Hixson is wonderful-UNTIL HE ISN'T! Office staff is great. My husband and I, both 81, started seeing him about 6 months ago for back pain and hip pain. He was so kind and gentle with us both and our visits greatly improved our mobility and pain levels. Then one day, we went for our appointments when he was short with both of us. He was very rough with my spinal adjustment and he caused so much tissue damage in back and front rib cage I am still in a lot of pain. His treatment decreased my mobility so much that it has impacted my ability to care for my very ill husband of 62 years! During our times with him that day, he appeared to be very angry-as if he had just lost his temper. We have no idea what set him off. He is also the same age as we are, or of very similar age. I strongly recommend you think twice before using Hixson (title omitted due to lack of medical ethics). My husband is now in physical therapy due to increased pain in his hip and ribcage. read more

Such a sweet little office destined to make great, big changes in the lives of those who need it most! Dr. Hixson fixed me in a matter of minutes from days (years, even!) of neck and back pain. Minutes!! I was adjusted and felt great! Plus he was so gentle and kind, it scared me to see a chiropractor up until now. I can't wait to go back- and I heard about him word of mouth. When you're this good, the marketing does itself. I see why and I will always support this office as long as I live! It means everything to me to feel good in my body and have no pain. Thank you staff for being so great to the kiddos in the lobby too!! See you again soon!! read more

A chiropractor is someone you need to trust, and Dr. Hixson is one of the best! As far as adjustments go, Dr Hixson is great. I always leave feeling like every part that needed addressing was addressed. The office staff is super friendly as well. It us best to make an appointment but they try to get you in if at all possible. Office is nice and cozy so you are put you at ease. Only draw back is closed on Friday's so if last minute needs arise, you have to hold out til Monday. read more

Had Dr. Hixon not used a special machine to dissipate the calcium in my shoulder I would have had yet another surgery. I thank God for good people who truly care like Dr. Hixon and his team. The ladies at the front desk are so sweet and kind. read more

I threw my back out and I was pretty much incapacitated for a couple of weeks. I came across Dr. Hixson because my veterinarian was right next door. I couldn't be more satisfied with his treatment. He was so kind and gentle. I feel that he adjusted me very gently and perfectly. He didn't try to push any further treatment on me, in fact, he said "if you're feeling better, you don't need to come back". That is such a nice departure from other chiropractors I've visited who always wanted to sign me up for lengthy repeated treatments. His staff is very kind and friendly. I will not hesitate to return and I would certainly recommend him to my family and friends. Ive never written a yelp review before, but I wanted to write this because I was so satisfied. read more

Dr. Hixson is a very nice gentleman as most reviewers will attest to. He does treat you very gently when adjusting you. I went to see him because I had woken one morning with pain in my neck. I must of slept wrong. I suffered with it for a few days and couldn't take it any longer. My previous chiropractor had moved out of the area. I was very pleased to be able to get into Dr. Hixson office in a short period. He WAS able to relieve my immediate pain, but unfortunately I still have a kink in my neck on that same side that wasn't there previous to that morning I woke with pain in my neck. I went at least 4 times for that same side and still it is bothersome. Very nice office staff, but I had asked since day one to receive a Super bill since they do not bill insurance. It took me months to finally get one after repeatedly calling. I am sure he is a good chiropractor, he just wasn't able to fix my issue completely. read more

I'm quiet impressed with the doctor's bedside manner and techniques. I received immediate relief from his adjustment. His evaluation, techniques and communication were thorough, efficient, and effective. I've been to many chiropractors over the years, and I know when I've struck gold. He's it. So far so good. I saw Dr. Hixson two days ago with some nasty back pain, felt somewhat better when I left then when I went in, and I still feel better, two days later. All my past experience with chiropractors involved coming back several times, usually for a few weeks, but this time he said "I think we got it" right after the first visit, and I'm beginning to think he was right. read more

Well I have always heard horror stories about chiropractors for years. But I was in excruciating pain in my lower back that would nearly drop me to my knees. My father has used Dr. Hixon for years and he made me an appointment. To my surprise they got me in within 2 hours. Dr. Hixon explained exactly what he was going to do. I felt totally comfortable with his knowledge and treatment. I came out feeling amazing it really works. It's no joke. I am a customer for life. read more

I love Dr Hixson and his staff. I have had a chronic back problem for the last 30 years, that has been treated by many different chiropractors. Because of that, I might be somewhat of an expert. Dr Hixson has been my absolute favorite for many years now. I don't know about you, but when I am in pain, I want to be heard, understood and helped as soon as possible. The "team" at Dr Hixson's office have mastered this skill. Dr Hixson's gentle and calm nature, puts you at ease instantly. His adjustments are thorough and have helped me to be pain free often within one visit. I found it very helpful to combine adjustment with a massage, also offered at their office. Thank you Dr Hixson, Sandy and Kim. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Dave Hixson since 1992. I was injured badly from having a 24 ft. Pipe corral panel fall on me.( the thick, heavy steel panels). I could barely walk. Went to Dr. Dave and he worked his magic in 2 months. I have also appreciated the fact that he didn't keep me coming back for more treatments than I needed. He still treats me and my husband. I was blessed enough to become an employee at Hixson Chiropractic as a Massage Therapist in 2004. I have been there since. If you want a Chiropractor who cares and will treat your individual needs with care and genuine concern, then please give Dr. Dave a try. You won't be sorry . D Patton-Hernandez read more

I have been seeing Dr. Hixson for 34 years. He has kept me going so many times when I was in so much pain. He is the best chiropractor I have ever been to. I get immediate relief and walk out of the office feeling good again. I seldom have to go back for another adjustment. In addition, he is so kind and caring. I highly recommend him. read more

I flew in from Phoenix just to see Dr. Hixson and as an elite level athlete and coach, I'm used to pushing my body beyond the limit. When I had a neck issue, a friend recommended him and low and behold he found my hips out of alignment, my mid-back, upper-back, and cervical area. I feel like he's Mr. Miyagi from the Karate Kid as he snapped and aligned 80% back on the first visit, and adjusted the rest 2 days later. Highly intelligent, compassionate, and very caring. I will be recommending all my athlete friends to make the trip to Atascadero and be treated by what i consider one of the world's best. read more

Dr. Dave is a really great chiropractor. I have been seeing him since I was a child and can find a spine that is out of alignment, like a moth to a flame. My husband was skeptical about chiropractors as the (always make you come back) but not Dr. Dave. When the spine moves back in easily there is no need to come back until it is out or painful again. My husbands brother thought chiropractors are the equivalent to voo doo doctors but his sciatica got so bad he had to do something, so he went to Dr. Dave and was very impressed with the relief he gave him, but also that he didn't schedule a follow up unless my bro-in-law wanted to come back.. He has gone back but only when he felt it was necessary. read more

Dr Hixson and his staff are amazing. My story is as follows...I had recently relocated here with my family when I threw my back out. It was aggravated by the move and it laid me up for a few weeks. This was a big deal made more problematic because I have two young children and could barely function. I was slowly able to move around more but the pain never fully left. That incident began a year long struggle for me and my family. I went through a big bottle of Ibuprofen in 6 months and it didn't even help that much. During that year I saw several different medical care professionals who were all good intentioned people but had no answers. At one point a physical therapist said I had a bulging disk in my low back which was very alarming to me. After several months of off and on pain it got steadily worse. In November of 2015 it got so bad I lay on the floor for 2 days and my husband had to help me "birth breath" to get through the spasms in my back which had begun to spread around to my right hip and thigh. I was already doing over the counter pain meds as well as using a TENS unit, arnica gel, and ice packs. Nothing was helping and I was getting pretty freaked out. To sum it up, after seeing a regular MD and two more PTs I ended up on Hydrocodone, Tramadol, muscle relaxants and had an MRI with dye injected into my hip, thinking it might be a labral hip tear. That was a intense few weeks of waiting and strangely HOPING for that to be the issue! At least we'd know what was causing all this pain. Results came back and there was NOTHING wrong with my hip...or back. Everyone was at a loss. I asked myself if it was possible it was all in my head?!? I have had 2 children at home with no pain meds so I had thought up until now that I was pretty capable of dealing with pain but this shook me. I couldn't imagine a life with this amount of discomfort...especially with no explanation. My regular MD was only able to extend my pain med prescription, that was his good intentioned solution. My husband suggested that we try to find a chiropractor in the area. I felt a little foolish for not thinking of that sooner but deep down thought it can't be that simple, but what the heck, let's give it a try. Having no connections in the area yet, I looked on Yelp for someone who seemed to fit my needs. I called Dr Hixson, spoke to Sandy and she got me in the next day. I had to be driven to the office because I was on so many meds i was loopy and was unable to sit for longer than 5 min at a time because of the discomfort in my hip. Dr Hixson patiently listened to my story. He had a gentle but very confidant bedside manner. He did the initial exam and right away said he believed he saw the problem. I was relieved with that acknowledgment but had been through so much that I was still not too hopeful. Dr Hixson changed the course of my entire previous year with that adjustment. The whole time the issue was that my hips were out of alignment. I JUST NEEDED AN ADJUSTMENT, PEOPLE!!! Immediately following that first adjustment I was able to sit without that deep horrible pain. Don't misunderstand me, I had recovery time, I still had pain, but over the next 2 days the pain shrunk and I was completely off the Hydrocodone, muscle relaxants and Tramadol. He had me ice for 2 hours after that first visit because I had been out of alignment for so long I was going to be sore from getting back into place. Any discomfort from the adjustment paled in comparison to the pain I had been in for so long. Dr Hixson has never been pushy about seeing me over and over again, instead he says to call when I need him. His prices are insanely reasonable, Sandy and Kim are awesome, friendly and sweet with my kids, and best of all, I am functional! It has still taken work, I am on a new workout routine to strengthen my back/hips so i don't need to go in more than necessary (at Dr Hixsons suggestion). I can tell when my hips are out now and I always get in the same day or the next day at the latest for a quick adjustment. I always leave feeling so much better. I haven't needed hard core pain meds in a year, hopefully never again! I highly recommend Dr Hixson and his awesome office gals. They are professional, accommodating, and actually care about getting you better. They changed my life, I am forever grateful! read more
