were both the display pieces. We were ecstatic!
But, given that their merchandise can go for so cheap, don't expect their quality to always be great. Another one of the reasons why our giant chairs were so heavily discounted, is because one of them was a bit run ragged on the edges. We just didn't mind; the chair was still fully functional, regardless.
And I will admit that I would limit my purchases to sporting/outdoor goods and electronics, and some furniture. I wouldn't buy the clothes or the shoes, just because I'm not sure who else might have worn them, and the merchandise tend to be a bit dusty.
Also, another tip: I would only go if I absolutely needed something specific. I wouldn't go for aimless shopping; there are too many fun things that would be nice to have, but you don't really have much room for in your life (like a giant chair, for example). read more
