I guess my purpose of never going in was that we came in on the other side of the mountain (Off of McClure Pass), and never really ventured into the "Hubbard Park" area. We always had our big wall tents, wood burning stoves, and food for the week. So I guess we never really needed to venture that way. Let me tell you we were MISSING OUT on something amazing. I ended up venturing over into that area due to the dry season, high temperatures, and the sparse amount of elk in the area that I am usually in. I got a tip from someone about a place in Hubbard Park so decided to go check it out! First the spot was amazing, and was what I hunted for the rest of the season. However, after my first night scouting the area I decided to stop in for a beer and a meal at electric lodge. First, The staff is amazing! From the back kitchen staff, the bartenders, the waitress's, the bar backs, etc! You all rock! Super friendly, great to talk too, funny to be around (I love sarcasm and they could all read that). The place was clean, warm, and rustic truly made my hunting trip feel even more amazing. The food was great (Only criticism is a little pricey, but hey supply and demand so no complaints). The beer was cold and in a clean glass so no complaints there (Also reasonably priced). The next night I ended up bringing my whole hunting crew over for dinner and some beers after our evening hunt. They all enjoyed it and we had probably some of the best brisket and smoked sausages I have had in a long long time. We all talked about looking in one year of just staying at the lodge instead of setting up our camp. It wont be an every year stay, but worth looking into every few years. However, even if we set up our own camp you can sure as heck no that we will be stopping in for at least one night each year. Great work Electric Lodge! Great work Electric Lodge Staff! This is my new hidden gem that I can't wait to tell people about!

My husband booked this stay as an anniversary get-away. We knew it was going to be rustic. We didn't prepare ourselves for it being unsafe. We stayed in cabin 15. I cannot speak of the cleanliness or safety of the other cabins. Please, before booking cabin 15 at Mesa Lodge, be aware that the steps are unsafe. As noted in the pictures, they should be replaced immediately. I spoke to the co-owner and she said, "They have been that way for years." When the rain started, my husband did not want me using the stairs. He was fearful of me falling. Well, he FELL twice. We went to the main lodge to be moved but they were closed. At this point, we returned the key and headed to Grand Junction. The following morning my husband called to request our money be refunded. The co-owner did call us back and said she would discuss it with her husband. We have heard nothing. Positives of Mesa Lake Lodge: The area is phenomenal. The drive is break taking. The beauty and tranquility of the trees and water make it a gem of a location. We ate in the lodge. The meal was very good. We both loved the French fries. The hostess was nice. They did offer a military discount. As of July 2024: The Mesa Lakes Lodge has been in contact with my husband. They issued a refund. Thank you so much! We appreciate it.

Not since we were in high school...and that was with different dates. lol We were celebrating my birthday weekend and saw that Delta had this theater. We were giddy! They were showing Empire Strikes Back...which happens to be my husband's favorite Star Wars movie (yes, I was a good wife and gave in...but it was no sacrifice, believe me. I love the movie, too!) The very coolest thing was that, now and then during the evening, he and I would see shooting stars in the sky...plus, the very starry night of that dry area made the screen feel like it had no edge when the "outer space" scenes were happening. It was rather surreal, but a total blast! We felt like teenagers! The only problem with us particularly was, the speaker they provided cut in and out a lot during the movie. Yes, you have a radio station that you can tune into to get the audio, but our newer keyless, push-button-started car would power down after a bit to save the battery. So we tried to rely just on the drive-in speaker (which was also cool, cuz it added to the experience.) When the hubs ran back to the snack bar to let them know about the speaker, they gave us a little portable am/fm radio to use...and it was perfect!! (Gotta give them a valid I.D. in order for them to let you use the radio.) Overall, it was a BLAST!! And it was well attended as well...probably about 50 cars. Our movie started at 7:45 pm, but the gates opened at 7. When we got there, we were third in line and cars started lining up behind us quite soon thereafter. So if you want your pick of spots, get there a little bit before the gate opens. And be nice to the ticket seller lady...she kinda acts like she's been working there these many decades the theater has been open. :-)

We didn't particularly like the hamburgers or the pizza. I wish they would fix the speakers because we couldn't get the app to work and I couldn't get the radio station to come in on my phone. And what a booming town this little hamlet used to be. And that is why you should tour Redstone Castle. You need to buy your tour ticket in town. Give yourself another 10 minutes to drive up to the castle, park, and get over to the castle. But it isn't really a castle. No moat. No drawbridge. No turrets or towers. It's just a big house. And considering I live in Boston Metrowest - I have friends who live in larger, more ornate, tackier houses. Most of the first floor of the house has been kept in "original" condition. But since the castle has been operated as a bed and breakfast or inn by previous owners, all of the bedrooms have been updated. No telling if there is any resemblance to the original. Also, most of the furniture is NOT the original stuff, so again not sure if any of the stuff is even period pieces. It is still cool to walk around. And imagine living there 100 years ago. It's really about the coal, not the castle.
