First off, the place feels big. Has nice calming music playing in the background so it's a pleasant experience visiting and even sitting in the chair for some time. The wash was about the same length of time as a wash from other places here in Chinatown, but somehow it was significantly more enjoyable. The people here know what they're doing, and my scalp feels much better than it did before, and I didn't even know if was feeling anything before. Cut was ~30 minutes, and $28 + tip. Overall, it's on the pricier end of what I've experienced so far in Chinatown, although not by much. However, the quality of the cut was much better than others. In other places, it feels a bit more rushed or cursory, but I felt like I was getting focused attention on my cut. He spent a lot of it actually in touch up and layering, which was good attention to detail. Honestly one of the best cuts I've gotten in Chinatown. Definitely beats out in quality over other mainstays like Kevin's, but at a slightly higher price point.

Now I am stuck with a haircut where my deformed ear is visible for the whole world to see because the stylist decided to give me that haircut that she wanted to give me instead of the one that I asked for. I paid for my haircut with a card and departed in a polite manner, but the moment I hit the sidewalk, I could no nothing but scream profanity as the realization that I couldn't cover my deformed ear kicked in. Now I am not only out $18, but I am stuck with a haircut which leaves me open to yet more questions along the lines of "What's wrong with your ear?" I am so humiliated that I don't even want to be seen in public looking like this. I went in feeling good about myself and looking forward to the haircut I asked for, and I left with my self-esteem in the gutter. I get upset every time I catch my refection and see what she did to my appearance. I can't go out looking like this. In short, she was absolutely incompetent & unprofessional in providing a haircut according to the very simple instructions I gave her. She shouldn't be permitted to cut hair, and if she has a state license for cutting hair, it should be revoked. The only reason she's getting one star is because I can't give her zero stars. There is absolutely no excuse for this, and no apology or refund can do undo the damage. I'll have to wear a hat until my hair covers my deformed ear again. Thanks to a stylist who doesn't listen, I get to wear a hat to cover my deformed ear now. As a craftsman and a business owner, I can tell you that this is not how a professional renders a service to a client. **Update** I spoke with the stylist on the phone a short time ago about the refund she told me she would give me, and instead of telling me when I could come down & get it, she began making all manner of excuses as to why she shouldn't refund my money. This is the kind of experience you can expect to have with this hair stylist: first she will ruin your hair, then she will justify her poor work and back-peddle out of any refund she's already offered you. I should have looked at the other 1-Star reviews of this place, because it seems that those people all had a very similar experience to mine. As a small business owner myself, I'm very enthusiastic about supporting small businesses, but not if they're run by incompetent, unprofessional people who refuse to accept accountability for the damage they do, or offer fair compensation in return for those damages.

So I had my hair done by Shannon!! First of all they are the most comforting and welcoming person I've ever met! As a hairstylist myself I'm super anal about my hair being done, but Shannon completely blew my hair out of the water. They took my shaggy grown out buzz cut to a cute chic semi chealsi hair cut! Joey Rose, who is the owner of Rinse, is an absolutely phenomenal cutter and colorist. You cannot get an appointment with him unless you are referred by a current client. He is almost always fully booked. Joey had been cutting my hair for approximately 10 years, (having followed him from another salon before he opened Rinse) and it was never a bad cut. He took my short hair and as it was growing in, it never once looked anything other than perfect and easy to repeat myself. Joey is the only haircutter in my adult life, who told me that my hair would never look bad as it was growing out and he made certain that it never did. At that time, Joey had free rein to cut my hair however he wanted to: I trusted him implicitly. If Joey recommended a product, that is what I used. I drove over 100 miles round trip to have my hair cut. But a few months ago, I decided to cut my mid-back length hair short. The reason for this is because of ongoing medical problems with both of my arms that makes it too difficult to keep long hair. I brought a few photos of cuts that I liked, but Joey had a free hand to style the cut, as I always have because he knew my hair. Joey cut my hair three times as we were bringing the look up shorter and each cut was lovely until the last one. It looked absolutely beautiful when I left the salon, but after I washed it for the first time it was impossible to repeat the look that Joey had given me. It probably would have taken 30 minutes or less for Joey to fix the problem. I sent a text to Joey, that included a photo of my hair. His response was to TERMINATE ME AS A CLIENT, using that I could only come in on a fixed schedule as the cause. The fact that I always made anywhere from 3-4 appointments for my future cuts whenever I was in, and having to also work around the, at least 2 vacations that he takes per year, makes this statement specious. Please keep in mind that I was a client of Joey's for almost 10 years. WHAT I BELIEVE IS THE TRUE REASON that Joey terminated both my husband and myself as clients is because he was not making enough money when we came in. I believe that he wants only clients that are having coloring, or other processes done, as well as cutting and blowouts and spending more than $100 when they were in the salon, for just one person per 4-6 weeks. Summing up: IN MY OPINION, if you can get an appointment with Joey you will have a beautiful haircut, color or whatever process you are having done. But if you want him to keep you as a client, be ready to invest. Or maybe it was because, as the salon owner, he wasn't tipped....
