This 'salon' is so professional and the staff are just extremely friendly. I booked at a rather quiet time so I was in and out in less than 45 minutes but they offer you complimentary drinks and iPads for customers to play on while waiting. For a full cut it'll set you back just £17, an absolute bargain in the city centre, and though that doesn't include getting your hair washed it does leave you with a blowdry and styling. In a quiet moment, the silence is covered with some seriously good music tootling out of her stereo (Betty Davis, Nick Cave, '60s psych, rare funk... she's got the lot) and walls covered in ace pop-cultural trinkets. I like looking at the wall of Top of the Pops LP sleeves from the '70s. What I like most about my visits there are that she understands what you mean when you say "I want my hair like [Insert Obscure Celebrity Here]" or if you wanted 'a rockabilly haircut'. She'll help you out no end and has some cool products to keep your bonce looking ace (it's where I buy my pomade from). The staff are very friendly, greeting you warmly when you enter. They have a range of options available for a hair cut to match your budget. The Senior Stylists are the most expensive as the Junior Stylists are the cheapest. The shampoos and conditioners used and on sale in Aura are the expensive Tigi range. They smell delicious and make your hair feeling amazing. I've bought products from here when there has been a special offer for a shampoo and conditioner set and loved them. The stylists are very professional and really take the time to ensure you, and they, know exactly what you want. The trainees wash you hair in preparation for the cut and give you a lovely head massage when they apply the conditioner. The stylist then takes over to begin your cut. Again they take their time making sure they give you an excellent cut, blow drying it exactly how you want it. They also give you tips on styling your hair when you've washed it, and different ways you can wear your new style. They ask if you want any products and if you say yes they will recommend the best products for your hair, but if you decline they do not pressure you into buying anything. She was apologetic, but still, my glasses that are integral for me to see were broken. I couldn't see the end result of my haircut and was still charged the full price for it. (I needed assistance home/to cross the road because I could not see.) No manager was at the salon so called I the next business day to speak with one, but the person I spoke with was very suspicious and only after a lot of pressing was given the name of the manager. I also had to post to Facebook to try and get more information. I called again when I was instructed to, but again no manager was in. Finally after leaving my name and number did a manager finally call me back. And she was neither friendly nor willing to resolve my issue... I was not only blamed for my glasses being broken, but accused of knocking them off myself and causing their breakage. I challenged the manager; when one gets their haircut they tend not to move, but the manager was still defensive and blamed it on me. Finally it was agreed she would talk to her stylist and call me back to "verify" my story, but after two weeks I have not heard anything. It is shocking and I can't imagine what would happen or how a customer would be treated if an actual hair styling mistake was made. Customers beware.

In essence this is the kind of place you can find in local communities all over the country yet Tony's seems to think it is better than the rest without really doing much to back up the point. The prices here are a little above average for a service which is not and the waiting times can be extensive. If this was a simple and unpretentious hairdresser which claimed to be simply that, then it would be fine but my only problem is that Tony's thinks it is so much more.
